Had to look up Fagus. Beech trees? Autumn gold leaves? Didn’t realize they were native to Tasmania. Are some of the lakes you pass over stocked with fish? Wilderness fishing must be incredible.

Yes, all hydro lakes are stocked with trout

All of the larger natural lakes on the Central Plateau are also stocked with trout. Fly fishing is extremely popular (in the permitted season).

The Cradle Mountain area consists of a lower basement of Proterozoic quartzites, overlain by a thin horizontal sequence of Permian sediments, which are in turn overlain by intrusive Jurassic dolerite (diabase). The major peaks of this area all consist of dark Jurassic dolerite which has well-developed columnar jointing. All this was sculptured by Ice Age glaciation...
