I wanna talk about TLauncher since all ye pirates out there keep bringing it up TLauncher is against the law in most countries due to copyright and piracy law. It’s just that no one really enforces internet piracy, at least in most Western countries. I’m not going to scold you guys for piracy because, let’s be honest, everyone’s pirating stuff these days on the internet. What I do think is concerning, though, is the number of sketchy “free Minecraft” versions there are on the internet. Just imagine you’re a toddler looking up “free Minecraft” on the internet (I’m 100% POSITIVE that was some of you in the past). There are a lot of viruses out there that surface when kids look up those kinds of things, and little kids aren’t going to know the difference between their free Minecraft and something that could harm them or their device. I genuinely think that there’s an argument to be made for Free-To-Play Minecraft in making the internet a lot more kid-friendly. It would eliminate the need for TLauncher, as well as super sketchy and malicious fakes that are all over the internet, which would really be in Mojang and Microsoft’s best interest.

You'd probably get something similar to Pixel Gun 3D (at least the way I remember it): Buy customizable skin templates. You can make them as intricate as you want, but it will cost you in-game or real-life currency to get a new one.

Or they could make it so that cosmetics have a more depth than the three layers currently available, bedrock has both a individually purchased skins, a character creator with paid cosmetics and the ability to add custom skins on platforms where it's possible to get the file in the first place (aka not console) That doesn't mean that I want Minecraft to go free (Also I would like to metion that on Bedrock everything that could be gotten from the marketplace could also be gotten for free (not the exact same but texture packs, behavior packs and maps), it's just that the marketplace is in-game)

I agree with most points in ur vid. I feel that Bedrock is near the point of it should be free to play but Java has a pay wall. Java has much more freedom in what it has to offer with minimal pay for almost any community project, whereas bedrock has a lot more paid content and doesn’t necessarily need the upfront pay. The two feel like very different experiences

Interesting idea, but how would that bring new players into java edition? If a person wanting to try minecraft sees that one version is free and another is 30 dollars yet they share a pretty similar experience, which one do you think they are going to go with? (Especially cause the marketplace has no value for bedrock cause you can get most of that stuff for free). What I am saying is to the average Andy wanting to try Minecraft for the first time, they aren't going to know the subtle differences between the versions, and how one *feels* over the other. The one thing against making Minecraft f2p is also that most of the Content is made by the community on Servers, which Microsoft can't controll anymore at this point. So if they come with new stuff that costs the community would mostly just stay at the f2p stuff. You can see it as Microsoft tried to get the Java people to Bedrock, which didn't work as the content costs partially and on Java there is way more free stuff. You could compare it with the real world: One country is very centralised and everything in the country is owned by the state there. These are mostly the f2p games. Then there is a country that isn't centralized at all and the buisneses are owner by all sorts of people. How would you try to controll the market? This would be Minecraft.

I think you make some good arguments here and overall I agree with you but I think the idea that there wouldn't be an increase in hackers is completely wrong. If there are a certain number of normal gamers and then a certain minority of them that are willing to cheat, an increase in player count will increase those numbers equally, like you say. However, in addition to that it will make it less of a risk for the hackers as an account is suddenly free so it makes it easier for the hackers even if the ratio of hackers to normal players doesn't change. Additionally because hacking is less risky, this will just remove one of the reasons most people don't cheat: they don't want to risk losing their account. Unless they like really love the exact username they have then it doesn't really matter. Great video though as per usual and I think it's cool of you to facilitate this kind of discussion.

to the hacker argument, on bedrock edition you don’t have to pay for an account but rather the game itself, so hackers can make infinite accounts and do whatever they want, the hacker argument isn’t really strong.

Well, I mean, not necessarily. If Bedrock was free to play, there’d be a large increase in game downloads and active players. And how many of those new players would be hackers? Probably a very small percentage, since, as you mentioned, the hackers already have infinite accounts when the game is paid for. In the end, bedrock would have a lesser frequency of hackers simply because the people who are downloading Minecraft when it becomes free to play are legit players who are new to the game

I would definitely be worried about currently free community resources becoming Mojang run, have to pay things like mods and texture packs. Also, regarding the hacking point, unless there were better anti cheats, either community made how it is or Mojang side like Valorant, I think hackers would go through the roof because the only consequence to getting banned is a little bit of time to get a new account. Also, in regards to kids, I’ve seen a lot of my friends’s siblings either being really horrible or blow a bunch of money if their parents are wealthy enough, and I feel like those fornite kids were a big reason the game died, at least comparatively to where it was in the late 2010s

I personally have played almost all Minecraft versions from mobile to java and I personally hate the marketplace and I wish that Minecraft would make an off game store for bedrock where you could download a mod off-site a bit like jazz and the makers of the mods would get payed for how many downloads they get. I think Minecraft going free to play would be good for the new player base but the older players who have played without the market place also in game names wouldn’t be as “interesting” the hype around even slightly rare names even if you have a one word name it can be considered rare. So tldr good option for new players and kids but the older and more experienced players would probably not enjoy.

