At least you have all their epic albums (Ten, Vs, & Vitalogy are th4 best in my opinion), along with Soundgarden, AIC, Mother Love Bone, STP, etc....to relive in spirit was us Gen X'ers were & are so fortunate to have experienced live. I was 15 in 91', went to Lolapalloza 93'-94' (when it was ALL rock, metal, & solid hip hop), & have experienced all my (still) favorites before we lost so many legends (my saviors). What a time for killer music & to be alive & free!

I had the privilege of seeing Stone Temple Pilots during the Purple Tour and let me tell ya, it was amazing vibe. Seeing them with the Meat Puppets and Redd Kross in Portland is something that will never happen again. But, I wish I could have seen lollapalooza in the 90’s. That would have been awesome.

It's factual too, respect to PJ intended but in truth in terms of albums, they've never created anything close in terms of the unique brilliance of Superunknown or even Down the Upside, Chris Cornell was by far the most brilliant song composer of that scene combined with Kim, Matt, Ben who all brought something of their own that was unique. PJ after their 2nd album predominantly became a Vedder Gossard song writing duo

It wasn't really a movement though was it? I would say it was a small local scene of very vaguely similar bands that the media tried to present as a movement so it could be packaged and sold to the masses. The last great movement was probably indie or alternative rock of which the Seattle scene was one facet. In my opinion.

@@thetomfair Nirvana changed everything, and thanks to Kurt Cobain, Pearl Jam and others exploded, killing off hair metal and the popular culture of the 1980s. That's called a movement.

@@nathankrush3289 You're right, Nirvana and co. certainly put paid to hair metal although I'm not sure the same could be said about pop culture given the terrible commercial pop music of the 90s. But to me a movement is when a style of music has various unifying elements that are then adopted globally so you might find a local punk scene in Japan or a metal scene in Romania. For example. As far as I'm aware there are no local grunge scenes. I doubt there's even one in Seattle. And even the main band themselves were reluctant to call themselves grunge. It was a media hyped thing...they needed to give this thing a name when really it was a local variant of indie rock...

I remember when all that 90's music was hittin'...AND HOW GREAT IT WAS...i was thinkin' how we were kinda 'living the music experience' kinda like the 60's era. Each era has its treasures... Just the fact there was such great music at that time...everything was so fabulous 🌼 i loved every second of it!!

@@billybats4745 Only the bands still standing from then are releasing anything worthy of considering in the ballpark of great music imo. Also imo music died after the 90s. 2000 on it has just been the undead walking around with no real purpose. There are exceptions of course but most of those are old bands still killing it and the new ones either don't last long because the mindset about music and how we consume it has changed dramatically.

a 16 year old Southern Young Man from Florida & Georgia found his way to Seattle, and the young man meets Mr. Quincy Jones and a shy guy by the name Mr. Jimi Hendrix! Quite an amazing moment for that young southern man to travel the farthest distance away he could have possibly gone in his home country from his home states to Seattle! Considering the young Southern Man was legally blind to travel that far at age 16 and once he gets here he spent roughly 2 years at Seattle & Sir Mr. Ray Charles actually was the first person/musician to give Mr. Jimi Hendrix his first paid music gig ever! Can Ya See Me Now?!?!?

Chris Cornell is an underrated member of this movement and there are several reasons for this, among them: He was the pathfinder of Grunge SOUNDGARDEN was the first band to have a signature and to sort of authenticate this term grunge that didn't even exist before. He formed TEMPLE OF THE DOG which was a tribute to Andy (another underrated grunge band due to his early death) and with Eddie Vedder, which after this band, allowed the formation of Pearl Jam. And perhaps the most underrated reason of all is that Nirvana put grunge on the rise from SEATLLE but there were bands with better and much richer content than them. Cornell was more poetic than the Beatles, heavier than Black Sabbah and with a vocal timbre compared to Freddie Mercury. He was a musician with a combination of excellent vocal, melodic and artistic quality. NO ONS SINGS LIKE YOU ANYMORE.

You need to go back further; MLB, Green River, Malfunkshun etc and then to The Sonics, The Wailers etc and more all played their part. L’Andrew was the unique character that started Kurt wearing dresses and more.

Yes it was amazing to witness the "grunge" scene come alive. I still remember to this day exactly where I heard Nirvana for the first time, and it blew me away. Total different sound, authentic, raw. And then PJ's Jeremy video also rocked the music scene a few months later and it totally changed the music scene in 1 year.

I was 17/18 when this scene was blowing up and out of the Big 4...PJ was by far my favorite. It just captured me in a way the others didnt not to say I didnt enjoy those bands as well as others. My favs at the time were PJ, Smashing Pumpkins and Rage Against the Machine. Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails were also big to me at the time. I saw PJ in November of '93 in Indio, CA. If you havent seen it, it's on KZbin and was one of the most memorable shows for better or worse for this time in their careers. Between the Grunge explosion and the rise of "gangsta" rap in the early '90s it was an amazing time to live through.

No PJ's frankly lazy album writing with lots of dull fillers assured that, as adjudged by many album reviews and different critics down the years... PJ retracted from their earlier music and sound deliberately to deescalate the hype around them and this was prior to MC's arrival in 97, Matt had little to do with PJ retracting into becoming a dull rock band writing songs by numbers. On an album such as Riot Act that is full of frankly forgetful songs, a creative standout song on the album & when performed live is You Are which Cameron wrote

And Chris, I was listening to you and SG then as well, when you went here a few years ago I was already in my 30’s. I was crushed, I thought of you like Lanegan. Being from Seattle and immersed in the local music scene in the early 90’s, Grunge was NOT in the local vernacular. It was a label slapped on us by outsiders. Nobody here refers to anything as “Grunge” even to this day.
