I have a 1989 Bentley Turbo R and a 1997 Bentley Turbo R. You don’t buy these cars to “show off”. You buy a good example and you simply enjoy the excellent build quality and the massive amount of torque and power these engines have. It’s all about how these machines drive and operate and what they accomplish for being 5600 lbs.

Another great one. After 8 years of ownership of my 2002 I found mostly the service costs experience as you have. You do however have to stay on top of it, which it looks like you do. Steering column is a big one and spheres, thought not as big, are a necessary evil every few years. Also, watch out for window regulators, they are plagued by tiny plastic bits that can wear out or can be chewed up if the windows are not properly reset after a dead or swapped battery. Overall, enjoy and keep up the good work on the videos.

I bought a 2005 W220 S 500 long wheelbase a year ago with the same kind of fears. So far the repair and service costs have been 400€ in 10 months and over 10 000 miles. My friends love arriving in places in a black S class with soft-close doors and a driver (me) to open the doors -we don't have valet services in many places in Finland. The price for the car is about a third of the Bentley and it still amazes me how the car puts a smile on my face every single day - and how it still gathers so much attention while arriving in public places. This was an excellent video, I am so happy for you!

May 17, 2021 I agree with Josh. I purchased a very niceley optioned 2009 Arnage R in 2017 as the second owner with 3,800 miles from new, which cost about $274,000 new out the door from Braman Motors in Palm Beach, FL. It's now approaching 10,000 miles with no mechanical issues. It now lives in Orange County, CA. Note: the Bentley's will need new shocks at roughly 40,000 miles, which cost $2,000 each for parts, not including installation. It needs Pirelli P Zero's to carry the weight and speed rating of around 178 MPH. It also will require repair or replacement of rear spheres at about the same mileage. Beware of too little mileage use if shopping for a Bentley, as non-use is worse than misuse or deferred maintenance. I wouldn't buy a 2000 series Arnage with less than 10,000 miles because you don't know if they were early miles or later miles, which means you don't know if the car has been sitting around for years without being driven. This car needs exercise regularly. Run at least 30 minutes at freeway speed at least monthly. Keep battery trickle charge on the car as batteries (2 of them) will run down in less than a week, then all hell breaks loose. I'm using a CTEC model, which is the brand that Bentley badged when selling the car new. Only 2008 and 2009 Arnages have the head gasket leakage and cam bearing wear problems fixed, along with a a GM six-speed tranny. They are functionally identical cars. Facelift occurred at 2005 when the headlights lost the glass covering. Cherry '09's R models, nicely optioned are running around $90k with under 15,000 miles. Many for sale which do not have options. Rear picnic tables and rear vanity mirrors are a must for resale sustainability. If over 40,000 miles, insist on road testing the car and confirm maintenance records on suspension items. These are more than a passing DIY project. Plus, you'll have some recourse if the mechanic screws up instead of suing yourself for damages. There were 150 Final Series cars made, nearly all of them double black with upgraded stereo and special badging and perhaps a hotter chip. Some other extra do-dahs that will impress your friends, but otherwise be useless, such as a a refrigerator in between the back seat arm rests, a cocktail decanter and champagne flues in back of the front seats. These are marketed as premium cars, but they're not usually worth the extra money, unless you want a black car, which is the most popular (least original) color, which looks like a Darth Vader mobile. That's if you're into intimidating cars. And you'll have to wash it twice a week even if it's in the garage. That is, if you don't have a chauffeur. Retractable radio antennas regularly fail as factory OEMs were defective quality. Make sure the antenna is working before you buy your car. I didn't know this, and replacement cost me about $550 from independent garage in Los Angeles. Mine is double Magnolia. Only three of this color combination '09 R's brought into North America according to Bentley factory records. Most common color combination is double black. This does not make for a unique car, other than it is a Bentley. The '09 model year was the last of the classic 5-gauge cluster dashboard design. Note to manage your expectations: The rear view camera and navigation system is completely useless. The sun visors do not disengage for swinging over the driver's side window. The center console may not have cup holders because there's no way you can have cups in the center console and also lower the center arm rests. Get used to no cup holders. Besides, no proper Bentley owner would drive with coffee inside the leather covered car anyway. Can't fill up at Costco because their pumps are set at full capacity to save fill up time. The Bentley can't take full volume, so shuts off almost immediately. Go to another gas station and set pump speed at lowest setting and take your time. It's a Bentley, for Pete's sake. You're never in a hurry. Side mirrors are nearly useless. Too small for full view of right side of car. Make lane changes VERY carefully, check twice. Always drive around a corner extra slow. That's an unwritten law of Bentley owners. Let them have a good look at you. NEVER look out the window at a stop light to see at who's looking at you. It's so amateurish of new Bentley owners. Image it's only one of several cars in your collection. No big deal. CON'T BE A JERK. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT BEING A JERK. You're driving an elegant car. Act like ladies and gentlemen who amongst ladies and gentlemen. It will surprise everyone who will be expecting a jerk. Be extra courteous as a Bentley driver. People are looking at you as if you're a snob or privileged. Set a good example for others as drive courteously and always give a pedestrian extra right of way. Give thanks to other drivers who give you the right of way or allow you to make a generously gracious lane change. As a new Bentley owner, you'll be owning a PMC. This is an inside owner's term for a Bentley or Rolls, which stands for "proper motor car." Join the Rolls Royce Owner's Club, which also covers Bentley's. They're a great organization. Budget around $5,000 per year on average for repairs. That's everyone's best advice. If you can't afford it, make more money then buy your Bentley. Set it aside as a contingency fund. Change the oil more frequently than required. I use MOTUL and buy from Amazon. It uses standard $15 oil filters. No Mobil 1. Also, do not use ordinary brake fluid. This car uses mineral oil only. If you use brake fluid, you will have to drain it all out and you'll be sorry. Make sure your local mechanic knows this and doesn't "top off" your brake system with ordinary brake fluid. Most parts are available from Flying Spares in the UK. They are very helpful and courteous. If you join the RROC, their monthly magazine offers many U.S. based parts suppliers. I've changed both pollen and cabin filters purchased from Flying Spares. I've had NO adverse comments or gestures from others. Mostly, an occasional sincere comment of appreciation, like "nice car" or thumbs up on the freeway. I always thank them graciously in some manner. Jay Leno advises in his Bentley Turbo R video, "Act like you know somebody." I'm not sure that works for me. Finally, i think that a cheap Bentley is the most expensive you'll ever buy. Enjoy your Bentley! PS. Look for a video coming soon on Her Majesty, my PMC.

