I think the best theory I’ve heard so far (regarding how Brain ended up in Scala) is that Luxu took over Brain’s body and casted Brain’s heart into the future. Nomura's issue is that after KH2, the sheer amount of context needed to get the KH series is insane. It's one thing to foreshadow, but certain scenes make literally no sense within their own games and are rationalized later on. KH3 is supposed to be the culmination of ALL the KH games so far, but it feels like a bunch of missions from UX's story that they decided to make into a full game. While all that makes KH unique, it makes it a chore to follow

I think it is more about expression. UX story in the end is pretty straightforward and characters kinda bland. It is also mostly kinda bland exposition. In short, it is a story which does not have the gravitas worth of 10 years. Taro had likely made something visually bizarre and actually mad storytelling that the confusion had actually been enjoyable. There are good reasons why this game is not the most applauded lore-exposition.

The evolution of Luxu is fascinating to me. He went from this inquisitive quiet kid in the beginning and by the end of UX Luxu is a cocky smartass willing to sass Darkness incarnate and took Brain with zero hesitation. Luxu even complemented Brain seconds before jumping him. We may never see Lucy’s true face but we will always remember his Second Face.

well, keep this in mind about Daybreak and Scala: when Aqua turned Land of Departure into Castle Oblivion, the mountains and the hills all vanished, leaving behind a empty world with a dark hole in the back. but when it was changed back, the mountains returned. i think it's safe to assume that when a Master changes a world, it completely changes everything; landmass, topography, possibly even animal life too. but there could be another explanation: he needed resources to build the city, didn't he? on top of all the rubble, there were also the mountains, mountains that could've been rich in ore to build an entire city with. but then... why does it look like Victorian London and not Greek Marble?

The player's heart must have been possessed by one of the darknesses after they trapped them. When his heart reincarnated into Xehanort, darkness came with it. They realized after Xehanort's birth that he was possessed by darkness, but she couldn't bring herself to end her child so she sent him off to exile in a small and remote world of light, with the robed figure tasked with preventing him from escaping the world, hoping that the Darkness won't take hold if he isn't exposed to more. The darkness within Xehanort slowly dragged Destiny Islands to the border of the realm of darkness. The robed figure fights a battle to hold back the tide, sealing the door to darkness within the heart of the world. This exertion kills them, and allows Xehanort to escape Destiny Islands. Luxu's conversation with Xehanort is meant to subtly instruct him on how to control the Darkness that's been with him since birth, to ensure it doesn't escape or take him over. The world of purity that Xehanort wanted to create would have been corrupted by the darkness within him. It was likely waiting for him to destroy the world before taking over Xehanort fully and creating a world of Darkness instead of Light. When Xehanort died, this Darkness latched on to Sora, trying to stay with the X-Blade. When Sora encountered Ventus's Heart after travelling back in time, the darkness that became part of Vanitas used its connection to Ventus's heart to try and weaken Sora so the Darkness could take over. Now that Sora is in Quadratum, the Darkness followed him there. I think the Master of Masters intended to lead all the 13 Darknesses there where they could be abandoned in a world they can't return from. So far, he's got the darkness he carried, the one in Sora, and potentially Ava's. There's Luxu and the 4 other foretellers, Vanitas, Marluxia, and Larxene. Ephemer's probably left him sometime in Scala, Maleficent likely took Darkness with her back to the present. So one Darkness that's AFK, unless it possessed Terra, which would explain his struggle with darkness in BBS. He was so surprised when it showed up in the exam, even asking himself where it came from, so it seems like Terra's struggle with Darkness was new to him in BBS, not an ongoing struggle. It likely followed Xehanort and latched on to Terra during his exam. So the current location of the 13 darknesses are probably Master of Masters, Sora and maybe Ava in Quadratum. Terra in the Realm of Darkness. Vanitas, Marluxia, Larxene, Unknown. Maleficent, Luxu, and the Foretellers minus Ava, Keyblade Graveyard. If the box contains a method to travel to Quadratum, then 9 out of 13 Darknesses will be in Quadratum shortly, as Luxu opens the way and Maleficent and Pete follow them in. Terra will probably go with the rest of the Keyblade crew to rescue Sora. Vanitas will probably follow Ventus there, and Marluxia and Larxene must go there at some point too if that's where the story seems to be headed. The new game Eraqus mentioned with 7 Darknesses and 1 Light would represent Sora standing against the foreteller's plans. If the foretellers mean to abandon Darkness in the world of fiction, where it may not affect their reality anymore, but will unleash them on a new reality, Sora will probably oppose them, not wanting to unleash darkness on an unsuspecting world. MoM and company are trying to bring the rest of the Darknesses to the world of fiction, and Sora's trying to stop them. Yozora and his friends probably find out about this threat and try to stop it. The ending where Yozora crystalizes Sora is probably meant to keep that Darkness contained and from corrupting Sora, and they plan to do that to all 13 vessels. When he loses to Sora, it shows that Sora's heart is strong enough to contain the Darkness on its own, so his powers aren't needed yet. With Sora's experience containing hearts, maybe he'll try to contain all the Darknesses in his heart, where they can't hurt anyone else. Edit: Just thought of something else, Sora may have picked up Marluxia's, Larxene's, Terra's, and Vanitas's Darkness during his time travel escapades, each one jumping on when they saw a Darkness possessed Time Traveler with plenty of space in his heart. So he may already have 5, and if he takes Maleficent's quickly in KH4, Then it's him with 6 Darknesses against 7 with 1 each. The pieces on the board represent all 13 darknesses, with 8 pieces. Each piece he captures is Sora capturing another Darkness. This relates back to Xehanort and Vanitas telling him his heart is a prison in DDD, which would be foreshadowing for this. Riku may end up taking some of his burden, or teaching him how to use Darkness without being overwhelmed by it.

