Fantastic, i've done a number of projects in Zambia and have been looking at do something similar with motorbikes in some of the rural clinics in Zambia. The bike your reviewing certainly catches my attention. Well done for being an ambassador of such a worthy course. Think i may have had a chat with that organisation last year at the NEC bike show

I had just about all the Yamaha Enduro models in the seventies like AT 1 , DT 1 , RT 1 , JT 1 etc. I currently am restoring a 2001 YZ 426. I ride a Beta 300 rr now but have several other dirt bikes. Great humanitarian work, thanks to all involved! P.S. Great for finishing Dakar!

Thanks for the video and congrats on your Dakar conquest! Watching this video reminded me of my first bike which was a 1972 Yamaha LT2 100. Lots of similarities between that old Yamaha and this new AG100. I would definitely love to have an AG100 if they sold them here in the states. I think it would be a good bike to help teach my granddaughters how to ride...safe and indestructible!

That bike is based on the 1972 Yamaha AT 125/ CT 175 with some updates, and a displacement change of course. 👍 It looks like they mixed the engine from the 72/73 Enduro with the frame from the 1974 100 which had different cases, but a similar exhaust routing. Interesting..... 🤔

The closely related RX100 was launched in India around mid 1980s and was a runaway hit and achieved cult status. Due to tightening of emission norms, Yamaha followed this up with the RXG and RX135 (with a catalytic converter on the exhaust) and eventually phased them out in mid 2000s. There are literally thousands of survivors and they are built so tough, it's very difficult to kill these bikes.

Great bike, and good thinking to standardise on one simple model. I think you were a bit optimistic with regards to it's power output. 18 hp from a simple 100cc single? I Googled the specs on this bike. It appears to be about 8.0 to 8.5 hp (6.2 to 6.3 kw).
@chrishart8548Ай бұрын
A 125 air cooled single 2 stroke can barely make 16hp. It's all about the heat more power more heat. It means 2 strokes in air cooled form can't make much more power 5han 4 stoke

If you put down both kick stands can you get a wheel off the ground to change a flat tire or lube the chain? I like the chain guard. It does not have engine oil. The engine and transmission are separate. You were checking the transmission oil. The Two stroke oil from the tank with the side window in it feeds to a pump that injects the needed two stroke oil into critical parts of the engine as needed. Yamaha has been doing that since about 1963. It would be more fun to ride than a Honda Cub Trail 125 I suppose .

Excellent bike for the purpose! Extremely simple and can take endless abuse with minimal maintenance. It is how all the small bikes from Japan were in the early '70's. In fact it is the same bike... But it works and is very affordable. My Yamaha TW200 is somewhat similar, very basic and simple, a low speed work and play bike. Many riders who can have multiple bikes have, or should have, a basic, small, light, and simple trail bike. They are great buddy bikes, learner bikes, explorer bikes, and low speed adventure bikes where you are riding to see places, not riding fast and only seeing the trail ahead.

Great video! Just some notes: It has only 8 horse powers, not 18! I got confused by the ”1 liter silencer”, but I assume it is due to a strange editing of the video? Or do they specify the volume of the exhaust parts? 😮 The “engine oil” is actually the transmission/gearbox-oil on a two stroke bike. The two stroke oil IS the engine oil. Then again - what is an engine? I suppose you can call the clutch and gearbox “parts of the engine” on a block-motor. I love small motorcycles. I have both a few old (1976) Monkeys, a very modificated (smallified) NX650 and my main drive these days is a heavily “adventure-modified” CB300r (high exhaust, high handlebars, skid plate…). I use it for my ”mainly tarmac-traveling adventures”, which of coarse always also includes some grovel… 😆 Just came back from a Sweden - Skåne - Germany(nürburgring/nordsleife) - Luxembourg - Belgium - France - Spain - Portugal - Spain - Gran Canaria - Tenerife Spain - Gibraltar - Ceute - Spain - Andorra - France(riviera) - Monaco - Italy - Austria - Germany(eagles nest) - Austria(brenner) - Czech Republic - Poland and then ferry to Stockholm - trip! >11000 km of fun! Even though I’m slightly taller than you, about 172, my legs are much shorter than yours. I measure them to 26,8” inseam (68 cm). So I like small bikes! My ”adventure-modified” CB300r (now a NX300? Or is it a CB300x?🤔) is by the way also extremely efficient. 0,26 liter per swedish mil = 2.6 liter/100 km = 38.5 km/liter = 90.5 mpg(us) = 108.6 mpg(uk). About the same as the ag100! And I have 31 hp instead of 8… And with my 9.8 liter fuel tank + a home made 5.4 liter camel-tank (self fueling) I can go 580 km between fuel stops! All that said - I’m love it if you would do a video about the Yamaha ag200! I believe it is even more of a work horse than the ag100. I’d love to testdrive one, but we don’t have it in Sweden, so a review from you would be great!

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback and sharing your thoughts! You're absolutely right about the horsepower-it actually varies by model year. The original 1979 model had around 18 HP, which I must have mistakenly referenced, but the later versions, like the 2007 model, produce about 8.5 HP. Thanks for catching that! And good catch on the "1-liter silencer"-that was indeed an editing glitch. As for the two-stroke oil, you’re spot on! On a two-stroke bike, the "engine oil" is indeed for the gearbox, and the two-stroke oil is what lubricates the engine. It sounds like you have some fantastic bikes, and your modified CB300r sounds like a proper adventure machine! That 11,000 km trip across Europe must have been amazing. The fuel efficiency and range you've achieved with your setup are impressive, especially with that homemade camel tank! I'll definitely consider reviewing the AG200. I agree, it would be great to showcase it as it’s indeed a workhorse of a bike. Thanks again for the support and sharing your adventures-keep riding and enjoying those small but mighty bikes!