It was $105,000 new in 2017 money and everyone warned me of impending financial disaster. In 4 years it actually did need lots of suspension parts changed and intake related gaskets but all were DIY thanks to the forums. I would buy it again in a heartbeat and the pleasures are many owning a car that is still very much a $105,000 car! Btw, we have the same 4.4L BMW engine, yours is twin turbo'd and we have the same ZF 5hp-30 transmission!

Really enjoyed watching that. A refreshingly normal review of something by a normal person. Not just spouting myths and legends about Bentley,giving a balanced picture of ownership was good to hear. I drive a silver 05’ 300 touring, and I can’t see the resemblance. Ik in 05’ alot of rappers, wannabes rapper, and hood rich guys had one. I’ve also seen people replace the grills and add other cosmetic items to make it look even more like a Bentley, but I still can’t see the resemblance.

3:27 You're damned right! Pull up in front of a Ritz-Carlton and you are ASSURED that your Arnage is not being sent away to join the Infiniti crowd in the Valet lot. Your Arnage, will still be AT THE FRONT DOOR when you are ready to leave!

Great video. Nice to see you enjoy the car. I bought a mondial 3.2 cabriolet last april and use it as a daily driver during summer season. I was predicted the same horror scenarios. Turns out to be one of the most trustworthy cars I ever drove. Kicked out my 2017 Renegade who had another problem or light flashing every other day.

$187 for pouring in a can of Seafoam? Anyway, I'd totally buy a pristine, low mileage Bentley at that price.