While the inclusion of the 2.9 titlecard was a little meme-y it was actually being factual. That first scene where Yen Sid instructs Sora to visit Hercules, the one that lead into the 2.9 title card, was an upscaled copy of the final scene in 0.2. According to 0.2's theater mode that cutscene is titled "2.9 - The First Volume". As in "No really, we swear KH3 will be the next release and this is how it starts". Of course the Olympus World itself is original to KH3 and therefore isn't 2.9 but rather KH3's lengthy pre-titlecard prologue.

@@Thrust8EX To be fair, I don't think the version of Scala we actually saw in KH3 was the real place, just a recreation of the city within Xehanort's own heart. Sort of a "Home is where the heart is" kinda thing? Which is why it was populated solely by his replicas, why he was able to manipulate its architecture on a grand scale, why ReMind!Sora was able to physically interact with it despite needing to possess people throughout most of the Keyblade Graveyard sequence, and why the group was all returned to the Graveyard when Xehanort died. I mean if it was the real place, then I guess Mickey will end up going to a place in the next installment that has a giant crater blown in it by the battle with Armored Xehanort. Which leaves the implication that everyone on that planet got murdered some time after Xehanort was named Master.

We now know two major characters who weren’t born in Destiny Islands and end up there due to magic/shenanigans and have incredible power and potential (Xehanort and Kairi,) one who was brought there and ended up facilitating the rest of the series, almost certainly unintentionally by the person who did so (Ven, allowing him to connect to baby Sora, and ultimately allowing Sora to be… Sora, thanks Xehanort,) and then Terra and Aqua were both drawn to it somewhat randomly (which connected them to Sora and Riku, and set Riku up to inherit Terra’s Keyblade.) Yeah, there’s something going on with Destiny Islands, particularly given the name. Something about that world is drawing people to their destinies, I suppose?

Remember that when you travel through time, you’re body is stripped away from your heart, leaving heart as the only thing that travels through time. What if that Luxu made Brain’s heart travel through time, where his medium, being the hat, would reconstruct his body, and that Luxu took the body that Brain left behind as his new vessel?

