Do you or have you made your own watercolours? Your knowledge about these is fascinating. I love watching you swatch....very calming and as I said fascinating 😌 😁 yes it did look like a paynes grey. I actually went back to rewatch because I was typing at the time and was surprised when you said indigo because I had assumed it was paynes grey lol What's going on with the magnet? 😮 so there's metal in the paint right? Which colours would you do that with...just that black or are there others? Mind blown right now 🤯😂 The gamboge in the rainbow tin, to me, seemed to dry to a disappointing "flatness" I love gamboge usually because of the mix of yellow and brownish tones it dries into (I may have that completely wrong because I don't have any knowledge about these things) but yeah the yellow gamboge in, I think, my winsor and newton cotman set is gorgeous. One of my favourites.
@thefrugalcrafter2 ай бұрын
Mars black will move with a magnet. Look for pbk11 pigment. The pigments for gamboge have changed over the years as they have been discontinued. Every brand has a slightly different version or a warm yellow. With PR sometimes names get mixed up in translation.

By the way, if you want to try an Eastern European brand with great earth colours, I recommend Roman Szmal, they have really nice earth shades, and a huge variety. Hmmmm, I'd advise against getting too attached to that crimson, since PR 206 was discontinued a couple of years ago. That caused a bit of a kerfuffle because a LOT of manufacturers were using it in their Quin Gold mixes and had to reformulate YET AGAIN after both PO 49 and PO 48 were discontinued.
@thefrugalcrafter2 ай бұрын
Yes, I heard about that from Cheap Joe's! I have a few tubes of pr206 and you can still find it so stock up if it's an important color for you.

It's interesting that once again, this set says it uses discontinued PR206 for the (permanent) Alizarin, and long-discontinued PO49 (the original quinacradone gold) for several mixes. PR88 is also very rare and DaVinci is the only other company I know of that uses it in mixes. Winsor & Newton did used to use a unique hue of PR206 for their permanent Alizarin, but changed it fairly recently. Rubens may still have old stock, and it's quite interesting it's the same hue as W&N's. But I honestly question the PO49.

Mostly not to spray apply it (make a spray mist or use it in an airbrush) buts it's also a good idea not to eat, drink or smoke while using cadmium based paint ti avoid accidentally ingestion. 😉

Hullo Lindsay, I almost passed this video bye. I am so tired of the Paul Rubens watercolors as you cannot buy replacement paint! Now, I have purchased a set because of the tin! My wife exclaimed that she would LOVE to have a pink tin palette! So I purchased the 24 half pan set and the first thing I did was remove the paints and inserted a grand set of DaVinci of California Paints! I believe the DaVinci Paints are a superior paint to the Rubens and I am done buying student grade or “fake” professional grade paints! I have liked and of course here is your comment with time watched, to help with the algorithm, here’s hoping I have helped you and your channel boost your videos! This one as well as your other videos! You your Dad with the rest of the family are in our prayers and good thoughts too!
