I always enjoy guitars that have a contrasting tone between the neck and bridge pickups. That’s the secret to a killer middle-position tone IMO! This right here sounds amazing, but more importantly looks amazing! And a guitar’s looks are the real secret to awesome tone, as we all know. Side note: I always felt that JM style offset bodies look best with a T-style headstock. Looks more proportional, but what do I know!

Dear Sir I loved your thorough but fun review of this guitar. That thing is bad ass and classy AF in the same go! I was close to getting the Wingman Original, was going back and forth between Bigsby/Jabbmaster pickups or Stoptail/Minihumbuckers but I think those P90’s sound thee best for what I’m looking for! I’m a bit surprised that they sound so alive even though I see 250k pots listed on the website, as I expect 500k pots with P90s. But one can’t argue with that tone, I guess Baum know what they are doing! I mean they sound incredible. I’d pay extra for a roasted maple neck on the Vega, but oh well ya’cant have it all. I really dig the black headstock and dots on the Vegas also! I think I’m going for an Inca Gold one, mmmhmmm! Greatly enjoy your work. BTw you are the feller that got me to buy a Boss FZ1W, love that thing! Cheers!

I came *so close!* to picking up one of these at the local guitar pusher (they had it at like 15-20% off) - the only reason why I didn't was that after I'd played around with it for like 45 minutes in the shop, I went a few rounds on a Fender Player Meteora (yes, I have a thing for that shape apparently 😝) & that felt so much more natural for me to play... not that the Wingman was bad by any stretch of the imagination but that's what scuttled the impulse decision - so at least for me, the Wingman did not feel Fender'y enough 😁 (then, a few months later, I bought a Sterling Mariposa on impulse, but that's another story...)

To get it a bit closer to things you might use a Jazzmaster for, I'd add one of those really nice, but not too expensive or hard to install Duesenberg after-market trems that can go on a tune-o-matic bridge, which I think this might be?

About the headstock geometry: I can see that Baum have kept the strings straight from bridge to , nut to tuner. To increase the space between tuners they would have to make the headstock longer, and it looks a bit big already, like a pretty girl with big ears.

I have not heard Jazzmaster pickups described as "P90" pickups, but I suppose that they are the same thing. The Fender Jazzmaster pickups, although on the surface look like they might be dual-coil humbuckers, are indeed single coil, just wound in a wider and flatter manner than the single coils that they make for a strat or tele.
