For folks not comfortable sewing without a pattern- I recommend any of Gertie's books that come with patterns and plenty of notes about adjusting and changing style lines. This is a great starter education on using basic patterns and making them into what you want.

Sew Different patterns has released The Gambit Collection with four patterns inspired by the series. The Sicilian is a dead ringer for the first blouse with the centre seam and dolman sleeves. The Harmon Tee is the colour block top she wore in cream and green. The Gambit and the Moscow dresses are spot on too.

I will hold my hand up and say not seen the programmes as I don't watch anything much -except youtube videos and odd series on the river so not worth me paying out for anything else ( used to watch but got out of the habit) but still loved to see the patterns you found, so don't think it applies only to those that watch the series or any series - all patterns, modern or vintage are always worth sharing as so many out there, there are not enough hours in the day to look at them all to find a treasure to make.

Thoroughly enjoyed that Kate. What a wonderful era of clothes eh? For the coat you are stumped on, I think just any pattern that has a neckline like it, and add the "floating collar". If we all looked into our stash of patterns, I'm sure one would do x love from New Zealand x

many of us are probably adding a goal/resolution in the coming year to "use up our stash" - I would love to see a video highlighting patterns that use less than 1 yard/meter, 1.5yard/meter, and 2 yards/meters. Perhaps others would, as well. Great vids!

The Lola dress by Victory Patterns has princess seams that meet at raglan sleeves. It's styled with ribbing at the neck and cuffs, but I imagine it would be easy enough to switch out to a more formal banding. I was already thinking about making this pattern in a ponte instead of sweatshirting.

Loved the first look. It looked to me more like a dolman sleeve rather than a conventional one, and the fabric cut on the diagonal and buttoned on a front seam. Plus the sleeves had a bit more volume. Would Butterick B5529 View C or D serve as a jumping off point? The neckline, cuff and hem would need tweaking but the volumes look pretty close. Or Stylearc Piper, with widened sleeves. Or Stylearc Wilma, even better. How sporting you are to hunt down these ideas for us! Hope you find some brightness in the gloom of this December, too.

Actually, the Assembly Line skirt pattern photo at 11:50 shows a blouse by Assembly Line also, a puff sleeved dolman with French darts, best yet!

This is an interesting overview of the fashions from the show. At 8:04, I think a pyjama top would be closer than the Gilbert top - I can only see the tie waist version on her site. At 9:34, I agree that the Vogue would be a good jumping off point. I actually have this pattern, but haven't had the nerve to try and sew it.

@azaleasewing83733 жыл бұрын
I think the last coat that you could find a pattern for could be done with Vogue 9136. It has a wider button collar but if you shorten it to just one button width it would work. At least the collar has an upper portion that is separate from the lower lapel (no idea the technical words for these things... I tried)

Hi Kate. I love your channel even though I’ve never left a comment before. I have a suggestion for the tab dress that is close. It’s a pattern that I’ve made before from lekala.co. Lekala has a LOT of 60s styles, some that I believe would be a good fit for the styles you showed. The pattern I made is #4869. I love how it turned out. There’s a post on my IG account (lettercrazy) if you’d like to see how it turned out. I love the added white top stitching which seems so appropriate for the 60s style. I have another suggestion to matching patterns to TV styles although it’s some of the same style. It’s The Modern Ms Fisher’s Murder Mysteries. Although Friney Fisher’s styles in the original version were also awesome, I think the fashion in the ‘modern’ version would appeal to today’s’ sewist. Thanks for a great channel!
