I'm still healing from my Aphogee treatment. It did however prompt me to do a lot of research, and for the first time I have identified my hair type lol. So, I have low porosity hair, fine hair, high density (although, I am starting to see the front of my hair becoming less dense at age 40) . I also did some more research and if you have already shared this information, forgive me for being repetitive. So low porosity hair loves heat because it raises the cuticles and the moisture can get to the actual hair shaft. So if using oils, warm them up, and when using deep conditioners, put on either a heated cap or just a plastic cap to keep in the heat your head naturally produces. I also learned that the whole rinse with cold water at the end of your shower thing does us no good lol. As for proteins, I read that the best types of proteins are hydrolyzed proteins. So hydrolyzed silk, wheat, soy, whatever it may be, are able to penetrate into the hair shaft. So it's not necessarily that anyone is protein sensitive, it's just that when you have low porosity hair, the protein sits on top of the hair, rather than getting under the cuticles to the hair shaft. So if you want to avoid breakage and protein overload, you can incorporate hydrolyzed proteins in your styling products. With that said, make sure you have some type of deep conditioning routine in your week to avoid making your hair dry and brittle. Again, balance is key. I've made so many of these mistakes and thought I just had to train my hair or force it to conform, but it was just a matter of not knowing what my hair type is. In retrospect, I now get why so many things used to work well for me and so many others did not, but it was just that I was so much younger and lacked the knowledge, and youtube and youtube gurus, to guide me. God bless the internet and people like you who do so much research for those of us who have such little time. Takes the guess work out of it. :)

I have the same hair type, and I think what happened to me is all of the products I used to use, changed their formulas and I just carried on using them not understanding why my hair was so dry and breaking off. I used to use Joico way back in the day, and it was just the K-PAK line that had protein in it, but now it's in all of their products. I really miss some of the products I used to use back in the day. I think it's marketing, people equate protein with hair being 'strong' and many manufacturers have just gone too far with it!

I used clarifying shampoo and baking soda, no conditioner. When my hair was dry I put a castor oil and jojoba oil mask for 10hrs then washed it again with clarifying shampoo but outside. I did not wash it for 2 days and I'm someone who absolutely has to wash my hair everyday but I'm not risking it to be worse. If everything else I'm going to do goes good I'll update the rest of this comment ETA: 2 MORE DAYS OF OIL MASKS AND ABSOLUTELY NO MORE KERATIN PRODUCTS IN MY HAIR DID THE TRICK. 🥲 ALSO, STAYED AWAY FROM THE HAIR DRUER AS A STRAIGHTNER

Can you tell us which products you used. Everyone talks about protein overload and water fatigue but never mention the products that helped Them recover. Can you do a video regarding products from shampoo, deep conditioner, conditioner, leave in, cream, gel. That would be extremely helpful!
@hardenzielig4 жыл бұрын
Hi STacy, you're right, a lot of people are talking about overloads, especially in CG groups. I've been around in a group like that, AND I've read and studied as well to find out what's really going on . (diy study) In my opinion a lot of groups/curly's are giving the followers a too "one-sided" advise on what to do and 'rules' to follow. Hair of a person with coarse virgin hair has total different needs rather than hair that's more 'fine' and colour treated for example... and it has almost nothing to do with curl pattern.. it has everything to do with the state and needs of the hair. That being said... a lot of people (not everybody of course) make the following mistake: the do too much for the hair while thinking it's good... too much conditioning agents in everything from shampoo (cowash) , leave-in, refresh, and then a mask that's may be too heavy or used too often, or using just hydrating products while the hair is not low porosity (because high porosity can absorb moisture easily itself) or not clarify enough temporarily or not correct.... and then they end up with a sort of 'hygral fatigue' and then they say 'use protein' because that will fix it.... Yes, that's correct, but actually they had to change their routine to provide coming to that point... but they go on just the way they did before. Hygral fatigue can be fixed with protein, but it's so much better to to prevent getting hygral fatigue by cutting down all those washes, rinses, conditioning agents etcetera.... Of course not for everybody but for the persons who struggle with this. And that's the same with proteïn overload... not all hair needs extra protein, especially not when it's virgin hair or a bit coarser hair ... but when someone has colour treated hair or hair that suffers from heat damage... thát type of hair needs and loves more protein. Not that you have to use all your products with protein, but when you have a few that contain protein it's fine.... but remember: by knowing this you can choose products for colour treated hair (while this type needs a bit more protein so it contains protein...of course take a look at the label and look for 'hydrolized x.. silk, keratin, wheat) or products for damaged hair, they contain also protein. On the other hand 'hydrating' products might contain less or even none.... there are exeptions but it'sa guid line.

Everyone says to tell if your hair is in protein overload look for stiff, dry, scratchy hair. Your hair will break easily. Isn’t that the same description of dry hair that needs moisture? How would I tell the difference?

I had the same problem till today I figured it out my hair is protein overload. First, my hair had wet frizz problem,so I thought my hair needs protein. 2weeks ago I’d started to make and apply diy protein hair mask( yoghurt +honey +olive oil) , yesterday was just the second time I applied the mask,but then my wet frizz hair started to get worse and my hair started to dry so fast even I applied much cream and oil. So today I realized my hair is protein overload and I think you should test protein mask or moisturizing mask to recognize which type you are like I’d done. Sorry for my English😅

So what is the difference between under moisturized hair and hair that is protein overloaded? In both situations wouldn't they be brittle dry and breaking? I guess what I mean to say is can your hair be under-moisturized and not protein overloaded at the same time?

I sometimes have areas of my hair that actually feel too soft (I mean it feels healthy to the touch & not bad) but I’ll see this on some pieces of hair that are underneath more in the back of head, but as I have my hair all forward I’ll touch the strands and they actually are on the straighter side. I always think maybe it’s having too much moisture. I don’t follow the CGM, and wash my hair every other day. I just can’t get it to look like you curly girls on here who look fabulous on day 5 or 6.

I ve been using olaplex no0 and no3 (technically they said that it s not a protein treatment but i see my hair getting worsw from it) so i stopped. I got a clarifying shampoo and some masks. How long should i focus on moisture and when should i start integrating protein again?
