I feel like I'd prefer to dispense with the middle pick up and use proper jazzmaster pickups instead of P90s. The switch to go direct to the jack is a decent idea, but poorly executed. Would much rather have it be more like the inspiration with a second set of controls you can select and a third position for going direct to jack. Bridge design is an upgrade over the Fender (trying to get a bridge design like that to work on an instrument with no neck angle and a flat top was never a good idea and the amount of noise it produces through sympathetic vibrations and buzzes from insufficient break angles just isn't worth it), but I feel like I'd prefer it to be a Kahler as that is more in keeping with the inspiration in terms of having everything adjustable from the front and having better intonation for chords when doing vibrato. Having a fulcrum style bridge isn't really ideal for the same use cases as you'd want from a jazzmaster bridge (it's a flawed design, but it's also one that has positive qualities and has certain things that it excels at. I just think that it's very situational and that Kahler bridges can do most of the same things without the drawbacks. The only problem with well made Kahlers is that they're overwhelming in terms of adjustability but once you have the string spacing, intonation, and action set you're not going to need to mess with it again) Personally I don't think that it's for me, but I respect the fact that they made an attempt to iterate on what works with the original inspiration instead of just making a generic instrument with an offset body that abandons the innovations from the original instrument.
@joermnyc13 күн бұрын
I think others are right: the 250k pots are making the P-94 pickups sound too dark. 500k or even blowing it out to 1Meg would help TONS.
@supermario210013 күн бұрын
Definitely an interesting guitar, although I feel like it's a little overpriced and the controls could use another pass. The pricing puts this up against Vintera 2 Jazzmasters new and the MIJ 60's or (if you're lucky) an American-made Jazzmaster used. Also I personally would've loved to see a 5-way switch with the push-pull turn on the middle coil or some sort of series/parallel thing, I think this pickup layout has a lot of interesting potential that isn't quite tapped as stock.
@PaulCooksStuff13 күн бұрын
Have you played a Japanese guitar? They're at very least on par with Fender USA (I have a MIJ and MIA strat). If anything the Vola's are underpriced for the build quality and spec, now they're selling direct.

they appear to be humbucker sized, which means they're not true p90s because the number of coil windings is limited by the shorter length end to end. In fact you can barely get a few extra turns compared to a standard single coil.

@@ianjamieson3985 what ? nothing of what you say makes sense , are you human or a bot ? how can you say it's worth twice the price, are you all right ? and then you say that you can't afford one but these are a bargain ? WOW , and that you hope the ppl don't realise about how much of a bargaing these are so the prices can't go up . First if they are a bargain they'll sell them like hot cakes, so we'll wait and see, if not they will have to go down and that support my argument that they are overpriced (the market corrects itself ) and even if the guitars don't go down and stay locked at that same price, with the time life will go up and will make the guitars cheaper in relation at the time they were built, something that again will show they were overpriced and ppl decided to wait and buy them in the future. My opinion is that they are overpriced your's is that they are a bargain. We'll wait and see. But I definitively think you are a bot, (I's a human joke , don't take it wrong) Have a good day with all the love and respect.
@ianjamieson398512 күн бұрын
@@Old-Skull. I'm not a bot. Why I say they're worth twice the price is because of the level of quality with which they're made and the price you would have to pay to get that same level of quality from any other manufacturer. Try finding an MIJ guitar for less than £2000 (these were less than £1000 when they first came out). I can't afford one because I'm skint, I couldn't afford to buy a guitar at the moment. Just because they are a bargain doesn't mean they will sell like hot cakes. Guitars are very much subject to personal taste. They're increased presence in videos will encourage more people to take a chance and buy them. Since when did the popularity of anything of reasonable value go down? Name me one thing that isn't a consumable that is a considered purchase that has undergone a price reduction as a result of popularity. As for the cost of living going up, well surely the price of the guitar will go up as well (as everything does) and hence it won't become cheaper.

Andy, Thanks for the demo! And I do respect Vola for what they've done. But this guitar sounds dull/dark. A Jazzmaster has some bright sounding options. To find what this guitar wants to be when it grows up, check the Bob Weir D'Angelico! Same basic pickup configuration but with a million combinations which are actually useful. Check out positions 2 and 4, it quacks like a mofo! If $1999 is too steep, consider the Premier variant which is $999 and has most of the interesting options of the "Deluxe".
