This is a fantastic video for anyone considering an Arnage or any older Bentley/Rolls for that matter. I've spent the last 7 months sorting out a Continental R I recently purchased and can attest that if you are someone who wants everything up to snuff on these cars, you have to prepare for some serious expenditures. I do believe that using the dealer will push these costs even higher, but there's no escaping the cost of parts and extensive labor required to service. That said, once set up correctly, a Bentley really is a special experience and garners respect wherever you go. Can't wait for the followups!!

Don’t take this the wrong way, but you have more money than sense! Quick check on a few websites show as you could have bought a 50,000 mile Rolls-Royce Phantom with full dealer service history for less than you’ve paid for this. Although you have spent all this money on it I estimate it’s worth half of what you spent. You seem a really nice guy, but you really need to update your knowledge on mechanical things as I believe quite a bit of this work was probably not necessary. Going to a specialist dealer would’ve been immeasurably cheaper. I’m glad you’ve got what you want in the end.

Great video (amazing production values) and I am looking forward to watching the rest of the series. However, I can't believe you gave the Arnage to a Bentley main dealer to resolve the issues. Find yourself an independent Bentley specialist they will look after you better and charge you considerably less than the stealership. Plus Bentley independents are usually set up by ex Bentley main agent staff so they will have the experience and expertise to work on the older cars. None of the issues you listed are major issues and thus are relatively simple to resolve. I work on my own Aston Martin and I have done many of the jobs on your list myself, including rebuilding transmission valve blocks (though not on the Aston). I really enjoy getting the spanners out and its a great way to really bond with your car.

Dear arnage owner, I had the pleasure of 8 years ownership of a 2001 arnage rl in Hong Kong. My service range was very similiar to yours plus I had to replace the head gaskets plus pipes etc . I didn’t have to remove the transmission. This bentley model is the coolest I think and even Ms Yoko Lennon has one. Terry Chan

I absolutely agree- main dealerships are ludicrously overpriced, those lists of items should have been £5,000 max, and listening to that overpaid dealership guy, he clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about! They saw u coming a mile off dude, and they are laughing all the way to the bank! The moral of this story is NEVER take a car that’s out of manufacturers warranty to a main dealership- they are crap, they overcharge massively for anything & everything, and they are likely to have a 17 year old apprentice with zero experience working on it out of customer sight. I’m afraid that absolutely ridiculous bill you paid those jokers will have helped a great deal to finance the ‘executive’ salaries they are paying people like that bozo on your video. FIND A PROPER INDEPENDENT RR/B SPECIALIST- never use main dealership charlatans like these idiots.

I absolutely love the shape of the Arnage. Automotive art. However, having owned both the RR engine model and the BMW engine model, I would only buy a 4.4L BMW unit. Ironically the cheapest model, and the least produced, but far moire reliable. Whichever one you buy, do your research and you won't be disappointed. Don't, and you could well end up bankrupt...
@impslap76202 жыл бұрын
This is scary because most folks who buy these will do so without this expectation. I've learned that any older luxury car is likely to require a large cash outlay to bring it up to snuff. However, is this degree of expense normal for pre-owned Bentleys?
@TheGadgetGuru2 жыл бұрын
From what I've come to learn, this is not unusual for those who want to own a car of this caliber, but don't have the mechanical skills or facilities to to it themselves. If I had to do it all over again, I would have preferred to buy a car that had been refreshed (as I did) vs one that needed an unknown amount of work.

@@juststuff5216 Actually, this is only the case for a car that has not been maintained. All of this video producer’s expenses are related to past poor maintenance and unnecessary upgrades he wanted. @@LWVH81 Sorry, that wasn't what I experienced, and it certainly wasn't the experience expressed my restorer friend either. I was seriously thinking about buying an Arnage before seeing this video. Not any more ! I have had three Chrysler 300 crds (all with the Mercedes engine) and would strongly recommend that model to anyone looking for a big car offering 'presence' at great value for money, The car is often admired by strangers and looks and drives beautifully at 110k miles and 16 years of age. Servicing and the occasional repair all carried out at sensible prices by an independent garage with experience of Chrysler 300s.
