I understand why you might think this and clearly this news is infuriating to read/hear yet another example of, but imo it’s really not accurate to say EVERY corporation acts this way - nowhere near close. Big, powerful and monopolistic corporates with aggressive public affairs departments - sure. But if we just tarnish all corporations with the same brush I think it actually helps organisations with the loosest governance get away with more delinquency under the guise of ‘everybody behaves this way’ and ‘this is normal’. It’s not normal and we should be clear about that! I’m glad this company is finding itself embarrassed again over this now and let’s hope it serves as an example to those who might have thought totally disregarding laws is a legitimate foundation for market expansion

I love the Uber statement, saying 1) they've moved from an era of confrontation. That 2) driver earnings are at/near all time highs. And that 3) in the UK Uber drivers get workers' rights. 1) is because they have finished using the violence to get their feet in the doors. 2) is just economic prestidigitation (total earnings per driver (or driver hour) adjusted for inflation would be a reasonable looking measure. Just piling up all the fees and ignoring inflation is not honest. 3) This is true, but only because they were obliged to by UK law, or else quit operations altogether. And only in the UK. Big deal.

Black cab drivers in London had most of the market used to make a fortune. You hear stories of 100k a year salaries, although some argue it was usually 50k. Regardless a black cab cost twice as much as a mini cab or an uber. So you can see why the Public were keen on uber. I could not afford a black cab unless an absolute emergency.

I can't say anything about other countries, but in the US, where Uber started, taxi services were corrupt local monopolies that gave terrible service at high prices, and that was true for me in New York, Michigan, Illinois, and Massachusetts. Dispatcher regularly lied to you about how long it would take to get a cab, and cab driver didn't care if someone else jumped into the cab you waited an hour for. There were laws in the US that needed to be destroyed, because they were harmful to the public, while benefiting a small business interest.

Former CEO of Uber, Mark, may act as a whistleblower for a number of reasons, or for his own interest. However, we can't deny that he made sacrifices and took risks to inform the public about unlawful and unethical conduct during the scandal. As a result, Uber was investigated and we may have opportunities to correct these practices in the future. the behaviour benefits the majority of our society in the long run. If we have no encouragement/motivation to stand up, we can at least show our respect to those who did.

No one cares about the drivers, they accepted the terms of the service. Whats worse is that goverments produced a new transportation law especially for uber and later on other ridesharing services, a law on top of an already existing transportation law.

The amount of effort in trying to minimize their horrible actions is astounding, and I am not talking about Mark MacGann, he did the right thing by coming forward, I am talking about Uber, that, in an attempt to discredit his statements is saying things like "everyone knows what we have done, there is even a TV series, we are not like that anymore so shut up".

All things aside, my experience using Uber is still better than anytime I needed a standard taxi anywhere. I want to be able to use services that make my life easier for a cheaper price. This is what technological progress is for
@IaSaVedem
@IaSaVedem 2 жыл бұрын
cheaper price, that`s the deal. If it weren`t for the cheap price you wouldn`t use it, unless it will be the only service avaliable on the market, and if that will happen guess what? the prices will rise because of the monopolized market. On the flip side the drivers of the tech progress are whining about the low fare prices and few money they make over it. Bottom line topped with the fact that uber made goverments invent a new transportation low on top of the existing one, makes this service a new age slavery warped in capitalism.