D LG any other mechanic would have lied and charged a grand.
@dlg54857 жыл бұрын
Maybe so, but that doesn't mean this 'repair' was worth $187.
@AfricaGeo7 жыл бұрын
D LG Yes it was worth. your not paying for the can , your paying for his expertise in knowing how to work on a $250,000 automobile. I agree it's a lot of money, but it's a darn Bentley!!!! 187.00 is cheap.....

George Hurtado The problem with your mindset...is that it is all too common. It is the conditioned thought process of the age of the internal combustion engine. That being... that you should be prepared to pay more for servicing and repair of your vehicle based on the price and perceived prestige. The dawn of the electric car is about to take that mindset and the internal combustion engine with it into oblivion.
@AfricaGeo7 жыл бұрын
A Netizen Relax,,,,,there is no problem with my mindset just like I don't think there is a problem with yours crying over a bill I feel us justified due to the mechanics experience on a niche product.

1st Gen Oldsmobile Auroras. May not be great cars or even good cars in the scheme of things today, but growing up was my favorite that still brings back great memories. I remember my dad and I looking/buying one for him back in 1998 vividly. My first real car love! Keep it up Josh!

Jake Kennedy - Back then, I collected a ton of car catalogs. Olds sent me an awesome hard bound book and video set on the new Aurora. The only other piece of literature to rival it was the spiral bound book they sent me on the Bravada oddly enough. None of the manufacturers go all out with promotional literature like that anymore.

One question ... insurance? That's what will kill this dream here in the UK. When it costs nearly £1,000 per year to insure something as lowly as a Ford Focus, walk into a car insurers here and say "how much will it cost to insure my Bentley Arnage?", the insurance rep is already thinking "month's holiday in the Seychelles paid for with the commission".

what heap of $hit car. You bought it at 30,000 miles..... a distance that would not bother any "lower class car".... but since then, you have: - had "2 unscheduled trips".... already a bad sign - Low coolant but no leaks? Oh yes, of course it must have evaporated - keep your eye on it - Rough idle.... Mmmm, at 30,000 miles? Has it been serviced regularly? If so - this is a crap fault. "Sea Foam"... gee lucky he thought of that because he was probably knocking off crap buildup around your valves or similar from a fundamentally $hitfully engineered engine.... In the old days, I used to gently pour water into the intake of my crappy 1600 ford escort whilst revving it when it ran like $hit - the water turned to steam and blew off carbon buildup around "bits that should never get carbon buildup" - and hence make your engine idle like $hit similarly. If you didn't find this guy.... you would have sunk into BIG $ right there - over $700 for AC filter changes when it really only costs $100..... that tells you that this car maker thinks its customers are idiots. - Ohhhh, then you got a faulty coolant indicator...... Wow? Ok, once again they would have ripped you through the guts if you didn't fix it yourself. Isn't it getting a bit embarrassing at this point? - And then you say you have some rather large expense items that will put the Bentley back in the specialist garage???? Jesus - there's more faults at 30,000 miles???? BUT, luckily you have found people to tell you how to avoid the said garage and fix (even more???) problems cheaper? - And then you finally let us know what your fundamental problem is ....... Perceived "Image".... - "maybe the car has the potential to ruin me financially".... YES My dad was stupid enough to buy a Rolls Royce silver shadow 20 years ago....... hahahahahahahaha - biggest heap of automotive $hit on this planet and swallowed tens of thousands of dollars. Go on.... keep it for 20 years and keep telling us how many things %$#@ed up for our amusement. YOU WILL GO BROKE

I do like the styling compared to BMW Rolls thingy, it's timeless. I know you feel. When my wife and I owned a Jaguar X-Type, which was upgraded for an 2006 XJ6 2.7, you did feel special when you turned up to hotels or to restaurants. People would comment on beautiful the XJ6 was. Alas it had to go due to the DPF going wrong again. At least the gentleman who purchased the car put it back on the road, and I still have my '65 Humber which also has the same special magic, pity about cost of petrol and low MPG etc. Keep on rocking!