I didn't understand the whole Luxu-Brain thing, so I investigated a little and I went back to the Secret Reports in KH3. The last 2 are written by Luxu and the 12th report explains how he bequeathed the Gazing Eye to one of the Union Leaders, and Luxu himself starts the process of changing from vessel to vessel until Xehanort comes and the Gazing Eye returns to him. So what I think this means is that Luxu didn't possess Brain, rather Brain is the first keyblade wielder to own the Gazing Eye after Luxu. It does make sense because Brain ended up in Scala ad Calum and that's where the Gazing Eye ended up in its walls

I feel as if this game’s FULL story was released before KH3, the impact of that game would have definitely been more of a gut punch than it already is. As for the ending, I feel as if now that we know of the power of waking and the new info on the dream eater origins, it’s possible those two could be related as it made me think back to the Riku vs Dark Ventus armor fight, as he saved Sora’s sleeping heart while using the power of waking. So it’s possible some characters (maybe Strellitzia) who dies with a dream eater in her arms, maybe she became a dream eater version (with the white robe and everything) that Lauriam now complete, can now save using this power as Chirithy explains most keyblade wielders (except Sora) know the power of waking already, or at least Riku knew about it xD

It makes so much sense now, how Xemnas said he chose Larxene and Marluxia, he knew them subconsciously..... but then there are the other 2- Demyx and Luxord, he said he chose them too, even before Marluxia and Larxene. Even reincarnation is a bit far fetched, since how would Xemnes recognize them if they don't have the same face. Luxords actions surely put him on a similar path with Brain, both wanting to save their worlds people from certain doom by doing something in another world, Luxord being suspicious of Xigbar. But in that case, what do Demyx and Ephemer share, Ephemer built a new world after his one ended, this makes no sense for Demyx..... unless he comes from the future, being the thing that remains after both quadratum and our world ended, but why is he here? Makes sense only if the world hasn't ended jet or he ran away to rather then building a new world he decided to come to the past to live out his days here. I agree. I've noticed that the more the story goes on, the less I really care. I mostly felt nothing from all of these reveals, and it pains me because I was such a huge fan of the series after being a skeptic for the longest time. Kingdom Hearts has basically become a mockery of itself. It's become a giant mess of retcons, contrivances, and poor or even outright negative character development (remember in KH1 and CoM when Sora was actually a cool, relatable, down-to-earth protagonist with believable quirks and flaws instead of Generic Shonen Hero No. 36245.8a?). KH1 is still the best game in the series to me. It has a real purity and sophistication to it that the rest of the series lacks. Its plot is simple and straightforward but deep, the story's pacing is really good, and the Disney and Final Fantasy elements are actually fully integrated into the plot. Also, Ansem is the best villain. He's the only one who actually got things done and proactively moved the plot forward. He actually destroyed worlds, killed people left and right, and unleashed a gargantuan Heartless onslaught upon the entire Realm of Light all while manipulating the Disney Villains into doing his bidding. On a final note, I will say that I'm sort of interested in the MoM's plot, but A) I wish they would hurry up and cut to the chase already and B) it's clear that Nomura is just using the series now as an excuse to make the games Square said he couldn't make.

I still think the Darkness that Sora met inside Ven during Re:Mind is something different and not Vanitas. That scene just seemed too weird for it to actually be Vanitas. 🤔🤷

My head canon is that the darkness that Sora talked to is the one that got left behind in the real Daybreak Town, the one who guided Maleficent back to kh2.

My running theory is that Luxu took Brains body, and sent his heart into the future to be reformed in Scala. Meanwhile Luxu may pass his keyblade on to Ephemera, after the destruction of Daybreak town and around the time of Scala's formation

@KZbin-GJ Yeah I'm thinking that might have been what happened too. Although I think it could have been that what Luxu meant by passing on his Keyblade to one of the union leaders was that he took Brain's body, so now Luxu as Brain wields No name. It's a dark way of interpreting it, and a bit of a strech but it could have been what happened.

@@ajfalcon7854 While I've seen that idea thrown out, I don't really think that's what happened, the secret reports on KH3 does specifically say that Luxu is keybladeless after passing No name on. So him taking Brains body can't also be him passing on the keyblade

@@artist-gj Then yeah, I think it is more likely that he passed no name on to Ephemer after Scala was built. The only problem with that is the statue in the final cutscene shows Ephemer with Master defender, but Ephemer could have received no name after that statue was built.
