Why hasn't the great John Barry been knighted posthumously ? He is one of the greatest composers of film music and a genius .

John Barry was one of those grades that will never be replaced. I saw this movie about 6 or 8 times I think in the 1st month it was released. I read the book first. It was awesome. Then I heard John Barry did the score and it Secured a place in my. Memory. Forever

I SURE MISS STRINGS IN MUSIC. IT ADDED SO MUCH DEPTH AND INTEREST TO THE SONG. THE DANCE MUSIC OF TODAY, WELL, IT DOESN'T HOLD A CANDLE TO WHAT THEY DID BACK IN THE DISCO YEARS AND VERY EARLY 80'S. THAT CANDLE WAS BLOWN OUT A LONG TIME AGO.

I remember, being 10 years old, going to the record store to buy The Deep by Donna Summers. They told me, they didn't have that 45rpm, but they did have the instrumental version. So, I bought it and, instantly, I became into a big fan of John Barry.

I'd say it's more, "orchestral and disco-y at the same time" -- funk would have more syncopation in the kick drum, more 7 chords at the very least, etc.

The vinyl album is the most beautiful shade of blue one could imagine, almost a Maxfield Parrish Blue. When I ordered it through the mail long ago, I was so surprised when I unsealed it and extracted this gorgeous-looking disk! It somehow adds to the music on it. I've been collecting soundtracks since I was in my early teens in the Sixties, and I know when I see a film: "I MUST have that score!" This was one of those times. I also love Barry's Bond music and, especially, his "Somewhere in Time".

Thank you very much for making this video available. I was 13 when this film was released and captivated me from the get go. It immediately made me want to take up scuba diving, I became certified diver a year later! I later went to Bermuda on vacation and actually did a tour of the cruise ship shown docked in the film! This classic movie still holds up.: great suspense, photography, wonderfully atmospheric John Barry score and great ensemble acting by Jackie Bissett, Robert Shaw, Nick Nolte, Eli Wallach, Louis Gossett Jr. etc.
