Great interview with the golden rod himself. It’s kinda sad they never really gave him credit until years later. I definitely agree about Leia in Rouge One. I said they same thing, everyone knew it was her from the back!

Daniels is a well documented egotistical nightmare. He treated Kenny like garbage and sees himself as a legend in his own lifetime, instead of a skinny man who's worn a plastic costume to play make-believe all these years. He needs to get over himself.

I met Kenny at comicon NEC once (with his family at a cafe outside the event).. Lovely bloke, not least because i was conscious of just how horrible his co-star had been to him. Daniels is an overrated prima donna who should shut up and have some appreciation of just how lucky he has been.

@@ConkerKing I saw that UK show years ago *Just Lee Collins: Bring back Star Wars.* Where this comedian (Collins) meets with members of the cast to ask them to a reunion. When he spoke to Kenny Baker, Kenny said he would up for it, but only if Anthony Daniels wasn't going to be there. He spoke about the way Daniels treated him. Even saying that he didn't offer him any condolonces when all of the of the other cast had, on the passing of his wife. My friend who met him, called him *"a pompus pr@ck"* and *"a legend in his own mind"*

Let's put this into perspective. Harrison, Mark & Carrie were the stars. Chewbacca, as with R2D2, C3PO and Wicket, were the secondary characters who LATER ON became central because of the FANS, not because of the storyline. Also Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker were treated exactly the same way as Anthony Daniels and yet not a twitter about their disgruntlement, if indeed they had any, because I IMAGINE THEIR egos weren't so inflated as to demand the same treatment as the stars of the film. I laugh each time Anthony Daniels would say he fought for C3PO, not for himself. Pahleeease! Another bit of perspective. R2D2 was a far more important CHARACTER than C3PO because he had a vitally important message that needed to be delivered to set everything in motion. Anthony Daniels has admitted his beef with Kenny Baker stemmed from Kenny Baker wanting to inject his own personality onto a scene and not stick to the script. Excuse me? Script? R2D2 had a script? With words? Seriously? Lastly, having said all that, I could be biased because of Anthony Daniel's unforgiving infamous disgusting treatment of Kenny Baker. All in all, all I see is a pompous, self-important, arrogant, insecure, jealous pr*ck who will only play nice if he gets what he wants when he demands it or when he's pimping a book. You don't have to say much to Anthony Daniels to get a good ten minutes of him blabbing on about his self-important self. He just loves every minute of every spotlight no mater how big or small, just so long as it's on him. The epitome of shallow Hollywood. Well, now that I have that off my chest perhaps I might find Anthony Daniels a bit more tolerable to watch in future......................... I won't be holding my breath on that bit of hope
@johnnyw525

No, let's put your bizarro rant into perspective. Kenny Baker, Peter Mayhew and David Prowse didn't have any lines! They were MUTE performers in special effects outfits. And Baker and Prowse DID complain about how they were treated on Star Wars. It's insane that you compare people without lines with what Daniels did. I'm not saying mime performers aren't real artists, but seriously... what could Kenny Baker do? He was so restricted. Bang his body against the inside of the trash can and whirl the dome. Even Mayhew couldn't do that much in his costume, and he was told from the outset that his role was of a MIME only, so he knew he wasn't going to get much recognition. Daniels was a serious actor who was hired for a central role. He brought his character to life with a memorable performance, and he was treated like a special effect. Literally like the creation of a special effects team. Yes, C-3P0 wasn't the star of the movie, but he was easily as important as Lando. Except he wasn't invited to any of the events. He was played by other people in his costume. Yet it was his specific body movements. His specific voice. That brought that character to life. That made him memorable. It's literally like having a "Gollum" character appear at promotional events played by someone other than Andy Serkis (if Rings had been made before CGI). These days actors like Serkis and Peter Jackson have fought hard to give performers recognition, even if they are hidden behind special effects. They even went so far as to lobby to get him an Academy Award to try and change this perception. Go listen to an interview with Serkis where he talks about the importance of saying "performance capture" instead of "motion capture". Daniels was a victim of old Hollywood thinking, and I completely understand why he felt annoyed at being compared to someone banging around inside a trash can. Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford would have felt exactly the same.

@@johnnyw525You can't speak logic to loons. As you accurately point out, Daniels was an ACTOR giving an actual full performance in the movies. He wasn't simply a mannequin for a plastic suit. He was a fully-featured, speaking character. Big difference between that and fitting into a garbage can to rock it around. But, logic eludes the smooth-brained.

