Took delivery of 2021 Luxury (Canadian version with 2.0L engine) and extremely impressed. Brakes grab instantly and feel very strong... I suspect it's much better than the 132ft quoted in early production or Turbo version that's being reviewed. 2.0L engines can maintain 1500rpm while climbing the most challenging snow-filled hill with no-slip (with snow tires). If the Kona can't make it up..nothing else will, other than a special-purpose snow removal vehicle.

I just got the 2021 Kona 72 hours ago from the dealership and I'm liking it more and more. Just have to get used to the smaller interior because I got used to driving a 2006 Nissan Quest for the past 10 years with its enormous interior, but I have room in the front. I do wish there was a little more leg space in the back. Overall though, it's growing on me. I didn't plan on getting it, because prior to 3 days ago I'd never even heard of the "Kona" as I had never really paid much attention to Hyundai's before, but I see they make reliable vehicles. I'm glad I got it.

Have you had any problems with your Kona since you bought it? Any engine problems or excessive oil consumption?
@jmp14673 жыл бұрын
Great review. After LOTS of reading online and test driving of various cars, I purchased the 2021 Kona Preferred Trend in Two-Tone Red up here in Canada and I LOVE it. I have always been a sports car person and in fact traded my '02 Porsche C4S on this as I wanted something more practical for year round driving. Test drove the comparable Mazda CX30 and didn't like the 'feel' of it nearly as much, although it did have a more luxurious interior, albeit miss-matched. Very happy with my choice, so far. Would never have imagined I would ever be driving a Hyundai. But never say never until you have tried it! :)

A very impressive subcompact SUV. Well deserving of its awards. Personally, I find the KIA Seltos, built on the same platform and sharing many features and components, more appealing. Though still a sub-compact Seltos is about 8" longer, a difference that makes a huge difference in interior space. (26.6 cubic ft vs 19.2 cf cargo space behind the second row and 62.8 cf vs 45.8 cf in total cargo space. That total cargo space is more than a Mazda CX-5! KIA and Hyundai frequently stagger their model update years and new generations so the 2022 Kona may well reduce those differences. And as noted in the video the 2022 Kona will include a "N" version. Unclear whether KIA will follow suit with the Seltos. The Kona is also often compared to the KIA Soul but they're different vehicles in a number of ways. The Soul is closer to the size of the Kona than the Seltos (165.2" vs 164" long) while it offers nearly the same cargo space as the larger Seltos (24.2 cf behind the rear seat and 62.8 cf overall.) The Soul's overall looks are either frumpy or stylish in a postmodern way depending on one's taste. The Soul is a couple of inches taller than the Kona and a little over an inch shorter than Seltos but it's boxy shape is arguably more versatile in terms of passenger and cargo space than either one. The Soul doesn't offer AWD but that doesn't seem to matter to owners. When owners were asked by KIA if they would prefer AWD almost a third believed the Soul already had it. :) KIA and Hyundai are especially adept at slicing a vehicle category (e.g. subcompact SUV's) into multiple sub-segments that appeal to consumers with different priorities. The Kona, Seltos, and Soul are prime examples.

I found out the hard way, i.e. I presumed having the camera to the rear, automatically included the rear sensors, to assist w/ tight spots....it does not. That was a huge point of 'discussion' for me. Definitely another lesson learned. Thanks for the information you do provide. Hopefully 2021 is a better year for us all. Patrick from Phoenix

Shamur Stewart and I think you just described most products in general. Cars for sure are more reliable than they were even 10 years ago. Now there are exceptions like Chrysler, Ram, Jeep, Nissan, Mini, Mitsubishi. But they are still somewhat reliable but in the shop much more than average. Other products on the market get better over time also. I guess it’s progress. But yes fro that person to be worried about reliability, well nobody talks about that in these new car reviews because these guys don’t know or shouldn’t predict that. If you buy a Hyundai be prepared to spend minimum of $175-$500 every month on BS problems you will never experience in a quality car like an Honda. Every other month you will have to replace 1 0f 6 to 8 catalytic converters that go out for no reason like clock work one after the other. Your gas line will need replacing, then your gas tank that rotted from the inside for no apparent reason. Your check engine light will be on more than it is off. When you finally replace the entire engine and decide you've had enough, and sell it for next to nothing, you'll buy yourself an Acura and realize that it never needs maintenance, that it isn't normal to be without your car every other month because it's in the shop again, and you'll swear like I did to NEVER buy another Hyundai again!!!
