Do you suffer from cracking notes from time to time? If so in what register does it happen most? Let me know down below!

Mine happens in the upper registers. Especially on the E...

Ugh! Yes! My middle F gets fuzzy and tries to drop into the low F...or the sound splits when I hold it out for long notes ,even with good support - it only rarely happens with any other notes, usually E .

I don’t really have problems with cracking notes but I still think it’s always helpful to watch your videos 🙂

This came just at the right time. I'd been working on a piece and my notes kept cracking. Performed it today with no problem! Thanks for all the good reminders, Amélie!

Hi Amélie, I wanted to thank you. I'm joining marching band after almost two years of not playing the flute, and I've been really worried since I'll be behind all of my peers. I've been watching your videos to brush up and prepare, and they've been such a big help. I've learned many new things as well. I'm still pretty mediocre, but I hope I will continue to improve! I look up to you very much, and I'm happy to be a regular viewer of yours now. Thank you so much, wishing you the best!

Regarding not moving the lips too much when tonguing, what I found helpful was to imagine an action half way between 't' and 'd'. Maybe it's an English accent thing, but when I say 't' I push my tongue forward and pull my lips back. When I say 'd' I put my tongue more to the roof of my mouth and push my lips forward. So if I do something half way between 't' and 'd' I can hold my lips and tongue in a comfortable, stable position

Great lesson! The mask concept makes so much sense. Also, tongue release concept is a similar concept on clarinet. Also, your editor is hilarious for all the clips at the end.

How to you stop an e2 while sustaining and crack down to an e1. Often while holding the note for 4 or more beats I lose it to the low register. I am not sure if it’s me or my flute. I have very good tone so this is very frustrating to me.

I was looking into switching into a better flute for concert since my current flute will most likely take damage while marching season is approaching. I would like some input on what brands have decent open holed intermediate flutes. I've heard of azumi, Yamaha, geimendart, Jupiter, and more. Just wanted to know what to try out at the store. Thanks

Hi.. I’ve just started the flute and I can do the “B” note, but when I do “A” and “G” note it often doesn’t produce a sound or is VERY airy and unlike the note. I think I may be blowing into it wrong or using the wrong breathing techniques and I’ve looked through countless videos and still cannot fox my problem.. Do you have any tips?
@mathewtwinney28123 жыл бұрын
Hi, I started to learn beginning of this year. I had no problem switching between B, A and G. Over the last few weeks the G seems so have gotten worse and my notes were becoming more and more out of tune. I took everything back to the basics to find out why and discovered that it was my embouchure. Problem is when you start to increase the notes you play who need to learn to subtly change your embouchure ie playing a low G to a mid G. If I were you I start with embouchure exercises while looking in a mirror so see what shape it is. Use just the mouthpiece as you can focus just on getting a clean sound. Also I have been working on harmonics exercises to help resolve the problem, as these make you amend your embouchure to reach the notes whilst not having to change buttons. I bought a book written by Trevor Wye that have all the exercises to help improve. Doing research it appears that most students sound gets worse once they start to learn notes in the higher range because the embouchure is slightly different than for the lower notes. I’m no expert by any means, just a novice but your problem sounds reminiscent of what I’ve been through.

I've found myself cracking surprisingly often when casually playing, more often in a large ensemble. It's consistently the c or e of the 6th register. Anytime when holding the note, i just find it cracking. I've been trying for a few weeks to fix this, but every time I think i find a fix, it ends up not working the next time I try it.

I feel like complicated and fast fingerings cause me to crack too. And as I play longer and longer, continuously, my embouchure gets really tired and it starts to crack.. Also as I keep playing, it's gross but I can't swollow the saliva and it distracts me

I wonder what you think of Emmanuel Pahud's way of breathing when I see you playing at 2:20. He opens his mouth extremely wide.
