Although I havnt bleached my hair in 4 yrs & most of it has been cut off, I am now re entering the color world to cover my grays with Goldwell Elumen, (semi permanent). I spent 2 years consistently in the ocean followed by 2 years of never being in the ocean. There’s so many variables to consider, I believe the chart would be very helpful.

On washday, my hair feels perfect imo. It's soft but not too soft, is shiny and the waves have bounce. But after refreshing on day two with a spray or gel my hair gets so dull and dry and just feels hard. Perhaps I should just refresh with some water and not use products on top of the products that I used on washday
@GenaMarie2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I try and only add product when refreshing on day 3-4. The key is to use a gel that can be reactivated with water

@StormyDay2 жыл бұрын
@Veronika Be I had the same issue bc my hair is fine. I use my refreshing products mixed in with water in a spray bottle. You have to tailor it to your personal needs, try a teaspoon in a 2 ounce spray bottle and add more product or water depending on your needs. I do it for both gel and styling cream depending on my needs that day, too much frizz I use gel. Too little moisture, I use cream, then use a light spray of my gel mixture on top of that. Make sure your gel has humectants, those polyquarts make all the difference and like Gena said, make sure your gel is water activated, as they will mix well with water.

My hair is definitely damaged. When I started to try wearing my hair wavy a couple months ago, I assumed I had healthy, virgin hair that is low porosity. As I experimented with refreshing by wetting my hair daily and scrunching, I noticed my waves just fell flat, especially at the bottom ends. My hair has been dull with lots of baby hairs sticking out, too, but I never realized why until I read about pH. I had been shapooing with Dr. Bronner's liquid castille soap for over a decade, not realizing the pH is 9 and that alkalinity strips hair of 18-MEA and opens the cuticles up to hygral fatigue with daily rewetting. Yikes! I am using Curlsmith Bond Curl Rehab Salve about monthly for about 30 minutes and then using The Strength products for protein. I am now learning about using coconut oils before shampooing to help prevent too much water from getting into the hair shaft and then shea butter after moisturizing to help lock in the moisture. I have not tried it yet, but it makes sense to try to keep the hair shaft from changing size so frequently and so much, and help prevent further breakage as it grows out. I get worried and confused about protein overload but I am glad you mentioned that that is pretty much only a problem if you use protein treatments, which I don't, so hopefully I am good with this routine for a while. I also have Curlsmith shine products for when I don't need as much rotein, but really don't know when to switch. Thank you for educating us through your personal hair journey. It's really great that you have so many situations documented as examples for us. I used to think hair is hair and unprocessed hair like mine is healthy as can be, but I am learning a lot!

Fabulous video, so much information packed in 26 minutes! I don’t know how you do it! My main problem is day three DRYNESS, frizz and tangling. The tangling is very bad. I’m about 18 months into the transition and my hair is long so it’s going to take a while. What I do notice is if you have damaged hair on your last 9 inches, it does affect your first 9 inches of newer growth, even though it is not damaged in the traditional way. It is affected bc it gets damaged by proxy. For example, if you have loads of tangles, even light pulling can damage new growth. So I can see why it takes so long for one’s hair to normalize. It’s not going to do that till a bit of time has passed after you cut off your last very damaged area. In the interim, I do notice that products that didn’t work for me in the beginning are working for me now, like the Featherlight Protein Crème, I disliked it at first but now I love it! Nothing takes away day 3 frizz like it does and also adds moisture. I use it in a spray bottle with water mixed in. I do this with many of my products for refreshing so as to incorporate water and not have buildup.

However, after this video, I really think my hair is damaged even though I've mostly been following CGM for several years now. I have a tendency of skipping conditioner because I have very thin, very fine hair and it weighs it down. That said, I'm going to conduct an experiment I use a very light conditioner on wash days (2x/week). I believe (at least to start) I need a heat protectant for use with my diffuser. I highly recommend fixing the hard water issue for long term hair health. Installing a water softener is the best investment and will save your appliances and other things in your home. If that is not an option like if you're renting or with budget, they do make hard water softener attachments for your showerhead that you have to add salt to reguluarly. A regular showerhead filter will not filter hard water, it need to have salt to soften it. In terms of the chelating shampoo, I would use it a couple times a month.

Did I miss your recommendations for over moisturized hair? I think I’ve watch this video 29 times. 😂

For years i have had oily spots right in the front strands of my hair and sometimes its better but normally its so oily that the whole front section is extremely oily and looks wel and I don't know how to fix it and the rest of my hair is never really oily unless i really need to wash my hair. Any suggestions?

Perhaps dry the Curlsmith Detox kit if you haven't already. It's designed to balance your scalp's microbiome, which can get thrown off and cause imbalances

@@GenaMarie thank you so much I will have to try that soon. Im trying to get a job currently so I will have to wait to get the whole kit but I will definitely try that!

How do you get a hard hold with a lightweight styler?
@GenaMarie2 жыл бұрын
Use something that has a thin consistency like the Curlsmith Soufflé or the Ouidad ACC Stronger Hold Gel that provide strong hold

Honestly, my hair doesn’t look bad after day 2, it’s just the underside of my hair that looks limp and doesn’t hold a curl. Oh Curly Godmother, what am I doing wrong?

I think my hair just needs a better owner. Give me all the right products, and I'll still mess it up. 😅

Thank you so much for this! I gave up on CG because I bought way too heavy products & had serious info overload 😂 I have 3a/3b, fine and low porosity and hope the curlsmith products will do the trick (or at least make it look less dry)

My ends are curlier than my top? What's that mean? Haha

Totally natural, or can be from buildup, your styling technique (or lack thereof) or too heavy of products. I have a video on this here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJykn2l5nqqZZ7s&pp=gAQBiAQB
