Yangben Faksa - Pork Curry with Wild Lichen | Ethnic cuisine of Limbu and Rai

Yangben-faksa, a pork (meat from local pig or Sungur) curry cooked with yangben (wild edible lichen), pig’s blood and spices, is a popular delicacy of Limbu communities and also eaten by Rai communities. Yangben is one of the peculiar ingredients only consumed by these ethnic communities as food. Fak-sa means local pig (sungur)'s meat in Limbu language.

Yangben and saryang are exclusively indeginous to limbu community. Although now days many communities eat them. Originally the name yangben itself is from limbu language...so be cautious when describing their origin.

The Gundruk - Yangben is not a Rai cuisine. I understand that it is widely used and popular in both communities but its not an Ethnic Rai cuisine. Rai and Limbu are two different communities and have different cultures and food. We construct our identities from history, culture, tradition and heritages, and it is our responsibility to conserve and protect it. Misleading title from such a popular channel like yours is only adding fuel to the growing misconception of Rai and Limbu culture, specially considering you attract a large group of people. Hope you respect each culture and kindly amend the misleading title.

Me frm Yamphu community,, I will cook new item food which in case liked by many might be call yamphu cuisine.. In olden days, I meant in purkha times,, Fry gorera ta khanu poni janeko thiyena hola.. Again, the name of food item shown in this video may be from particular tribal language, this kind of item we also used to eat and cook, but the preparation is different.

the Gundruk I believe your title says “ethnic cuisine” and I bet you know the meaning well too since you are running such an amazing channel. My point is, just because our population eats choila (Newari), samosa (perhaps Indian) or pizzas (Italian) doesn’t make it the “ethnic cuisine” of the whole population. This isn’t to start nasty commentaries. Since you are doing such a fab job in a huge platform of introducing foods of Nepal I only hope, scratch that, I want you to give the correct information cause many people may not know.

I understand what you are saying. I know faksa is not Rai language (even different clans of rai living in different regions have different language) and the word itself suggests Limbu cuisine. As I have found both the Kirat communities have the culture of eating this particular food---I thought it is proper to right 'Rai and Limbu' cuisine. I would be glad if you can make me aware me more about the cuisines (with name in local language) and food culture of Rai communities.

First of all, by now not only Rais and Limbus eat it many other communities and nationalities might have tried it too. Your title says, ethnic cuisine (which I REALLY HOPE you know the meaning) and not "people who eats yangben phaksa" hence the correction. Secondly, Kirat community does not ONLY include Rais and Limbus there are other ethnic groups included too. Also, the mere fact that different groups are categorised under a community does not make them all the same - meaning the ethnic groups haveTHEIR OWN culture, traditions, langugage, FOOD and what nots. Coming to the point of Rais and Limbus - everything is different from the way they marry to the way they bury. Hope you get the point now. As far as I have heard, one of the ethnic food of some Rai people is called WACHIPA (I have emphasised on the word some as I do not know which group of Rai language it belongs to and I am aware that you are familiar with the fact that Rai people have different languages). Anyway, good luck with your future endeavours hope your channel does well. p.s. hope you make the correction!