Daniels has a big ego but the reality is that the first movie is largely told from the perspective of the droids. This gets forgotten as they gradually get pushed to the side. As far as screen time and lines go, C3Po is one of the main characters of the original film. I saw it in the cinema when it was released, I can tell you that's how we saw it. For the last 6 films he's mostly decoration.

I have never heard anybody that I personally know who ever worked with him say something positive. I gather that he wants to be treated like Olivier. Sadly, he's a Muppet, except hand puppets have more nuance. He is a costume. That's all. He can hardly move in it! Anybody with a gift of mimic could have done his job after Episode IV. I don't why they all put up with him.. Waddling around in a tin man costume for half a century isn't oncology, queen.

Thank you for hosting this excellent interview. The interview with Anthony Carboni was really awful, and I think Anthony Daniels was annoyed by him. It wound up turning into Anthony Daniels interviewing Anthony Daniels, which was great by itself. It was nice to hear a perspective that I have not heard before, and a good interviewer pulls that out after doing his homework. Well done. For the record, you should be hosting The Star Wars Show instead of Carboni. Responding to Anthony, I think as a kid there was something magical about seeing C-3PO in random things like Sesame Street and Muppets instead of seeing Anthony Daniels out of costume. I'm glad he stuck with it, even after being somewhat ignored in TFA and TLJ. "Taking one last look at my friends" . . . that line seems to be directed towards his fans that have followed C-3PO's story, instead of the characters around him. We heard the message. I haven't seen the show yet, so please no spoilers.

I like C3P0 but omg is Anthony Daniels up himself 🙄 you're not remotely close to being the biggest part of the 1st star wars. Luke clocks in at 46 minutes and 32 seconds. Well over 20 minutes more. Even R2D2 has more screen time! Get over yourself. Even most the actors have said at points how they found you pretentious.

George Lucas' first idea of star war was told from the prospective of the two droids. But for the ordinance to get invested into the characters the actor must be invested them first, in fact many actors dont break their character until the film has rapped. This is known as method acting and was the same technique Heath Ledger used when playing the Joke and they say he had trouble letting go after and this could be one of the reasons about his death.

I met Anthony (along with Kenny, Dave and Peter and other supporting players) back in the 90's before Episode 1 came out. All great experiences but Anthony was signing alone on a different day whereas all the others were together at big events. It was a different meeting than the others as he was quite hurried and mithered with it all to a degree, much like C-3PO gets annoyed with R2-D2, so Anthony it seemed, gets annoyed with people quite easily. I always loved R2-D2 & C-3PO together but I felt Anthony was at his best when directed in his costume with a script to stick to.

Sorry but delusional and so up himself. According to Kenny, he was horrid and looked down his nose at a fellow actor no less enshrouded in plastic. He played the part well and that should never be forgotten but I think the fact he is known for nothing else says much. Kenny in contrast is less known for Star Wars than the astonishing and far less simplistic cartoon good v evil adventure, namely Time Bandits. OK, Kenny may have had some issues himself, but his claims do kinda align to what we see. The guy is self agrandiousing far beyond reason and would be fine were it not that as part of that if Kenny was correct, he did this not merely manifest as painting himself as wonderful but by painting others as inferior. BUT! He speaks well. I like his work, but he has yet to convince me he is not everything his critics suggest. I hope one day he shall do so. I was genuinely pleased to see a recent interview where he more than briefly mentioned others that made his performance possible and many being off screen specialists. He made a huge point of doing so, albeit never mentioning Kenny. I also adored that he took pains to point out how much the stunt performers are core to such films and how he did what he could to get them recognised for academy awards. SO! My conclusion.. To Anthony, I think you can be a bit of a knob but I also think you have a really good heart (despite the evidence! Sorry had to add that but not wholly meant). Just stop being some kind of diva and no, you are neither Bassey nor Olivier. You did a good job shrouded in a tonne of plastic that denied you any visual expression that skilled actors rely upon, and yet imparted extraordinary expression into that character. I think that is often missed. That is genius and no average actor could have done that. The identical script could have resulted in something very difference with a lesser talent. The lack of a credit on the poster of the first film definitely sucks and maybe a tad why one woukd mow be pushy for recognition. You should rightly be proud, but I sense you also want to be perceived as 'class' and class is to dismiss achievement and let others protest at your modestly not be your biggest fan! Reign it in a bit dude and I will be the first to buy you a drink.
