This is really, really impressive Ramon. The best video I have seen that explains Knopfler's right-hand technique. I like that you have broken it down to entry level with an exercise that I can pore over and practice. Fab work, man. Will definitely look through your other instructionals.

I've loved Mark Knopflers guitar playing since i first heard 'Sultans'. I've seen Dire Straits several times back in the 80's. There are bits of his stuff i can play and although it may not sound as good it is a thrill to get close. This lesson/tutorial gives people a chance to sound, even if only a little, like Mark. Thanks for putting this up.

@@tarantino5515 Hi, its going really well. I've had stainless steel frets fitted to my guitar. I had worn the frets flat on two necks so i had to do something. I play very loud for short (45 minutes) spells and oh man the sound i can make now is so sweet. Very Knopfleresque - I can't help that as the man has been such an influence on how i hear guitar music and how i want to sound. I can set my looper and just play finger style with all the different tones on my strat. I've been in several bands when i was younger but i'm enjoying playing more now than ever. It's a great technique that produces great sounds and really worth working on. no matter how long it takes. (be patient if you're trying).

Very nice lesson! One great help to your students to get the shuffling in any melody is to emphasize that nails hit the “snare drum” offbeat time. You do it but I think to a beginner, if not emphasized it can be overlooked and result in them doing syncopated nail strikes (which can come later but complicate things in the beginning..) Once I was in the New England mountains and saw an oldtimer plying virtuoso banjo. I asked him how does he do it and he showed me his thumb and I dex making like a crab hand shape. Infact he was hitting with his thumb the strong beat and with the nails of the index the offbeat.

Great concise video Ramon.. I’m no guitar player, I’m more piano but I’ve always wanted to get something going on guitar. The only thing I’m any good at is fingerpicking so I was very attracted to this style. I’ve given it a go and it seems to work for me! Hello Ramon, just discovered your Mark Knopfler lesson, what a great break down. Question on the down stroke with the nails, how do you get the echo/reverb sound? I'm using a Telecaster with a small Vox amp. Also, to get that lighting speed arpeggio move is a challenge, even slowing it down. More Mark is always welcome. Thank you, Anthony
@taylor818e62 жыл бұрын
Tried for hours today, can't get the rhythm going, or the same effect with the down stroke with the fingers. If you can share the settings to get sound, that would be fantastic. I also notice you keep your pinky planted while doing it, that was difficult too. Please sir. may we have some more? Thanks, Great Job, Anthony
@mosheyuval3502 ай бұрын
Just wish will be clearer and not as fast with the grooves, with somewhat of indications of your left hand (and right sometimes) this is great help but way too fast and I find myself slowing it down all the the time. For example, 5:47 you finally gave something slow to really get down into it, but the downstroke is muted and it is unclear how or why, when I downstroke it gives unmuted sound...

Very unclear as to exactly which strings were being played either by the thumb or the fingers when doing the shuffle, not helped by the camera angle obscuring the fretting. It would have been very useful to demonstrate it with your left hand just holding a still chord first. And I am not a newbie to fingerstyle playing either.
@barthvapour3 жыл бұрын
Additional after watching several times slowed down... AT NO TIME do you point out that your plucking fingers are plucking the same string as your thumb. You really should highlight that, because it's crucial and easy to miss because it's not very visible.
@grandelusion11482 жыл бұрын
@@barthvapour He points it out in the first 30 seconds. He plays one string, same note over and over with alternating fingers. Just gotta pay attention.
