I started playing guitar around 3 years ago. My best friend was shipped off to join the army, and he's an excellent guitar player. It was around Christmas, and he was leaving at the beginning of the new year, so I decided to do some digging to get him a good guitar-related gift for Christmas. I knew nothing about guitar and found That Pedal Show and was like, "Wait, people get their sound through pedals?" I had no idea. I was implying to my buddy that I wanted to get a guitar, but I was really trying to pry him to see what he liked so I could figure out what I could get him. Cut to Christmas time and watching hours of TPS and researching a ton of guitar stuff, we went to exchange gifts, and he surprised me with a guitar, an Ibanez GIO. I was shocked, and he was laughing because he really thought I wanted to play guitar. He'd known I tried playing when I was a kid but gave up. So when I got my guitar, I said, " Well shit, I guess I need to start again." Cut to 3 years later, and I absolutely love guitar more than any other interest I have. It has taken over my life in the best way possible. TPS basically changed my life, and now I know more about guitar gear than my buddy, and I may know too much. Thanks, guys; you genuinely have taught me so much and are always a source of joy when I need it. -Thomas

I've being meaning to say this many times. I LOVE your videos, all of them, but this one has the best sound. Use this mic system to record and do your videos from now on. Something is better. You should not silence the ambient, like you do now in your more recent videos. The interaction with the room makes all the difference to hear the details of the sound. It is more like we are in the room with you. When you only captured the sound directly from the amp and mute everything else, you kill the subtleties. This video is not 100% like that, but is better then ever. Believe me, we can here all the changes in tone and volume and everything else when the sound is recorded not directed from the amp. Thank you guys for such great videos.

Recently got a Big Sky - how many freaking versions of Reverb does one need? Completely blows away any built in verb but a bit overwhelming. Hard to connect with Strymon stuff as it’s like playing a computer.
@capferrat2777 жыл бұрын
Another thing about the Big Sky that isn't highlighted quite enough is that it isn't just a great guitar reverb. It's a studio grade reverb for just about any application. I've used it on vocals, drums and especially keyboards and synths and it sounds unreal. This is a demo I did of just a Roland JX3P analog synth and a Big Sky. There are also a few guitar swells here and there. Gives you an idea of just how amazing this pedal is. soundcloud.com/capferrat/eq2

'Good tone' is a highly subjective matter and involves so many variables that the best answer is to just experiment, experiment, and experiment, until you find what works best for you. Daniel's preferences work best for him. Michael Landau and Scott Henderson use both their front end (and) effects loop - also with great results. Find your own tone.

+Daniel TheGigRig so if you're using an overdrive to push the front end of an amp, then putting a reverb in between, does that not not drive your preamp with a reverby signal (= mud + nastyness)?
@Johnny66667 жыл бұрын
Their amps are set largely clean and flat here, with drive coming from (in this video) the King of Tone pedal. If there was also significant drive coming from the amp itself, the sound picture of King of Tone + BigSky would be distorted as it entered the preamp. So yeah, that would be nasty (if unintended). They're only going for a mildly snappy tone here, with the King of Tone providing the drive before the reverb, with the amps confined to largely reproducing that combination with little overt coloration. An important thing to note with demos of the Big Sky (and reverb pedals generally): they mostly emphasize clean tones, because reverb through the front of a high gain amp isn't typically pleasant. That said, some players like to drive their delays (and reverb) through the front of an amp for specific tones, but that's more the exception that reinforces the rule. The BigSky is likely, for most guitar players, overkill. It works well for ambient and experimental noodling, but for basic shaping of a guitar in the context of a band it's likely to be misused.

You guys should consider doing an episode on just Reverb. Comparing the Big Sky, many of the other modern great sounding reverbs, and then compare it with a Fender Reverb tank and then just the Reverb that is in a Fender Amplifier. I have a great marshall style tube amp with no reverb and would love to know what I should plug into the effects loop.
@andrebrito51257 жыл бұрын
I saw this episode and freaked our. I have two guitars. Strat and Tele. My drive is a king of tone and my reverb is a big sky. I play through an ac15. But I can't get nearly as good of tone as this video. Especially using the same settings on the king of tone when switching between guitars

Hey Daniel, your videos are great! Just wanted to know, are you totally opposed to FX loops? I know you use a loop switcher, but if someone wasn't using one, would it be better to use the FX loop? Basically, to avoid as much signal degradation as possible.
