Great Video! One of the best comparison videos I've seen. Addressed all the questions I had about the new version and more, so very helpful. Also great setup, backround, etc. I like the back and forth as well - was neat to get two opinions on the games along with a cordial discussion about them.

There is an error made when talking about scoring Clerics. They score for building, park and zoo, not site. Thus the category icons on the board in the church.

I think you were scoring the Cleric wrong. The ruebook states, "Each cleric on the floor of the church grants 1 point for each building/zoo/park belonging to that category in the players display." (p.13)

Thanks for pointing that out! Because they used the same word (buildings) that were the cards that were placed facedown in Bruges, that’s why my brain went there! I still won’t use that black die for disasters as it’s already punishing enough. But that would help the one complaint I had about being able to throw sites down for easy points toward the end. It still wouldn’t change my overall feeling of this version though.

@@TheGameBoyGeeks It could change some people's, though. And your failure to even put Klingon subtitles into the video to point out your error speaks to your concern for accuracy, and I for one am less likely to watch your videos in the future if I know that that is your approach.

I decided to buy Hamburg and I’m pleased. I think the board looks fine/colourful which I like. The icons - well, for sure they should have included multiple booklets - no doubt about that. Still, I do like it and personally I think the version with the recessed boards was worth it and I’m glad I didn’t wait for the upcoming essentials version which looks much less appealing from a components pov.

Unfortunately, I prefer Menzel's artwork rather than this flat and garish one. The iconography also seems less clear to me. On the other hand, the rule changes are welcome. I'm keeping my Bruges and I made an adaptation of the rules. For me a very bad rework,

Great video and excellent points here. I find Hamburg to be better than bruges, but I’ll never sell my copy of bruges. And I’m in the minority in that I like the layout and look of Hamburg on the table. I bought my deluxe copy secondhand after knowing nothing was missing or damaged. 😜

Ìs it just me or am I reading the rules wrong. You dont get points for building cites based on clerks in the church but buildings build at the end of the game

You played the cleric rule wrong, they give a point per building type or anima/park. Not site. You will need a money engine too and you can build on top of anycolor site. So that critisism is flawed.

Finally bit the bullet and managed to pick up Bruges last year for £65. Ludicrous money really but it is a fantastic game and I really love the art. When I saw that Queen were 're-releasing' it i thought "Typical! it'll probably be £35 and better than the original in some way". But then I saw the new rules and thought "hmmmm. Having a choice of all 5 cards is a massive change and it doesnt feel like a good one". And then I saw the price!!!! So i'm feeling pretty happy that I managed to get a copy of Bruges, I dont really like the new art and I feel that Hamburg it is a lesser game in many ways. Thanks very much for this comparison.

Really unfortunate. Looks like I'll have to pay scalper prices if I want to try Bruges. I think the gaming community has a similar opinion on the new version because I'm seeing this on clearance at many online game stores.

That was by far the worst Kickstarter I was ever involved in. They wouldn’t listen to any of the backers nor communicate with them for large periods of time and in the end it just wasn’t worth it for me so I didn’t back it. Terrible decisions across the board.

my distrust of queen games is what prevented me from backing the new felds even though he is my favorite designer. Ridiculous prices, zero listening to user comments, changing the art ater the initial teasers, crazy production choices, etc.. The have been seriously going down hill. I was worried about Fomo, but following the kickstarter updates and seeing how everything turned out, all i have is Eomo (Ecstasy of missing out). Comparing with how Awaken Realms handled COB, it's night and day, for almost the same price, lol. What a shame.

I agree, initially Hamburg was almost identical to Brugge and I was pledged right from the first, but then came the change in art and I bailed, as did a few others. An obvious bait and switch.

I knew the new version was gonna pale in comparison to the old, but unfortunately I couldn't get my hands on the old version. Luckily, I was able to snatch up those cards with text, I thought I saw in an update that they replaced the icons with text on those, but I'm not 100% sure. At least it seems like you can play Hamburg using the Bruges ruleset.

The last images I’ve found online have the text at the top but like I said in the video I’m not sure of that was final, but either way it looks like those are not available anymore and most people that get the Game will not have text. But yes if you can’t get Bruges and you don’t mind the art, you could play with the original ruleset.

Oh man, if Andrew Bosley was in charge of this game, he would have made a universe of a difference. A game like Tapestry would have suffered immensely in someone else's hands, he made that one look just gorgeous to look at. I have to say I have to pass on these because of the graphics and the aesthetics.

Hamburg looks like a bloated mess. Glad I passed on this one, despite really wanting to play Bruges. Why couldn't they have just reprinted Bruges??

Because they wanted more money. Money from new players, money from fans of the previous game that might fall for this "new" "improved" "upgraded" version, and money from the huge difference of prices between the old and the new versions. Queen games will have to make a really fantastic game for me to buy something from them again.

AVOID ! Queen Games has massive production problems and their games are regularly missing pieces. Nonetheless, Queen Games still knowingly sells these defective games. And thereafter, they are refusing to provide the missing replacement parts.
