You know, another lesser known fact. Many debt collectors, after defaulting on a debt, will settle your debt for less than you owe. I had around 6k credit card debt that Chase sent off to collectors and the collectors made offers to settle it for 12 monthly payments for nearly 1/3 the original owed amount.

The first girls message I like. It's good. interest on multiple cards, if it's gonna be more than the fee on the balance (2-5% typical) it's worth it. 10K debt, $200 fee on the best scenario, $500 on the worst. Divide that by how many months that offer is (typically 12, 15, 18 or even a rare 24 months) and you will see if it's worth it based on if it's lower than your interest you're paying on the card(s) currently. BUT, completely useless if you use the other cards after balance is cleared from them. This is the hard part for people. But great simple advice. Most people don't know even where to start to tackle their debt, so good on her!

Most people can't handle credit cards and even more people cannot handle credit cards in emergency situations like a unexpected job loss. Very very few actually use them responsiblly. So it makes sense why Dave Ramsey has the cut up the card mentality. For the very few who can use them responsiblly credit cards can be a very useful tool to use.

If you have 20,000 in maxed out credit card debt and you're able to get another credit card, your new line of credit will not be anywhere near the amount you want to transfer.

Here's a crazy idea... Just pay off your card every month and pay no interest. Wow omg how insane?!?!?!

George is more correct on credit card debt for HIS audience. They come to Ramsey solutions because they are deep in debt and have proven that they cannot do credit cards.

What I do when I want to do a 0% Balance Transfer, I put the full amount in a Fixed (Cash) Deposit to earn interest for the same period so by the end of the period I also earn some interest.
@PhantasticAnhimal5 сағат бұрын
If you're maxed out on all your credit cards, then that lowers your credit score. Do credit card companies still give out 0% balance transfer credit cards who are all maxed out?
@JWalton3144 сағат бұрын
They may give them a card but it's not going to be anywhere near the amount they want to transfer.

Graham should I max out my Roth IRA before I add more to my 401k contributions? I’m already getting the maximum company match
@TheGrahamStephanShow4 сағат бұрын
Conventional "wisdom" typically says 401k match -> Roth IRA -> Traditional 401k. If you're already getting the max company match, I think the Roth IRA would be my next personal favorite! :)

A lot of people are in credit debt. I think the credit card companies don’t want you to pay it off so they can make the money off the interest.
