ALSO YES WE HAVE A LONG TONE SHIRT! IT'S AWESOME! Consider buying on maybe? BTW I loved making this video! What are some of the things you do in practice that almost always makes you feel GOOD when you finish practicing?

The Flute Channel do you recommend a Armstrong flute?
@consideratecommentator42845 жыл бұрын
@@gun4827 I may not be the Flute Channel, but I would not recommend Armstrong. The Armstrong band may be cheaper, Yamaha and Pearl are superior since they last longer and can be played by intermediate and advanced flutists. However, I will let you decide, here's a link to a review page: www.8notes.com/f/25_32700.asp

Doing long tones isn't very exciting but I'm going to trust you that practicing them will improve my tone.

they totally will! even 5 minutes a day of that in your practice routine will help loads!

1: It's a great warm-up; 2: it's something that you can do on those days when you don't feel like practicing or don't have much time; 3: it's very relaxing, meditative as Amélie mentioned. Oh yeah and it's good for your sound :)

I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos. However, the more I watch, the more it makes me regret having sold my flute so many years ago. One day, if I can get caught up on bills, I can purchase another one. You are a great teacher.

Air speed, posture, legato, dynamics, vary in vibrato, use a metronome and try to play with your eyes closed (A.K.A without sheet music). Got it!

Yes Amy! I do use it. We're actually preparing a huge video about these products and some new experimental ones too that were very excited about but that won't come for a few more weeks.

Back when I was in school we would see who could hold the longest note while having good tone and staying in tune. The longest I could hold a note was about 28 seconds on the flute, but I was beat by a trumpet player that could do it for 48 seconds.
@flutechannel5 жыл бұрын
Thats still really good. Trumpets have a bit more resistance so I see how they could hold longer. I remember we did that once in a rehershal and I know how to circular breathe and this was late into high school and people thought something was wrong. 3 minutes went by and I stopped and we all laughed.

Hi Amelie! I have been playing flute for a little less than 2 school years now. Is there a certain type of flute that you would recommend for me? I would also say I love your videos and they are really helpful! I'm going to recommend my Alto Sax friend who is trying to pick up the flute to your channel :)

Your flute tone is amazing, so beautiful and sweet. I know you have 1 video on tone, but do you have any other advice on obtaining beautiful tone?? Also, my tone is clearer on my high notes than my middle register. Is that normal, or am I doing something wrong?
@flutechannel5 жыл бұрын
It's sorta normal. The mid register for most is something to work on so don't worry. Working on some exercises slowly in the mid register can really bring awareness and keep this in tune. Have a tuner so you can know how much energy you need for each note. We plan on making more videos about tone. Stay tuned.

So I have a question. Usually I just watch your video and absorb the information like a sponge. I have been doing this exercise in school for about two months in school and my time has improved amazingly. I started playing the sax a couple months ago and now, when I play flute, my tone is naturally better. Why is that?
@flutechannel5 жыл бұрын
Sometimes applying skills learned in other wind instrument do help each other. Perhaps your learning to support better and that transferred over.

Hey. I'm a cellist but I also want to play the flute so I got intrested in your channel. I was wondering as a begginer can you play a intermidat or professional flute, also as a beginner what flutes would you recommend? -Thanks, Sincerely a stranger online.
@flutechannel5 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah! Sure why not! Flutes now from many companies are really done well at all levels. Yamaha, Sankyo, Trevor James to name a few. I would have you look at our playlist of flute review where I talk a bit more indepth about how to look for a flute. You have to try a few at a time at a shop or with a trial program like The Flute Center of New York. Also be sure to budget accordingly before going into it. See how much you can afford. If you have more questions just let me know. heres that playlist btw : kzbin.info/aero/PLM_znTF7I0H-AC3UINb1mNQ6LlP72wy3f

I lost my low notes! Recently I was doing the downward sequence and found that I couldn't play anything lower than a Eb! I don't know if it's the dry winter weather that dries out the pads (I'm in Canada and we frequently use a wood burning stove because it's nice heat). Or maybe I bumped a key and it won't seal? Or I'm losing my embouchure for low notes. Any suggestions? Thanks. (By the way I was at your intensive workshop last summer and it gave me lots to work on, so thanks again).
@flutechannel5 жыл бұрын
Yes hi again Louis! I would advise maybe getting it checked at a shop to see what could be wrong. But smoke particles could be making micro leaks, but I'm not sure. Just be sure to clean the inside of the tube after each time you play to limit the amount stays inside your flute. It could be your foot joint which is an easy fix for a technician. Can you play low D?
@LouisBertrandTech5 жыл бұрын
@@flutechannelSmoke particles?! That small? OK, I'll get it checked out. Can't do low D, C#, C or B (it's a B foot). When I try B it sounds like when you drive a car with the window just barely cracked open. Thanks!
@flutechannel5 жыл бұрын
Ya sounds exactly like the last key on the body (the d key) could be leaking and causing the foot joint to not come out at all. I would have them look at the last 2 keys of the flute body ( E and D ) maybe to quickly isolate the problem. but most technicians will see it right away. Who's around in your area? I forget where in Ontario are you again? @@LouisBertrandTech

How do you play high notes but quieter? I'm fine on the high notes but I don't want it to be like a screeching noise. How do you play high notes softly??????
@MimoriAzume5 жыл бұрын
I think it's really about having a tight lip formation so that you can breathe softly, but precisely. High notes aren't about breathing more air into the hole, so just practice having a firm embouchure and not blowing so hard to achieve the high note, but be a bit quieter. Hope that helped a little! 🙂
