How's the matte surface? I really prefer the smooth shiny surfaces of the Intuous, but I'm looking for something less expensive.

I really like the surface, it doesn't cause any resistance for the pen. Been a couple of years and I'm still using it on the go when I'm traveling. It's been a great companion so far.

@@TheGeekArtist Nice one. I use it for work about 40 hours a week for Photoshop but also general navigation as well, so less resistance is good, as I find the really textured matte surfaces can be fatiguing over time.

Honestly, I've been using this tab for 3 years now when I'm on the go. And it doesn't get any better than this. The price point is also on the lower end compared to it's competitors like Wacom.

I still don't understand what's great about tablets. When I draw, I need to be exactly where I picked up my stylus. And with tablets you cannot see where your stylus is on screen. How does anyone draw on these?

Is you remark based on the difference between a basic pen tablet and a display tablet? If so then I understand what you mean, when someone is shifting from traditional to digital medium, it can be a bit jarring and uncomfortable at first using the basic non display tablets. But we human beings are incredible creatures when it comes to learning and adapting. That discomfort vanishes after a few days if practicing and you get used to it because you develop a muscle memory. It becomes a new normal. I'm use to display tabs which is kinda similar to directly drawing on paper. I don't have to look at a different screen while I'm drawing on a different surface. I'm looking at the screen im directly drawing on. Now for me to draw on a basic pen tab will again be difficult for a few days but I'll again get used to it. That's how it goes really. But if you're remark is based on the difference between a mouse and tablets in general, I have nothing to add because I don't see any major advantages that a mice has over a tablet when it comes to drawing. Tablet wins any day.

Just like with everything new, practice. With tablets, you gain the benefit of less chance of having neck pains since for the most part, you're staring straight at your monitor. In the end of the day it's all about preference. If developing hand eye coordination using a drawing tablet is hard for you, then stick to onscreen displays.

Often artists need to work on a better, more accurate screen than those offered by screen tablets, but basically you just get used to it, and it's actually easier in many ways as you don't have a hand in the way of what you're drawing.
