How Superior is the Evercade EXP Vs the Evercade Handheld?

Overall I think the EXP looks better in every way, except the flat white all around. It makes me think prototype a bit. Maybe some shade of light gray on the buttons would get me past that. But everyone's got a preference right? Happy 2023!

I don't have either of them but do prefer the look of the old one. I think they should have replicated the button colours on the new one. They would stand out more than have white controls on a white console. I would like to have seen a rubber seal for the usb port especially as it is on top. Sure it is a small thing and might come off and get lost but I hate uncovered usb ports on top of devices. £130 is too much for me but would be interested if it went under £100.

I agree, I like the newer features as far as the button arrangements and the increased memory and screen quality to name a few for the EXP, but yeah it does look like every other modern handheld that plays retro games, the original handheld even though it is flawed from some of the reviews I've heard on it, aesthetically I prefer it over the EXP, it looks like a true retro handheld with modern sensibilities in terms of portability.

@@TheGebs24 The Oliver Twins Collection. I loved playing Dizzy as a kid on the Spectrum. Luckily Amazon is still selling some of the legacy carts that are not available on the Evercade site

I bought the og evercade and the vs for about 170€ combined. I also bought aneverSD cartridge allowing me to put in a 128gb sd card and then have a huge amount of emulated games on that. It runs all nes, snes, mega drive and gameboy games flawless. It even runs final fantasy 7 like a dream. None of this works on the EXP and it is 165€ on top of that. I have a really hard time justifying the purchase in all honesty. Did just order the Taito super pocket for the form factor and the fact it cost 65€ tho. Edit: just found your videos and love them, keep it up.

they should make an evercade that looks like the original one has the big screen size of the original but has a ips screen and just overall upgrade it then it would be so perfect! and maybe use the buttons of the exp BUT have them colorful

Hot take here, but when I think a handheld, I think something that can fit in my pocket, yet most modern handhelds don't travel as well. The EXP certainly looks like it travels better than any model Switch (I'd like to see it side-by-side with a Lite), but the original actually looks like a return to a proper-sized device, not seen since the 3DS and Vita. Otherwise though, the EXP looks to be superior in most categories.

I still love the retro feel and look of the original, but hands down the exp is a massive upgrade and a joy to play. Tate mode is good however my aging thumbs can't take the awkward play position for too long.

The exp has one flaw. No turbo button, or the option for one which could be fixed with an update.

@@darrengreenacre1142 not just talking about the system itself. There is no option for turbo in the option menu when playing the capcom, irem, and toaplan games. You have no choice than to consistently hit the button while playing.

Playing tate games in hori mode is not giving you any real estate for the game to breath. Most of the screen is taken up by graphic art and score data. When you play tate it's a true arcade experience and the experience isn't zoomed out. If you have Namco museum on ps1 you should try it out properly. Playing a handheld in tate isn't giving you the right experience.

It's an unfair comparison if you don't judge the two devices on build quality and quality control. You realize we've seen the picture of all the many different EXP problems, right? Nobody wants to but a headache and it sound like you want a switch.

The new all white is a bit of a lazy design tbh i prefer the older design also being this is a retro console why would you want a crisp ips display its not like the older games benefit from that they were crt tvs back then
