I believe you really could sell some boxes and people would be thrilled to buy them!! Lindsey, it would help you pay for the items you purchased for us because we ask you to review. You have been so kind about reviewing items and we appreciate it because you are so honest, always thinking of US and you never compromise your ethics.

I’m glad you decided to post this. You give a lot of budget friendly storage ideas and that itself is invaluable! I have things I haven’t put my hands on since pre-pandemic. Mainly because of where it is. I will be taking a bunch of things to be sold at my local stores yard sale in the spring. I’m telling you, I just want a dumpster! TFS, I’m proud of you ❤

50 years ago, I appreciate time with an older woman... probably about my age now, and I was starting to paint with oils. She was inspired and got hers out and discovered her caps wouldn't come off. She wasn't surprised and demonstrated how she just got out a wooden match and heated up the area on the bottom of the cap for a few seconds and they opened! Some did take more than one attempt but they all came off.

I know that you are doing an art retreat in Europe again this year but you could consider doing one in Maine one year. I’ve always wanted to see Maine in the fall and then you can use up a bunch of supplies and not have to trek them very far. Could be a way to bring some tourism to your area and get other local businesses involved. Just an idea. Thank you for sharing your space with us it’s looking great!

I have a portable building I use,… half for making skin care products and half for mostly making greeting cards for our ministry and then drawing, pencils, markers … when our grandkids come to visit they get out of the car with their parents and want to head to mimi’s cardshop😂… have fun,😀. We live in the country so I order most supplies online too ❤️. I really enjoy your videos. Blessings!

Oh the joy of organizing!!!😉 I was finishing up my studio defrag as I watched (I’ve been at it for over a week), I thought I was done but the other day I decided to go through ALL of my sewing stuff and keep only what fit into my 2 door large metal office storage cabinet. If it didn’t fit I didn’t keep it. It’s so tight I don’t think I could slip a piece of paper into it! 😂 I want the majority of my space to be for artwork so I needed to declutter a bunch of that stuff. Thanks for keeping me company while I sorted! Im so glad I’m not the only one with a paint splotched rug- mine is light tan with mostly dark paint splotches. One splotch looks an awful lot like a spider, it has evoked a few squeals from visitors and has even gotten stomped a few times! I think I need to drop some more paint onto it to make it look less spiderish 😂

Hi Lindsey, I’m only 30 minutes in and I just needed to let you know the struggle is real. You’re not alone I decided to for 2025 to have a go at my art room as well. It’s literally taken me over a week and I’ve only just done my travel watercolour brushes and then realised I had a few liners that I hadn’t put in so I haven’t finished that job and I have all my other paintbrushes out of my desk and I haven’t even touched those because I keep getting sidetracked and procrastinate with all the stuff, so trust me. when I say you’re doing a hell of a lot better than I am. Something you could do when you want to give yourself some room for extra money is if you’ve got a lot extra supplies. Even if you know you’ll eventually use them, but you won’t obviously use all of it for a very long time. You could sell some of it on Facebook marketplace, or just in your local paper or whatever and put that money aside to use for other things. Because at the end of the day let’s face it with some of the stuff we have, if we were to sit down and actually look at how long it’s been since we’ve touched it. The likelihood is, it’s probably gonna sit for that amount of time again before we actually get to it so why not sell some of it now use the money for other stuff. At the end of the day you can always re-Byatt, even if it cost a little bit more, unless it’s not sold any more obviously.

27:22 I have collected an about 6 of the empty refillable markers for acrylics. I haven't used them yet...I purchased mine when I was in my local fine art supply store and they were on super clearance and they're the Montana brand too...a very good graphic art paint brand...they also sell the very expensive spray cans (the ones always locked up) for graffiti artists and big mural artists. 😊

The annual defrag/default space tour is always so inspiring and motivates me to get my hands on everything and play! I mentioned this on Sat Chat last week, but re: the oil paint section 8:00-17:30, would you consider a video (perhaps Frugal Friday?) on what your fave combo of mediums is to revive a paint that's gotten stiffer in the tube? I have a couple of Gamblin tubes that are 4-5 years old, and I can feel how firm they are just holding the tube, so I'll be experimenting with what I like specifically just to loosen them enough to start a painting--they're earths/neutrals that work well for thin initial layers, and I want to be solvent-minimal, given my ventilation isn't industrial grade, lol, so I'd be interested in what you like and how much relative to the amount of paint squeezed out for tubes that are even older than mine. Thanks in advance for always encouraging fun, Lindsay!

