I don't really agree about the whole villain thing. *SPOILER WARNING ⚠️ * The Wolverine X-24 that looked like Past Wolverine at first felt like a stupid excuse for a villain. However, I quickly enjoyed the villain much more when I realized that the whole movie Logan was torn apart by his past and his demons. Because of the things he did he even considered suicide. So his main villain in his head was himself and he was actually physically fighting himself. I liked the symbolism of Logan fighting his demons and that his enemy in his head was his actual physical enemy.

Good thinking. I also saw it as "the only one who could kill Wolverine is Wolverine". Am I the only one who when he saw him in the shadows thought that this was Victor Creed for a second?

I love how everyone goes lyk "......is the best comic book movie since or better than The Dark Knight" That alone kinda makes the Dark Knight superior, coz it set the bar high enough that everything that follows will ALWAYS be compared to it
@matthewjess5488
@matthewjess5488 8 жыл бұрын
Michael Otis Not really. I compare it to the dark knight because it came out at a time when the MCU was only beginning, and the X men and Fantastic Four franchises were at their lowest ( Fantastic 4 rise of silver surfer and X men the last stand). Yes, it is a good movie, but Logan is better.

Matthew Jess The cinematic universe has overstayed its welcome, especially after phase 2. These films cannot be what and all it needs to be coz it's in service to something outside of the film - it has to make room for upcoming films usually at a cost of being a complete film itself. It is forced to fit in a certain tone and pallete and us such limits creativity and artistic integrity. This is why the films by Shaymalan (Unbreakable), Singer, Raimi and Nolan will automatically be superior as FILMS! Coz they focus on being GOOD FILMS with these characters in them, and aren't restricted by a shared universe to be a certain way. There are genuine arcs, surprises and a feeling of finality with their films - with a tiny hint of sequel setup way at the end (Joker card tease at the end of Batman Begins for example). So no I dont think the MCU is the savior people make it out to be.. With that said, the Logan film brings back that sense of completion where it feels like its own independent film - not desperately trying to setup more setups but by being self-contained. But The Dark Knight films are superior as FILMS - on a TECHNICAL AND STORYTELLING LEVEL they are near flawless. The sheer ambition alone in directing, acting, score, practicality, cinematography, themes, etc in that trilogy are on a higher level...Logan's just great for what it is. You can prefer it to Dark Knight subjectively, but objectively (yes film can be viewed objectively), not even close.

I saw this movie with my family last night and me and my sister were both in tears by the end, I was almost as sad as she was. We both have been watching and loving this series since we were children all the way back in 2000. I have never been more sad watching a comic book film and it was more intense and emotional than anything that has come out of the DCEU or the MCU, hell any dc or marvel film for that matter.This is truly the end of the original x-men series and as me and my sister both sat there and the credits rolled and the Johnny cash music started that realization hit us both and it was amazing that we got to experience this journey.I love this series and it ended on a phenomenal note.

(SPOILER ALERT) I'm assuming you're referencing the Wolverine clone when you're saying you wanted something else? I disagree with you completely. If "A" was perfect, there never could be a movie with an A since there are no perfect movies and there never will be. So I disagree, it's fine to use the a for non-perfect movies, it's better than an awkward B-E rating (no "F" either seeing that no movie could be completely without any merit at all either).

Quick question: 'Logan' is supposedly set years after the happy ending showed in 'Days of Future Past'. However, by Wolverine and Professor X referencing the Statue of Liberty incident (X-1) and Wolverine having the Japanese sword from 'The Wolverine', does that mean events from the original trilogy did happen?? Thoughts??

