Realistically if you combine this with essentially what Elgato's Wave Link does (as he mentioned multiple audio sources...or routing to specific audio sources by application) you would have something near perfect and I would pay for that!

Wow so cool to see steel series in the comments! From a streaming and general use point of view I would love to see VST2 and/or VST3 support. Maybe with the ability to turn off the other mic functions to help reduce load on the PC. An additional line for music audio (or anything else people might want to separate). Some streamers like to play light background music but not have it playing for themselves. Also people could alter their background music without affecting their game/desktop volume which could be nice. Another thing that would be a great extra would be multiple outputs. I currently use Voicemeeter to output audio to two pairs of headphones at the same time so my friend and I can quietly watch movies at night without disturbing any neighbors with my desktop speakers.

VoiceMeeter really just needs someone to copy what it does with a more sane UI. They simply need competition. It works well, but audio routing is hard and in some ways its UI just makes it harder.

Well for me i think Voicemeeter isn't complicated at all, you can get complicated with VST inserting and stuff. And honestly it isn't even set-up right, because my slider DO affect my volume outputs in obs (even with a Hardware midi controller, which is a really neat feature)

"Before we get started, let's grab our voicemeeter, and throw it in the trash." The getting started: *VoiceMeeter input* *VoiceMeeter aux input* *VoiceMeeter aux output* It does look like a great program, but it's not a VM killer or replacement. It's an EQ software that happens to have routing, not an actual audio mixer/router as VM is. Yes, if you're running a simple enough setup to be using base VM, this may be a viable replacement. But as soon as you step to Banana let alone Potato, it's apples to oranges. There's a LOT of people I'd recommend Sonar to over VM - but that's because VM would have been a compromise choice from the get go, not because this is a direct replacement. They're different programs for different applications. Now, if a company wants to release a VoiceMeeter peer that natively accepts VST plugins? That would be a replacement I'd jump right on, even for a small cost

The main point of this video is to talk about a software that has the potential AND most importantly has the EASE of use that I have been talking about for years.. Voicemeeter is far to complicated for the average user.. it could be setup in a way that is much more simple.. and something will come of this. whether its this app or the next.. also thats just b-roll mate.. recorded prior to the recording of the video without my mic setup.. just used what i had.

This seems pretty cool. I personally think its maybe just more intuitive then better, but they’re on to something! I’ll always respect voicemeeter and the crazy routings I’ve made with it since I’m audio guy and a huge nerd, but I bought a Babyface Pro FS awhile back and it’s software TotalMix FX (which actually is even more confusing than voicemeeter) is so nice once you get it setup.

@@darkfox2401 it takes some real good elbow grease to get working, but I have achieved some pretty streamlined results with no static. Dropouts do happen on occasion, but that’s audio of network. You gotta pay attention to buffers, and try to stick to using devices using kernal streams or take advantage of ASIO. Sadly, I don’t have a direct setting to give you, but given decent hardware and some time on your hand and you can get it sounding pretty good. I still use it to throw audio from my laptop to my studio setup in another room. I also throw my studio audio back to that laptop to monitor and also send that audio to my iPhone. You can get real intricate, but trust me, I spent a entire summer in 2020 getting it together, lol! Still - it isn’t my primary system any more and totalmix that comes with the Babyface Pro is miles more relentless.

When any app add support for my inputs and outputs to run over ASIO like voicemeeter, I will consider switching. ASIO bypasses windows mixer entirely, sure. But I am fine with that. My entire workflow is based off of ASIO anyways. Also, windows has some weird latency it keeps piling on top of my IO, until I reboot the PC. If they fix that natively, anything will be a decent replacement too. And yes, it is bad, I can literally see the latency offsets, if I'm not using an ASIO based output.

I use a Korg nanoKontrol 2 midi controller to control what I hear (via the knobs) and what stream hears (via the sliders) I didn't see anything mentioned about Sonar having midi controller support; so that, along with the big cons you mentioned are HUGE deal breakers for me on this app. I appreciate that new apps in this realm are being developed, and I understand that it's only in early access - if they can bridge all the gaps then I'd gladly change as VMP has a vast assortment of quirks that can be maddening, like audio bugging out requiring a restart of the audio engine (which now makes me want to check if I can use one of the Korg's buttons to do this task).