I have an oil painting coming up this week on KZbin and Critique club. Soyls like you might need to mix in some solvent with a palette knife.gamsol is my choice for trad oils bit I just bought some medium w to try. I don't think it will think it that much but I'll do videos on it. I think a basic oil video is in order!

Thank you for all your random musings and tips - I've learnt a lot - like taping the blades on a piece of cardboard before throwing them away in case someone gets hurt. That never crossed my mind and I'm quite stunned by not thinking that before. Thankfully, I haven't had any need to throw away sharp blades much so all's good. This is a treat - being able to see your storage and how you approach things. I love your content and your cheery voice. Makes me happy. I have a very small stash of supplies so I tend to organize every so often or when things gets messy. My mind can't handle cluttered or messy so in some ways I'm in awe and also partially terrified by the fact that my crafting supplies could grow like this someday lol This video motivated me to use the things I have already so that's a good thing! =D

Re the fountain pens: The Preppies have a special mechanism in the cap (I think it's called "Slip'n'Seal" if my memory serves) that will keep the ink from drying out for months! In fact, I've had them start right up over a year later!!!) But I also keep mine stored horizontally; not sure if that helps but I can't complain about my Preppies drying out! Hullo Lindsay, I am a bit of a collector too. I do not use the "H" word. I have not seen any good videos on the Chelsea mediums. I would love to see someone I trust to use them with regular oil paints as well as the water mixable oils! Why for such an amazing product there are not more videos? or at least people talking about them?? They should work with any type of Oil paint! Well I am off to watch more of this video!

20:16 For those pretty pages from the calendar...you could definitely donate those as ephemera. For people who do collage or for art/junk journaling...all those beautiful birds...they'd love those images ...birds are a standard beloved image, aren't they? People never tire of them...same for flowers 🌺, right? I love old post cards and vintage & curious images from all sorts of genres, but Victorian era women's fashion, nature prints...all faves along with steam punk and diagrams of old machines. I just bought a stash of ephemera from a local Friends of the Library store. Not sure what I'll do with them...but they won't go to waste! They're just so cool! i'm just saying, whatever ephemera you don't want, be sure to donate it because someone will likely use it! 😊

I'm 11 mins in and really feeling your conflict with the oil paint tubes. Art supplies and books are my trouble areas. Fantasy me loves to keep stuff for the me that doesn't exist. Man, she's a hoarder 😂 and she tries sneaky ways to keep things like, keeping them because my daughter might want to use those supplies, even though my daughter doesn't paint much and prefers sewing. Real me has started asking my daughter if she'll use those supplies and if not, real me sticks them in a donation box to go, even with fantasy me complaining that I'll regret that later. Sometimes that box doesn't leave the house though, so fantasy me still wins 😔 I guess the difficulty with the art supplies is because they are an important part of communicating and creating for me. They mean more to me than clothing, jewelry or kitchen stuff so they're harder to be objective about decluttering.

I have never tried oils painting. I have been through my craft room 2 times. When I first started painting I went all out and bought the best paint and watercolor paints and paper. I have been painting for 1 1/2 year’s. I bought out Amazon I think. Just kidding. I love what watercolor does. I will never stop painting. I have a problem with using all I have because “out of sight, out of mind “ I paint every morning 7 days a week at 6 or 7 am. Till afternoons. I have a lot of time so I spend it painting. I love all your art pieces (crafts) I used to paint rocks with acrylic. Someone introduced me to watercolor and said that I’m talented so I gave it ago and I fell in love. I wouldn’t have any other way.

To get the caps off, put the tube cap-side down in very warm water. You should be able to remove the caps off even with the oil paints.