Carlos Pena in Days I think beast has a small line comparing time to a river, and how it eventually reaches a similar result. instead of sentinels killing mutants, professor x accidently does, and therefore some of those events still occur, but slightly different, such as keeping his claws in the wolverine
@cinematastic1814
@cinematastic1814 6 жыл бұрын
Carlos Pena ok the simplest way to explain this is Bryan Singer didn’t like what happened in X-men 3 like a good majority of fans soo in days of future psst he erased X-men 3 basicly. So he essentially took X-3 out of canon and made some prequel stuff (First Class),(Apocalypse) soo everything happened in X-2 and the first is my understanding the reason Logan appears in the prequel stuff is for cash and u Mays ay in apocalypse he meets Jean and cyclops they won’t remember,beer Logan at that point till the day they die and Singer never gave a full story just flash backs so all that happened just in Apocalypse shows him escaping that’s the simplest way I can explain but basicly anything Singer did happened

The thing about the yellow suit is, for me, I want to see it to, but the movie explains it really well and the premise is really self-explanatory. It's a darker world. The X-Men stories are in the past. Logan wants to forget that part of his life. He even changed his name back to his original one; James Howlett. heck, he even changed his hair and his beard. That's why he's so triggered when he gets called ''Wolverine''. I would've love to see the yellow suit but I can understand. It makes the movie better.

One thing I'll say about the final battle and villian in general, is that It gave a feeling of lost hope because you knew how relentless and brutal it was because it was who it was and if they had used a well known villian , the well known villian would've gave a long monologue that gives room for opportunity, which takes some level of threat away

It would have been perfect if the mutant little kids had a wolverine type suit in their shelter hanging on a wall. But all worn and battle damaged. and Logan sees it. And he asks "where they got that suit" and the kids say to him. "You used to wear that suit to save the world. You were the wolverine" and Logan says "im not that guy anymore" then they say "but you're an xman, we need an x man again" and then it would have been perfect if he put on the suit just for x23 to show that he can be a hero for her one last time. And then x23 looks at the comic book and then looks at Logan and he has the suit on. That would have been amazing. It would have been so emotional if he put on he suit just for her.

Logan verged into the territory of greatness. True, legit, cinematic greatness. It's up there, right next to Nolan's Batman trilogy. I knew it'd be really good going into it. But I'd almost say it was triumphant. If Jackman got a nod for best actor, via the globes, or oscars, i wouldn't be mad.

Its quite funny to see a lot of the fans split up about the yellow spandex. I personally think the yellow suit would've worked with the xmen team as a whole back in the first few movies. This film is just way too dark for an old Wolverine to be prancing around in spandex and I wouldn't have been able to take Wolverine so seriously as I did in Logan. Spandex or not, I honestly thought this was Hughs best work as the character and a FANTASTIC send off 10/10.

Logan was so good. The action, the story, the gore, everything was spot on. I think it's a little better than the Dark Knight.

One of the best movies I've seen in a long time, up there with the Dark Knight. The heart, sombre tone, tension, western feel, vulnerability, grittiness, loyalty to source material, cinematography, actor performances (best Wolvie depiction) and unadulterated action and emotion in this movie is off the charts. Major recognition to James Mangold, beautifully directed film. Reminded me of The Last of Us.

I truly believe the only way we can get Hugh Jackman in a Wolverine suit is IF Hugh Jackman agrees to be in the Deadpool franchise. (at least as a supporting character or as a cameo) It is so over the top, and it can be used as a comedic effect if taken "seriously".

When I was watching it I was hoping that X24 would have worn the yellow-brown (yellow-blue or perhaps the grey x-force) spandex armour and then pulled his mask off to reveal it was a clone of him. I feel that would have been much better, especially given how Laura looks to Wolverine based on the comics that she had. Also, I was shocked that they ended it the way they did, I was thinking they would have added a post-credits scene showing X24 healing from the Adamantium bullet but forgetting everything, sort of leaving it open for a Jackman return in the future as a one-off. Also, I can't lie, I was hoping for Daken, even if it was just a mid-credits scene.

