Sata released a video saying the same thing but way too complicated. You think of everything gunman. I’ve been watching for 9 years. This is much appreciated as always.

That's a really cool way to explain it. I thought you were supposed to shoot for as much pressure as possible, but now I know. Thanks Gunny 🤙

It took me a while to get my head round setting the regulator correctly on the wall, it's one of those things that once you know it seems quite simple but can be difficult to explain it to someone else but you did a great job on it Gunny👏👍John UK

Hello Gunny, I'm a very big fan of yours and i love most of your videos, its very detailed and well explained. Gunny in the recent times i accidently saw some random videos in the youtube where the painters either paint or powder coat their alloy wheels to chrome or dark chrome. It looks so fantastic to see alloys with such effect and it really gives a very premium feel. I have been closely watching your Torana restoration videos. Gunny If possible in your upcoming videos, Please do some videos on how to acheive the chrome effect on certain Applications. I think it will be a very usefull and educational video to all of us. Thank you Gunny, ❤ from India.

I got a chicago air 150L unit, has a water trap air reg built in so I dont always have to run a reg at the gun, works really well and stays well ahead of my air requirements.

I experienced this at a shop, and I told the shop that they needed a diaphragm regulator, because of this very problem. Even the Sikkens rep agreed. They wouldn’t buy one. We had issues with color, and you could see it in the paint. I certainly wasn’t gonna buy one. That was just 1 of the many issues they had. I didn’t stay. They were hiring a new painter every 2 months.😂

💯 right… Think of breath air through a straw or a big hose… This is what happens at the gun if the pressure at the regulator is too high and the final adjustment is made at the gun… When everything is fully open at the gun and the pressure is correct it breathes properly and atomizes the droplets correctly… Gunnie your the Man ☝️

"MOST" at home painter's problem is the tank size and it's CFM rating. My compressor, 120psi with 30 gal tank CAN'T keep up with my gun set to spray @20psi for base and 25psi for clear...that's painting plastic parts for my 2007 Goldwing...all 37 pieces of them. I found that I needed to stop after few parts to allow pressure to build back up or else I get low pressure issues at the gun.

I'm just a hobby painter. Because I don't have the huge airlines I have an accumulator tank like you mentioned for line losses & that's enough to ensure I have constant pressure for even the longest passes. I set my booth regulator at 60 & use a "cheater valve" at the gun. So what happens is between passes when the gun trigger is closed, the pressure goes to 60 and is momentarily that high when the trigger is first pulled (cheaters only control the pressure while air is flowing). This has never been a problem since you NEVER start spraying on a panel anyway (and if you keep the gun triggered between passes). Maybe that's what the people are talking about with setting the booth regulator so low.

My booth has exterior 500L 32cfm 11 BAR compressor with water traps, and "100 liter pony tank" inside booth After first stage air dryer (constantly supplied by main), and regulator before pony set at constant 6 bar and additional regulator on pony outlet going to 2nd air dryer, that reg set at 4 bar and one on gun set at 2 to 3 bar depending what is being sprayed "air line to gun as short and large dia as possible so no pressure fluctuations at gun when releasing and squeezing trigger. Works 100% regardless if on other side of shop air tools and sand blasters are used... MY way works for ME and the quality of work and obviously works for clients most importantly 🐺

I'm using a 50 litre 11.6cfm compressor at home that is running 7 bar at the compressor and 5bar at another wall mounted regulator. using the areopro a610 when the compressor is full is fine, I can get 29psi at the gun but when the compressor drops to 4bar when it kicks on the wall mounted regulator drops aswell and the gun goes down to 20psi, is this simply the result of the compressor being to small and not being able to keep up with the cfm requirements of the gun?

Was wondering if you could share some knowledge on air quality from the compressor and how to prevent water from getting through, setups to prevent, using filters, desiccant, etc? Thank you

Aftercooler or refrigerated dryer, auto drain, then final filter & regulator in the booth. Too often, people will add too much filtering and traps to combat the issue and wind up choking air flow, when instead, the issue could be handled upstream with less components.

My frend have similar situation but his problem was air line length and diameter. His problemas was from the kompresor line was fat next was small next fat and to spray booth was small line. I hardly convinced him to change ot but then he cange it problem got solved

My paint volume or flow reduces as my pot level drops . It's good when it's full. Is it because my $100 gun is too crap. I only use it a few times a year. I'm happy with the finish but it's a pain adjusting the speed I'm spraying as the pot level changes

The best one would be the DeVilbiss GPG (formerly GPi) get it with 1.3 and 1.8mm tips on it, you will need to get 2 different needles one for the 1.8 and another for the 1.3 www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk/product/devilbiss-gpg-all-purpose-spray-gun/

Does this work for all compressors? I got myself a small compressor to get started (no room just yet!) But its perfect, except for when I first spray. It levels ~30psi but when it first starts its at 60 and chucks big globules out without walking the spray gun onto it. Im using pearl pigments and upol 1k clear coat if that helps. Vid has helped mostly though, what a blinder of a time to come out! Cheers mate 😁

If you're spraying at 30, then I would have the regulator no higher than 35 or so. The higher you go, the more you'll see fluctuations. I have a 60 gal compressor that's set to about 90, but then the booth regulator is set just above what the gun needs. No cheater valve used... straight hose to gun. I find that cheater valves cause some restriction.

Set the wall regulator between 3 bar to 4 bar. You will always have 4 bar of pressure on the airlines so your pressure on the gun will be the same
@JonathanCox94

Good explanation, it’s best to have the regulator as low as possible but with most air feds they will blow a whistle if too low, they need around 100psi anyway I do suffer from fluctuations at times but it’s somthing I keep an eye on, the good thing with the DV1 is the pressure is staring you in the face so you can watch it while painting

Last part of your video, you mention people like to leave it high and cut it back at the gun? Sata believes just the opposite. They feel as you do, it will cause turbulence. Now I don’t like all that pressure at the gun, seems like too much unnecessary pressure I’m the gun. However, either low or high at the gun, I don’t feel it affects my spray.