Love oil paints lindsay!! More oil paintings please? Question, i have older mediums too. How long do they last? Not sure if i should toss some of my older jars. Seriously some are 40 plus years old.
@thefrugalcrafter
@thefrugalcrafter 15 сағат бұрын
I have an oil painting video coming this week! If the mediums are still liquid they should be fine. Some oils may darken or go rancid. If they smell weird I'd toss them, linseed should keep butbwalnut may go off and a darker oul may "antique" your colors so if you notice a lot of discoloration you might want to toss it. Otherwise they are fine.

You have an amazing inventory of oil paint that would be extremely expensive to replace. I would have kept it, too. I want to try oil paint at some point, but I can't afford a new medium right now, and frankly, I need to use up some of the supplies I have on hand.

We archaeologists use them for dirt colors. edit- it is not. aww lol. they are rare, expensive, and get dirty fast so I must ask. but I know you said selling is a different thing- but you might get a lot of money back and know that your supplies will get used if you sell -as is- used open lots on ebay. I prefer used to be honest.

This was amusing and inspirational. I have a lovely craft room that has a desk and work table but it is overflowing. It’s so full that I take the supplies for my current project out to the dining room table! I just can’t be inspired to work with stuff from painting, beading, wire work and stained glass distracting me. I’ve started to tackle it but I’m not sure where to donate things, like beads and findings. I need suggestions where to donate.

I have a video on my channel of setting up my studio gouache palette. I use this one, but it is large: amzn.to/40qZLUh Here is the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZKopWSCbNeCmtUsi=w49NH4gT4xUQwOzC I also have some gouache in a travels palette, a portable painter: amzn.to/4gJEWck I like the big studio one, I add a bit of watercolor blending medium to the wells to keep it from drying out too much. I only keep basic colors out all the time but I will squeeze out other colors right thete if I need them. A ceramic egg dish would work well too. The gouache dosnt seem to flake off ceramic as much as plastic.

Its funny how our psych works sometimes! I had issue with just buying budget color pencils and as long as they sit in their own tins one here one there, you never realize how much you really have, even tho deep down you know. I bought 2 case of 500 slot pencils each. I know its a spend as well but as soon as I put all my pencils in cases, its more organized, sure but more importantly now those 500 slot each pencil cases stare me in the face saying "we are 1000 pencils, chilling over here, and oh your prismas and polys are in differen cases over there, just so you know" (yes! my supplies sassy-talk to me 😂😂) and since then i haven't had mind to open any retail and order more. and instead have spend more time with those cases, uses those pencils. somehow it works for me! I did same with watercolor tubes, 2 cases, one professional and one student, staring me just in face! :D

I totally get your hesitation about getting rid of the oil paint right now. Oil paint is having a moment with your discovery, and the CoolFactor, of making your own oil paint sticks. Now that you're playing with encaustics, it's like you said -- you have the luxury of the space to hang onto them until you are well and truly ready. Decluttering doesn't mean tossing everything you still love. And there is still the thing where one man's clutter is another's joy. There was nothing in this video that you should feel the need to justify to anyone. Honestly, your stashes couldn't be more organized and actually used. Pfffftttt!!!! to anyone giving you any guff over it. I love the idea of fountain pens, but like you I don't love the bother of the time it takes to get them flowing, nor the upkeep, so I don't have any expensive ones anymore -- just the Preppy pens. Oh man, they are a workhorse that always flow when you need them to. With fountain pens drying out, maybe store them horizontally so that the nib and the feed both stay wet? Yannooooohhh....... A lot of those little embellishment tchotkes would make some pretty awesome/fun charm bracelets, necklaces, or earrings. ~just sayin' I, too, have one of those drawer units with wheels where the drawers don't pull all the way out. At first I hated it, but quickly realized how much I love the fact that I never have to worry that I will accidentally pull it all the way out. To remove the drawers, if your unit is truly like mine, al you need to do is to squeeze the sides of a drawer, then wiggle it from side to side as you're pulling to easily remove it. You're welcome :)

It hurts, but get rid of all that old oil paint and treat yourself to a nice new set. If you teach again, they can bring their own, or factor the cost of some basic colors into the price. A lot of the paint might be bad anyway, even though its soft. It hurts the soul, but let it go. Been there done that 😢