@ZeroKami Agreed. I do the same with an AKAI MPK Mini, using the knobs to control the decibal sliders and the pads as "Streamdeck" buttons that can do anything I want the computer to do between the MIDI input itself and a MIDI to Keyboard Shortcut program. MIDI is a must, Patch Inserts to VST are a must. Concerning your want for a restart of VMP from your Korg, in case you never looked into it - The Voicemeeter manual has a command for restarting the audio engine. (Command.Restart = 1). You can assign this to a macro button and then map the macro button to a MIDI key.

App doesn't startup with windows no matter what. Even with a shortcut in windows startup folder. You don't have an option to start minimized so when you start it manually it always opens (i guess for advertisement reasons that i would pay to remove if the app was more user friendly) When you have 2 different audio outputs and you want to sync them you simply can't. When you only wanna use it to tweak your mic and set your preference output devices as you like it always sets a warning to set them to (application default settings) and if you ignore it, next time it'll automatically reset them. It's not allowing the user to tweak audio outputs in real time (sometimes work for eq) but most of the time you have to switch back and forth on different output devices to make the changes work. When you select 2 different outputs 1st one its not gonna work if youre just trying to sync both outputs (headphones & speakers) also if you got 2 working but different devices, it simply WON'T LET YOU mix volumes ...... so why its even there?? Also why its so difficult to sync 2 output devices, (without the stupid listen to this device that ads stupid amounts of delay) Its that weird that someone might use headphones and speakers and doesn't want to manually switch output devices everytime..... Anyways. Good app needs help, it has potentials if the ppl making it actually want to do something good and not sell gimmick bs

if you wanted to, you could use something like virtual audio cable and create an audio driver per application and then use windows volume manager to set which applications output to that virtual output device. then in obs you just add an audio capture source for the virtual output device and Robert is your Cousin's dad. then you just do all your mixing inside of obs and optionally in the advanced audio panel, monitor the output of that source so that it comes through your speakers/headphones.

@@Grillordy because of your reply, I will update my answer - OBS now has direct application level audio capture which means that you can use window's volume manager you can send applications to an audio device you don't hear output from (either VAC or simply an audio output you don't have anything plugged into (like a digital out or speaker out you don't use if you have one available), and capture the audio from the individual applications individually and mix them in obs. if you want to monitor them, you can choose "output and monitor" from obs settings so you can hear them as well (and the monitor is at the END of the audio chain so you hear any and all filters you've applied as well as it will appear in the video/stream output.)

An enormous advantage of Voicemetter is that you can set multiple sources, whether physical or virtual, and if you want to change your output, you just press a button and the sound comes out on another device, that's it Sona not possible because you have to manually adjust where it comes from for each source and that's annoying

Know this video is old, but if you're like me and have some sound devices that come and go as you're operating your setup GG crashes and opening a ticket with steelseries has been less than helpful. Can reproduce the error just by unplugging a tv from the graphics card and poof GG dies. So if you're a gamer who got into 4k gaming with a TV early on, just turning the TV off is enough to crash GG. Also not being able to integrate channel voice control with my mixing board like I could with voicemeeter is a complete dealbreaker now.

the custom EQ has a critical problem where some apps effect default audio and stack recording audio and then you listen to exact same footage in editing software it sounds different no one bothers to talk about it and its a common problem for small creators

