Yeah, ever since Between Two Ferns came out I feel like he drew inspiration from Gordon Kieth. The funny part of some of Gordon’s earlier stuff was how the actors went in completely blind to his awkward interviews. Watching them laugh and figure it out was so much fun. Between Two Ferns is still funny, but it’s more scripted and the actors know what they’re getting into.

Gordon was absolutely in on a prank, whether Zach was or not. Gordon perfectly cut his speaking mid sentence on the first question to throw everybody off and he did it perfectly. His tone of voice when speaking, how he stopped the hand movement and made direct eye contact with firm silence to indicate that was the end of the sentence. Truly hilarious and great work.

This seems almost rehearsed, and intentionally awkward, and knowing Zach's humor it makes sense.

What makes it legendary is it wasn't rehearsed. Zach had no idea what he was getting into, he was just sitting down at one of those press junkets where he does 30 different interviews in a day with various outlets around the country. This was just two experts at awkward humor who'd never crossed paths before.
