I wish Disney had let a few more arcs be released for the final season. Like starting the season with Crystal Crisis. Starting the series with Anakin and Obi-Wan working together, have Anakin in a complete episode talk about how he feels about Ahsoka leaving to foreshadow is eventual failing of Obi-Wan and follow up with Ahsoka's arc. Son of Dathomir would've been good, too, for showing Maul return to Mandalore after Sidious humiliated him last time we saw onscreen. I would've also included Dark Disciple to conclude Ventress' arc since she was an important and developed character in the series. But with her return in Bad Batch, I don't know now.

In the Brotherhood novel there's a fantastic scene with Obi-Wan where he basically figures out what's going on with Anakin and Padme and considers confronting Anakin before deciding against it. The book has him think back to his relationship with Satine and that was the primary reason he decided to leave Anakin be since in Obi-Wan's eyes both himself and Satine ended up where they needed to be after their relationship so he thought something similar would happen with Anakin.

One thing I also feel like can’t be left out of discussing Season 7 was the time period when it came out. With everything being shutdown and a lot of the future being uncertain, I personally felt like Season 7 was made that much better. I could remember Saturdays where I’d wake up, go to my dads house to help with yard work then go back to my moms house, one of the very few times I actually left the house. Then afterwards I’d check out the next episode of the season. It just felt that much more special to me. Secondly, right around the time Season 7 was on, The Weeknd dropped his massive album After Hours, and I cannot tell you how many times I’d listen to certain songs and not visualize the Siege of Mandalore. I may be alone in this, but that whole time period just felt unreal for those reasons.

This season sells the idea that The Clone Wars is not only pointless but unimaginatively destructive. The thesis, "The cost of war can never truly be accounted for," is best displayed in the ending. We can never understand just how many lives were lost in Ahsoka's last battle, nonetheless the Clone Wars, because there were too many clones to bury, and that is heartbreaking.

When I finally watched Clone Wars, I was IN AWE. SUCH A GOOD SHOW OMG, I WAS ANGRY AT MYSELF FOR NOT WATCHING SOONER. I think the thing with Trace and Rafa being so hated is the fact that they’re in FOUR episodes! They take up a third of the final season of the show we never thought we were going to get a conclusion to. And this was released on a weekly schedule, so we got a month of watching their hi jinx and it could have easily been cut down to just two episodes with them without sacrificing Ashoka’s growth

Yeah I can agree with that. I came back to watch season 7 recently, so long after its release, and actually throughly enjoyed the Ahsoka walkabout arc for what it is. I think the week of waiting between episodes and the hyped expectations for the final season on release is what soured people's opinions on it Theres of course the annoying contrived motivation to dump the spice which is the cause for much of the conflict; I hate that bit too. But I dont find it to be especially worse than other "oversimplified for children to understand" moments in the show in earlier seasons. I think seeing Ahsoka fending for herself in exile is definitely a necessary part of the plot, but it couldve been tweaked to be better

The ability to get the audience so much emotionally involved despite most knowing what going to happen afterwards makes this even more impressive. It would’ve happily watched another 6 episodes to get those other storylines. It’s not GoT finale level of cutting story short to keep under a predetermined arbitrary shortened episode count by any means, but I’d have liked more stories even if that took us on side quests to delay the siege of Mandalore.

From Anakin making a fake surrender to the Separatist army like Obi-Wan did on Christophsis, Ahsoka walking down in the shuttle like when we were first introduced to her and overall how strong the bond Ahsoka and Rex has become over the years since they first met. And most of all how Anakin agrees with the end of the movie to take Ahsoka as his padawan VS the last shot of Darth Vader looking for Ahsoka.

Disney used 90% of georges original plans for this season. They cut the padme painting and the test subject in the bad batch arc and changed the smuggler brothers in ahsoka walkabout to the martez sisters and gave them earthly names. But for the siege of mandalore arc, they used georges plans for 100% of it and the lightsaber duel between ahsoka tano and darth maul is one of my favourite lightsaber duels of all time. For these reasons, i count this season as part of lucas star wars and see episodes 1-6 and all seven clone wars seasons as george lucas star wars and everything else as Disney Star Wars. A pipe dream of mine is that they'll eventually restore the other story arcs for a rebranded season 7, and refer to the PREVIOUS season 7 as a season 8. Or maybe go with the original arc order and expand season 6 with some of those arcs. I dunno man I gotta see those arcs completed either way
@Toshiro93Ай бұрын
To sum up... the seventh season undoubtedly has some very intense moments, but it also has some dubious decisions. On the one hand, the siege of Mandalore, the duel between Maul and Ahsoka and the escape from the Venator of Rex and the togruta are three segments in which you can first perceive the pathos of wanting to end the war as soon as possible, then the clear feeling that something doesn't add up and finally the realization that everything has gone monstrously wrong. I particularly appreciated the speech that Maul addresses to Ahsoka while they are dueling, although I find it a bit unrealistic that the sith seriously thought he could kill Anakin, when he also got beaten by someone who, technically, is still a padawan. Small note: Maul's plan doesn't make much sense, since even if he had managed to deprive Sidious of Vader, the emperor would have still resorted to the clones (now, I don't remember if Maul knows about order 66, but it seems to me that he intuited something), perhaps it would have been more logical if he had immediately started telling everything he knew to Ahsoka, even though she wasn't listening. On the other hand, even if the situation of escaping from the warship is desperate, it is quite out of character for Ahsoka to release a sith on a ship full of clones: even if unarmed, Maul managed to make the vessel crash. Perhaps another way could have been found and it would have been enough not to lock Maul in a sarcophagus from which he could not physically escape. Having always seen him as more oriented towards combat, it would have been interesting if he had used force and cunning to deceive his guardians to escape alone, sowing further chaos. I did appreciate, however, that brief exchange between Kenobi and Anakin, where it is clear that the former had already understood the relationship between his former apprentice and Padme. It is a point in the films that I have always found absurd: it is practically a clandestine relationship that is under everyone's nose, yet no Jedi ever mentions it to Anakin himself. In short, I liked that Kenobi did not give out one of his lectures, knowing full well that he too was in love and actually lost his girlfriend during the war. On the other hand, I would have found it more interesting if the episodes with the sisters had been eliminated, to put some more focus on the separatist front: maybe make two intertwined arcs, where on one side we saw Mandalore, on the other the capture of Coruscant and the fake kidnapping of Palpatine, also taking some dialogues from the novelization of Revenge of the Sith about Dooku and Grievous.

