I think you actually sounded the best on the Yamaha and you seemed to have the most ease when playing it.

You did a great job explaining what you were hearing/experiencing with the flutes. I would have loved to hear you on the Miazawa just for reference. Personally? I disliked the Muramatsu EX when I tried it. The SD model is far more impressive tonally and I really liked the key speed. But ultimately (and price was the decisive factor for me) I went with an Armstrong 800 in the end--it's attack and tone could not be beaten particularly in its price range. It's obnoxiously heavy though. My Yami 587 (which I I love for the same reasons you liked the Yami you tried, it's just easy to play) can be a bit like blowing a tuba in its 3rd and 4th octaves. But, I have to hand it to the Yamahas--they hold their tuning better than any other flute I've ever owned or tried.

You sounds richer on mura than y. Miya is thin in higher register. I think too easy to blow may not be always good thing. Of course it my opinion.

Interesting that I have a GX and actually prefer to have that Miyazawa top register sound which you dislike. I think of it as having more complexity and pleasant for the player but probably a bit less volume.
