Great video, liked the birds perching on the flowers. A Freind & I rescue songbirds that hit the glass skyscrapers in Newark NJ during migration, TRT made a video named 'Window Strikes in the Business District' of us picking up injured Warblers. In Newark most songbirds that hit the glass skyscrapers perish on impact, or when fall to the cement pavement. TRT vid minute 4:01 shows a paralyzed Flicker crying, that Flicker made full recovery as TRT nursing them back to health. Interesting tip of spacing the feeders out, not on top of each other.

I've been so frustrated recently with bird feeding, after over 20 years, took down all my feeders. In the beginning, it was the squirrels. After I kicked that, it was the mourning doves, (up high, not ground feeding), then recently it was the consant bickering and bullying from the brown birds to each-other, but finally it's the grackles, and black birds that have made me throw in the towel. I had built a 7' bird feeding station, with a compass/ cross shape on a 4" PVC pole, that looked really cool, about 5-10 yrs ago. (Got the idea from a gentlemen on YT). Hung 4 different style feeders from each leg, with a hopper feeder on the top middle. Different foods, for different birds. Black oil, Safflower, Nyjer, suet, nut and berries, ect. The big hanging caged tube feeder filled with safflower was the only one the pesky black birds didn't flock to. The finches went to it, by the hoards, and 5 lbs would deteriorate in 3 days. I did like watching the woodpeckers eat the nut and berry mix, but in time, the blue-jays (along with the black birds) found it, and it would go away in a similar period. The grackles would also hang on the up-side down suet feeder. The shelled foods, (black oil/safflower) make a huge mess on the ground, (when you put out as much as I use-ta), and anyone who can afford to buy sunflower hearts, makes me envious. The screens and catch plates under each feeder didn't rectify the problem either. I have a herringbone patterned walkway (?) red brick ring around the feeding station, with a green tarp in the middle of the bricks, on the ground, to facilitate an easy clean-up, (ha), recommended also by a YT woman. It's not pretty either, once full of shells, which become glued to the tarp. The other mess is the bird droppings...everywhere. And to conclude this rant, (sorry), the biggest issue is the price of the foods. Over $2-3 bucks a pound, and even if you buy in bulk, there is "NO" bargain. You can thank the current "anti-fossil fuel" administration for ruining the economy by driving up fuel prices to the moon. Everything else follows. The situation makes me mad, because I really "do" like seeing the birds come to feed. Just not an army, costing me not just hundreds, but probably close to a grand a year....for residential entertainment. I'm not trying to talk anyone out of their hobby, maybe hoping for a solution to mine. I had thought about a cover over the top of the station in the daytime, whilst I'm at work. I have taken the feeders in at times, over the years, but the pests still infiltrate. I'm sick and tired of "shoeing" (?) them away every 5 mins., and am at witts end. Once again, I apologize. i atracted 30+ goldfinches and i wasn't even trying. i told the lady at home depot and she was like "no way thats rare" i was like it is? i was just trying to attract birds.

How long does it take the birds to come to my feeder? Any average time? I put mine out under a week ago and still nothing 😔 although I have been seeing some eyeing the food from a safe distance but they don't dare come near. I'm sad.

No grease on the pole it is not healthy for bird feathers at all it can cause big problems

I have a group of many many sparrows in our garden here.. I was feeding them in a bird house, that a neighbor left when she had to go to the senior home. That birdhouse is half rotten, seeds have sprouted in there, I kelt cleaning it but is has seen better days. So I bought one from ebay ads (like Gregg’s list). And old man builds a few of these a year and sells them. I put it next to the old birdhouse, and those little stinker sparrows do NOT eat from there. It is make out of all natural materials, all wood and it is a bit bigger and even has a food silo in the middle. But no, they ignore it and the old one is empty every day. I can not clean that old one anymore, it will fall apart.

Consider yourself lucky. With the price of bird food now-a-days, (with democrats in office), save your money to feed your own family. I've been doing it for over 20 yrs, and it's not worth the aggavation. Took my feeders down this week-end.

Those weren't black oil sunflower seeds, they were common striped sunflower seeds. Black oil have black shells, not gray and white striped.

Please do not grease bird feeder poles to stop Squirrels. The grease gets on birds feathers. They cannot fly and cannot get the grease off. Predators will kill birds unable to fly. I don't understand why people recommend greasing (or applying Vaseline) a pole without realizing the danger to birds. Thousands of birds die in petroleum spills. Birds will perch at top of a greased shepherds pole and then take that nasty grease back to their babies in the nest. You missed probably the best bird attractant--bird bath/water fountain. The sound of running water invites them. Having a place to bathe/wash up will keep them in your yard.