18:07 the arrival of Ahsoka, her mission to Mandalore and the opening battle all mirror Ahsoka‘s arrival on Christophsis, Ahsoka and Anakin‘s mission to Teth and the Battle of Christophsis respectively. They present the exact same situations, but with subtle and not so subtle differences just to showcase how much the characters have changed since the 2008 Clpne Wars movie.

Even just thinking back to the siege of mandalore, how close the republic was to be saved just to have it all crumble down and the Sith have their revenge on all of us, gives me goosebumps and makes me feel uneasy It's such a beautiful tragedy

often the most tragic tragedies are the ones that could've been easily avoided

Never experienced a feeling from Star Wars before or since like I did watching the Siege of Mandalore arc when it came out. Just incredible stuff. I can’t really describe it. Also it really was a bright spot for me in 2020 amidst the gloom and doom of the Covid pandemic.

Honestly … I think the main reason season 7 came because Disney + needed as many original shows as possible for its launch. And season 7 was already half done when the show was originally cancelled. The liscense to the artstyle also finally came back from Warner Brothers as well (Which is why it couldn‘t be used in Rebels.) … So it was a mix of extreme luck and good timing.
@thegoldman25Ай бұрын
yep, definitely a big reason

The first episode of season 7 where it’s Rex, Jesse, and the Bad Batch doing hit and run attacks on outposts is one of my favorites in the whole show cuz it reminds me of missions from black ops 1. It’s some of the best clone trooper combat in the whole show

Ok so something that no one has talked about is a certain aspect of seeing vader in that last scene. So in that scene we see Vader stare up at Mori (Ahsoka's owl) and he uses the force on her lightsaber. Now something i noticed immediately is that Vader only has one red-eye lens, the other is black. This leads me to believe that this moment actually takes place very shortly after Vader and Ahsoka's duel on Malachore. Vader is still shaken from that fight and a bit of Anakin was restored. That little bit of Anakin brought him to that gravesite and retrive that blue lightsaber to honor and remember his little sister.
@thegoldman25Ай бұрын
that's a really interesting idea. I assumed the color of the eyes was just a lighting thing

@thegoldman25 i don't think it was a lighting thing, it looks too intentional looking.

I honestly think if one more arc could've been in the final season, it should have been son of dathomir, during the final season we got to see all the heroes at their peak, before tragically breaking them all down. I think it would've been nice to see all of the villains at their peak one last time before witnessing all of their fates during the siege of mandalore and ROTS

With the season effectively being cut in half. That Ahsoka arc with the sisters should be considered an actual war crime,...I understand what role it has in developing Ahsoka as a character,...but good God. I wish we had that Darth Raven or Anakin and Obi-Wan arc instead,...I swear, it might actually be one of the worst Clone Wars arcs next to the droid one
@ButchersNailsEnjoyerАй бұрын
You gonna cover bad batch at all because in my opinion it’s a really good show that serves as a epilogue to clone wars, a sad transition from republic to empire and finally a good perspective on the imperial side of things from the front lines
@thegoldman25Ай бұрын
I will be covering it in February or March
@metroidnerd9001Ай бұрын
The only issue I have with the Siege of Mandalore arc is that it makes no sense if you haven't watched Revenge of the Sith. If you've only been watching Star Wars in chronological order, you would have to either stop after Season 7 Episode 8 to watch RotS or watch one of the dual-feature supercuts of the two for it to work. I mean, think about it. If consumed in isolation, the arc kills Dooku, one of the main antagonists of the show, off-screen, and has Anakin turn evil off-screen too. Everything falls apart right then seemingly for no reason, making the show dependent on RotS for its narrative cohesion, which makes it unable to stand on its own, unlike the rest of the show. Granted, I don't think it would have been possible to divorce the Siege of Mandalore from RotS, and hopefully most people would have the sense to watch RotS first, so this is mostly just a nitpick. The arc is still amazing, but I imagine there are at least a few people who encountered this issue and got completely lost.
@thegoldman25Ай бұрын
totally fair, but I think the clone wars is designed to be watched after watching the movies. That's why on Mortis they show Vader
