Huh? It’s literally the highest rated game of the year on Metacritic by both Critic and User scores. The only game I thought stood a chance against Astrobot on there was Metaphor and Shadow of the Erdtree. It was well confirmed to be the front runner for GOTY by many publications

And 3D platformers don't have to be childish or colorful. Vexx and Jak 2 are a lot more edgy and have a real plot going on while still being very fun. My point being that you can make a mature 3D platformer, it doesn't have to automatically be a kid's game just because of the genre its in.

I still gotta play astrobot, but in all honesty; in similar fashion to why you made this video. I'm very happy it won game of the year. The AAA space really needs overhauled imo. So many AAA games that have come out the past decade , outside of having insanely large budgets and development times, have released seemingly partly unfinished. Or where the last 25-50% of the title feels insanely rushed. I think most people would agree that we'd rather have a really fun video game with well constructed elements(narrative or other) that is graphically lower quality or more stylized. FF7Rebirth was my personal game of the year, but for the longevity of the gaming industry and how its influenced, very happy astrobot won.

Like they said Nintendo set the standard for platforming with Super Mario Bros. which they were inspired and influenced by. Hopefully there is a resurgence in the coming years, in the meantime even if you don’t have a PS5 there are various other platformers available like for example Rayman.

I'm so happy a platformer like Astro bot won game of the year he's a very cool and cute new mascot character for Sony which I'm hoping inspires the other companies to make mascots of their own so they can have stronger individual identities. I think a big draw of Astro bot is that it's not too long it's only like 10 hours max which gives it better replayability than longer games because it's not too big a time investment I hope we get more awesome games like this. The dualsense is already 100 percent functional on PC. It's the first thing they did when they started their PC initiative. Also even though Astro Bot uses its features more than most games, the dualsense features really just amount to motion controls and context sensitive vibration techniques that even something like the Switch's controllers can pull off the same way.

I feel like the exclusivity for playstation pushes down not only this game but all the others that are on playstation only. Not everyone can afford a PS5, especially with how little you can do with it ever since its launch. Otherwise, I do think Astrobot is a great title and stands on its own feet quite well. It's a shame, and you can see how it affected companies like square enix in the past, to the point they had to call the end of exclusivity deals after ff16 and ff7r undersold to their expectations. Personally speaking, I think these companies should focus on being publishers first, and let their games spread, even on pc. Especially nintendo. Granted, you don't have to have a great understanding of how these companies operate to know they're holding it back because they want to sell consoles, but you have to wonder in the long run whether it's really all that smart cutting off their games from pc players, in terms of both sales and exposure. Also, I'll go as far as to say that, as much as people compare astro bot to other similar titles like mario odyssey or sunshine, we have to remember that nintendo usually holds itself back in terms of how much they -could- do with a game, and people have been complaining from the lack of major leaps in innovation in their titles for a while, now, whereas team asobi seems to just have wanted to make the best product they could in terms of features and fun. (And unrelated, I was jamming to that crash 3 track way too much. :P)

GOTY is the reason to buy new console, not to justify your financial status. If Zelda BOTW didn't win GOTY, people wouldn't care much for nintendo Switch. You need games to sell consoles otherwise look at XSX still stuck at less than 35M units and PS5 is over 65M and switch over 125M (more than Xbox One in 4 less years).

Wukong was an awful Souls-inspired game that was stupidly easy and aimed at the mega casuals with how many abilities they give you to negate damage. Metaphor I'm in the middle of playing atm but so far it's just medieval steampunk Persona 5, and P5 was the worst game of the series. Maybe it gets better later but as of where I'm at in it currently it is not GOTY worthy. FF7 Rebirth I haven't played yet (will when it hits PC) but as much as I loved Remake, I'm not delusional enough to ignore the massive hate-wave that soon-to-be-trio of games has garnered for going so far off the rails. And Balatro...well, Balatro is a joke that shouldn't have even made the list. Astro Bot won by default because every other game on the list has something fundamentally wrong with it. I haven't even played it since I don't have a PS5 and even I can tell it's a great game made with a lot of love and respect for the genre.