Personally I think this was the best comic book movie made so far and actually edged it over the Christopher Nolan batman series. This to me was a stand alone movie and has no relation to any of the others what so ever which is why I loved it. I did not expect it to be this good.

for an X-Men movie I would love to see wolverine in some version of his iconic costume. However, for this movie it would seem out of place and I am more than happy with his look as it is in the movie. I think wolverine in his classic costume for Deadpool 2 would be more fitting and awesome to see

How is it that Wolverine still has adamantium claws? Shouldn't they be bone claws after they were cut off by Silver Samurai? Does this movie address this?

Eric Bergstrom Look bud. Xmen Origins, Xmen, X2, X3 and The Wolverine don't exist anymore after the events of DOFP. Basically anything originally that happens initially from 1973 to 2023 never happened.

Besides the time change, I can assume that Magneto stretched the Adamantium still on his bones over his claws before DOFP to prepare?

Beorn Wulmoth Ummm yes sorta, because these timelines are happening side by side so certain events happened. For instance in the film, you can see what Wolverine collected through out the ages, like an Adamantium bullet, dog tags and the katana sword he was given at Nagasaki.

My favorite rated R movie is now..... LOGAN. Great acting, action, makeup, and visual effects. Really hope Hugh Jackman gets nominated for this. He tends to get the nods whenever he rescues a little girl. 'LES MISERABLES" anyone?

8:09 yes this is me exactly, Logan was amazing, I don't know why but for some reason, the most shocking or dark moments in movies are sometimes my favorite. SPOILER BELOW I thought the part where X-24 first appears was riveting. My jaw pretty much hit the floor, but it was awesome to see there was a badass villain coming along. And as he was killing everyone, the mad scientist described him as 'pure rage' or something like that, and that's just badass and terrifying at the same time. To me, it felt like a horror movie for a sec inside of a gritty, realistic, drama / action movie about one of my favorite characters.

Absolutely amazing movie, honestly though I really wanted to see more gory. Despite the opening fight, It really wasn't that brutal. I just feel like the final battle could have been way more brutal. Not taking away from the film in any way I just wanted to see wolverine chop atleast one person in half. More limbs, somethin.

I agree there John - room for improvement. I put this equal with Origins and feel that it would have been nice to see Sabertooth and Lady Death Strike revist their roles in this film. I'd say B - I gave it a "Shaka Thumbs Up," but feel its matinee at best and got none of this "Oscar" buzz feeling. My fav super hero movie would have to be Spider-Man 2 (Doc Ock was great) with Winter Soldier a close 2nd! :D

(3:36) "More often than not, comic books movies are overproduced, they're overbudgeted, they're overscripted, they're just a big, bloated CGI-mess of just random explosions and shit just happening for the sake of happening." I couldn't summarize 'Captain America: Civil War' better.

Even as someone who is not an X-Men fan - or even a superhero fan (apart from Batman), I found myself really drawn in by Logan. What I particularly enjoyed was how it felt like the complete opposite of a regular superhero movie and more of a western. Some might argue that Deadpool did this, and whilst it did try, it ultimately followed same formula of the films it was trying to mock. This didn't. Whilst this film is of course centred around the mutants, the story does feel a lot more grounded and human and thus, for me anyway, emotionally engaging. There were some nice moments of poignancy and some really fantastic action, but also some great moments of levity. It's direction and choreography was fantastic and it didn't hold back with the violence and language, taking full advantage of its 15 rating. A film like this could not be told as a 12A picture so I am glad Hugh Jackman and the production team were able to realise the film's full potential. Fortunately it did not feel gratuitous in any way, which I had been worried about. Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart both give fantastic final performances as Logan and Charles, respectively, and Dafnee Keen is outstanding as Laura. She has a great career ahead of her! Was also a nice surprise to see Richard E. Grant take such a prominent role. I do have some reservations. I felt that X24 was out of place in this story and wasn't needed, and also with a run time at 2hrs 21 minutes, it did feel very long. But that's more of a personal gripe, as it did feel like the right amount of time to tell this story. Despite those two grievances, I found the film to be thoroughly enjoyable, and probably my favourite instalment in the X-Men franchise.