I use Voicemeeter Potato for mixing and Virtual Audio Channel by Eugene Muzychenko for additional, virtual audio channels, maxing out my Voicemeeter Installation to 7 virtual inputs and 1 input for my two microphones, as well as 2 hardware outputs (for my audio interface and my display) and 6 virtual outputs for wherever I might need a sound mix. I‘m using a USB DAW Controller to have actual hardware controls over the In- and Outputs as well as all the audio levels, without having to go into Voicemeeter on my PC. I do not change the microphone sound inside of Voicemeeter at all, because Voicemeeter is solely for controlling the levels and creating mixes for my various destinations. Most frequent examples: Audio Interface, display speakers, streaming software, the DAW, voicechat software, in-game voicechat. The Microphone inputs are post processed going into Voicemeeter already. I use Equalizer APO and various VSTs (ReaEQ, ReaFir, ATK Expander and LoudMax) for basic post processing and more VSTs (Sanford Reverb & Pitchproof, occasionally Wider and Valhalla Freq Echo) for adding effects. And since the Equalizer APO is using text files for configuration I use batch files and my stream deck to control the effects on the microphones. A general separation from your approach to Voicemeeter is, that I don’t separate Voicemeeter from OBS in sound. Instead I just send a mix to OBS. It seems like a good idea at first to separate them, but by doing that, you give up a certain amount of control over the sound on stream. Being able to monitor whats going into the stream in realtime is a bliss.

I use IL Minihost Modular with VM and you can put on whatever free VSTs you want to adjust your sound once you set it up. I'm running an additional noise gate, real time noise removal, a de-esser, a compressor, very tiny bit of reverb to get some more naturalness back in the voice... etc... sadly I think I'm addicted to doing neat audio setups now and wouldn't want to go back to "one size fits all" type apps... but certainly they could have appeal for people that just want to jump in and record.

The problem lies in its usage of 8 channels, which cannot be modified. Attempting to utilize audio through Remote Control DRP results in ineffective handling. Until now, I've successfully integrated Voicemeeter and Sonar, and it's functioning exceptionally well.

Thanks! I use this now to cleanup my Mic Sound (internal Mac microphone) before it goes into MS Teams. I do the same for the output sound of MS Teams. For both I use the stock Voice Plugins (VP and VR) and a high pass filter at about 200Hz to finally save my ears of those boomy low frequencies. I wear Headphones and the basses war exhausting. Especially after a full day of calls. Also my own voice was muddy and boomy (bad acoustics in my room). That's all fixed now!

Voice meter has errors that make your audio staticy or cut out completely. Me and other streamers I know get the same issue. If it does not do that than it is 100% better. Cause it would be useable.

Based on this info you didn't mention it but I am assuming it also doesn't suppose Network audio AKA VBAN, for streamers that use voicemeeter to send multiple sources of audio from one Voicemeeter to another other a local network.

I'll just stick with VoiceMeeter tbh, looking at how the UI is and stuff looks messy at first but I can honestly understand why it was designed this way. It makes starts to make more sense as you use it, but a UI update would certainly help. Some people made 3rd party software that works along voicemeeter, like binding the master volume control to the windows volume. It makes the program easier to use but stuff like that should've been with voicemeeter from the start.

I definitely won't be throwing Voicemeeter out the window for this, but I use many more functions in Voicemeeter than the average streamer. Namely, Patch Inserts to route audio to a VST plugin application, and MIDI input for a much more robust "Streamdeck" I setup manually using an AKAI MIDI keyboard. I'll probably recommend this to friends who are looking for a better way to setup audio for their rigs for sure though. Then I don't have to screenshare a training session on Voicemeeter for them anymore xD

Something that sonar, rode unify, elgato wavelink etc all lack is audio channel limiters. I need to be able to apply a limiter to my game audio to prevent big jumps in volume from giving me hearing damage! For example the game icarus has a really loud and grating woodchopping sound and it hurts my ears. Just lowering the overall game audio makes all other sounds too low. So in voicemeeter I just apply a limiter to my game audio channel and whenever the sounds go above that threshold it's not too loud anymore. My problem with voicemeeter is that it has a noticeable delay when I hear audio vs when it's played on my recordings. So in my gameplay videos the audience hears something before I do, so my commenting is delayed. It's annoying.

Why would you use a noise gate in the Chat section? That's for the output. You put "Chat" as the output in Discord etc.
@TheFranswahStudio
@TheFranswahStudio 2 жыл бұрын
Discords output would be to the chat source of the Sonar app. As far as the Noise Gate goes having the noise gate to prevent lower db values from being heard in your headset from those you’re in comms with is a nice touch
