The first time I went to Piazzale Michelangelo it was a sweaty, August climb up the hill. The second time I made the trip, I took a bus. Definitely made the ascension easier! And back down in Oltrarno, art lovers MUST visit the Brancacci Chapel in Santa Maria del Carmine for the Massacio frescoes. An admission fee charged, and at last visit, reservations required. The birth of humanism in eclesiatic art.

This is a great video. I spent a month in Florence last April when my daughter was studying abroad there. I worked remotely and rented an AirBnB apartment only a block from the Arno, near the Uffizi gallery. Oltrarno quickly became one of my favorite places to go, and like you I spent many hours wandering around and taking in the incredible views. There's also a great area in Oltrarno north of the Ponte Vecchio that has a bunch of great bars, I discovered that my last night there and had a fantastic time. Can't wait to come back.

Your days as tour guides were not wasted. Nice job! One thing I learned in Tuscany in Rada at the Castello di Albola winery is that authentic Chianti Classico that has met the requirements for Chianti will always have a Black Rooster on the label. Originally the Black Rooster was a symbol of the Military League of Chianti. For the last 300 years it became more of a symbol of the region for wine in Chianti and certain requirements of grapes and purity before it can have the Black Rooster on the label to be certified Chianti Classico wine.

I've been enjoying your videos about Florence. A question for you: Would it be feasible to walk up through the Bardini Gardens in the afternoon and then walk over to the Piazzale Michelangelo, perhaps on the Via Belvedere, to watch the sun set over Florence? Or would it be better to make this into separate walks, do you think? It doesn't look that far on the map but all the hill climbing might be strenuous.

@@TheGlobalExpats Regarding the city of Florence, there are many places and stories outside the traditional tourist circuit: For example, about the Ognissanti Church which preserves one of the three last suppers of Jesus in the world on beautiful wall, the work is by Domenico Ghirlandaio. Moreover, in the same church , there are other important works and the tomb of Sandro Bottticelli where visitors leave flowers and roses and your muse Simonetta Vespucci... Simonetta, was considered one the most beautiful women of the Renaissance, and her beauty inspired many works of art of the time... She was born in Genova ( Family Spinola ) in 1404 and moved to Florence with her husband, Marco Vespucci. Simonetta met Giuluano De Medici, the younger brother of Lorenzo the Magnificent, during a jousting tournament in Florance and it is said that he fell in love with her at first sight... Botticelli was also secretly in love but unrequited from Simonetta. And after Simonetta's death he asked permission from the Vespucci family to be buried next to his inspiring Muse... Simonetta, died at the young age of 22 years and was buried in the Ognissanti Church. the chronicles of the time tell that at the behest of the family Vespucci and Medici it was exhibited in the Duomo and as it passed all the Florentines ran to admire it in all its beauty that not even death had taken away from it 😔