I think a good solution to the "mojang will go bankrupt" problem, instead of making a ingame currency like the bedrock edition, I think mojang should be a bigger part of the multiplayer community, which is obviously the better and more interesting and probably bigger community because WE PLAY MINECRAFT AND WE DEFINITELY HAVA FRIENDS!!!L:J!KLJKL but in all seriousness, I think they should be more involved with the multiplayer community, perhaps the the point were they start hosting servers. They shoulnt be the only server hosters since theres no way they can support every single existing server. but big servers with a international player base that have a large/consistent revenue stream such as (obviously) hypixel could in a way partner with mojang. this would help the hacker situation alot, first ov all, and if this helps the hypixel player base to grow (since there would be less lag issues and mojang would have a closer look and better understanding of wha the main player base actually wants), then mojang could ask for a fraction of the revenue that hypixel makes. weve already seen form the games u listed that cosmetics generate alot of money. thats just one idea but the main point is that there are many ways that mojang could support the multiplayer playerbase.

the hacking problem would get 10 times worse if minecraft have gone free, right now after migration it's hard to find a place where you can buy alts and if you wanna cheat you need to get a decent vpn (like 15$), get alts where each one is $1-$1.5 and a client which usually costs about $20. If minecraft was free everyone would start bhopping and just change the account everytime they get banned, for example look at cracked servers, there are so many hackers it's hard to enjoy the game.

eh cracked servers don't have that many hackers nowadays (thanks to advancement in anticheats, anyways), you do hop into one sometimes but it isn't as often though I do agree that it'll get worse I don't think it would be necessarily a complete game-breaking amount. What I think would definitely get worse is the experience for hardcore players, since anti-hacking checks would get stricter and there'd be a lot of false-possitives which is really bad (I experience this right now on some servers, it'd be unplayable if it became even less tolerant)

I play Bedrock Edition a lot with my friends (since we are cross-platform), and I think that it would be a good idea for bedrock to become free since it would give people more oppurtunities to play with their friends. The main problem with Free2Play MC is that players who paid for the game would now be forced to put up with a game that (8:30) pressures them into spending more. Also, it will be hard to crack down on P2W servers if the base game is even slightly P2W.

Actuly , for the most of players that play "tlauncher" including me it's not the price that make you can't buy it , it's the payment that our county and others don't have , we litterly need a gift card (wich is very rare to find or even impossible) so our countys don't have any way to virtually pay only cash , so the problem is not it's cost so much , it's we can't pay in payment like PayPal , Mastercard , visa ,...ext bc it's not supported

Something you have over looked are the servers themselves for example hypixel has times were the server is so laggy people accidentally dupe now imagine that with even more people on the server if it became free to play I wouldn’t be surprised if a bunch of kids who saw technoblade (R.I.P.) farming potato’s on skyblock just all came into the server putting strain on the server

If had Minecraft been free to play, Minecraft would be much, much more accessible worldwide, and in turn would have clear head starts, if not commanding lead, against Roblox, most MOBAs (Southeast Asia, China, Korea), Free Fire/PUBG (South Asia, Latin America, North Africa and the Middle East), and Nintendo (Japan, Taiwan), assuming it got big attention like what happened IRL in the early 2010s. However, Minecraft would have microtransactions early on, like what Roblox did very early on, so it is also possible that Minecraft won't get off as easily, which is what happened with Roblox until 2016.

The problem with f2p in mc java is that only a small portion of non-KZbinrs actually play vanilla single player, most of the playerbase play on servers or modded mc, servers having their own monetization and modded mc being able to implement whatever you want. To go f2p, mc would need to get a cut of the money servers make or make cosmetics that are really unique, which I don’t find happening personallu

If Minecraft became free, I think the chat report system would make slightly more sense. Sounds like Roblox, lol. I really hope Minecraft gives everyone who payed for an account a free cape, as there are millions of people who payed for Minecraft one way or another past December 1st 2020. The paywall for getting Minecraft does help control the community and help stop thousands of alts being made. (Most alt shops use hacked accounts, not newly made ones.) It is possible to get free legal alt accounts because of the pc bundle and bedrock's weird account system, but still making Minecraft totally free would make ban evasions so much easier.

There is a current playerbase of 1.4 million cracked users of Minecraft and that is surely going to increase specially for those who are singleplayer enjoyers and even those players who don't have access to large multiplayer server is now have a large and increasingly good variety of options to play multiplayer on. My point being that this player base maybe dwarfed by the 140 million MC users but still it is a disadvantage to mojang due to the fact that their content is being played on through other cracked clients only BCS MC is not free..
