I ask Bixby to turn on WiFi and then turn off Data, go to the home screen then lock the phone every time I arrive at home all under one customized command "WiFi Mode" and vise versa also when I leave home with the customized command "Mobile Mode". Those kinds of phone operations cannot be done by Google Assistant. I think of Bixby as an auxiliary to the Google Assistant. I use them both for different things.

Bixby is not very good at giving information, but what bixby does that other AIs don't is that you can fully control your device with you voice. Bixby is not bad at all, is just that is focused in other things, in this case, like I said, control things. Bixby is very underrated because the people don't know what bixby is capable of just because they don't expect something like controlling things, so they just don't know it's capabilities. An example of this is: "hey bixby, post my last photo on instagram with this description: (description) and with this filter: (filter). As it also works very well with third party apps

Modern touchscreens are "capacitive." That is to say, when the screen is on, it's electrified by a very slight current. When you touch the screen, your fingertip conducts electricity and the device pinpoints where the field is being disrupted in the screen on the X and Y axes by measuring resistance from edge to edge and whatnot. So you can imagine what havoc could be wrought on the touchscreen when it's submerged in a swimming pool filled with conductive materials. This is why the screen locks while it's submerged, because it can't function properly when wet.

Reliable sources say you do not need to turn water lock on ever. The only purpose of having it is that some swimming motions and some things people do when swimming might confuse the watch into thinking it has been touched by your finger. One reviewer said he turns water lock on when he changes his baby's diaper because the baby is always touching his watch.

geoangle yes, water lock stops any unwanted input while under water, but in my opinion the best part of it is that it sprays any unwanted water out of the speaker grill after you get out of the water. I have a feeling if you go swimming alot and NEVER turn this mode on, water could end up damaging the speaker, or worse. Just a thought

Even if it works that way, you don't have to have water lock turned on before you enter the water. It doesn't seal anything off. You could fall off a boat or scuba dive for hours and still be fine. Just remember to cycle the waterlock "spray" feature after you get out of the water. All that feature does then is play the ideal sound to push the water out, and the water would drain out, anyway, sooner or later. The caveat is that anyone who goes near saltwater knows to rinse everything with fresh water ASAP.

Nice to finally see a Samsung note and watch companion vid. All the reviews, even most comments are just watch, watch, watch. That's why nobody has really bought these smart things. I have the s9+ and s3 frontier, and I would go as far as saying they only changed the bezel on this design. The water lock feature would come in handy, but I've seen videos of guys playing music with the s3 underwater, pretty cool. 👍

I returned mine for 4 reasons: 1. Spotify doesn't function properly on it. It plays the last track played spontaneously immediately after a call or any other use of the speaker. There is loads of info about this on line but no fix. 2. Samsung Pay is only supported by a handful of banks in UK....and not mine (Halifax). 3. The Samsung music app doesn't support FLAC files. This might not matter to a lot of people but Android supports this format and all my music is ripped to it. 4. Bixby is unreliable. I was really disappointed because I like the watch but decent music functionality and contactless payment are 2 things I particularly wanted.

I've since bought Ticwatch Pro, which runs on Wear OS. It isn't quite as slick as the Samsung Watch but looks great and does everything I want it to. I recommend it.

I guess it depends what you use the watch for. I use mine for working out, tracking my sleep and getting text notifications when im away from my phone. I know its expensive but I get a lot of compliments in my rose gold one.

Great review. The Quick Start Guide for Galaxy Watch has a disclaimer about Bixby being limited at launch. Hopefully it will be improved. I love my 42mm Galaxy Watch. The smaller size fits me better, and i suspect it would be better for you. The 46mm watch looks pretty big on your wrist.

Cheers for the review. I purchase this watch only yesterday and have to say I love the watch so far. I previously had a Sony Smartwatch 2 and then a 3, but both pale by comparison to the Samsung Galaxy watch. Like you I'm disappointed by the lack of built in features. A stopwatch not included by default in a flagship smartwatch makes no sense. The range of clock faces is almost overwhelming. I found the heart sensor is reasonably accurate, if the strap holds the watch snugly against the wrist.

Good no nonsense review. Can you explain the differences between the LTE and Bluetooth versions. Like features you can't use if you don't have the LTE opposed to just the Bluetooth. And are certain features tied to the phone.

I have this watch as well and he nailed it! Yes heart rate senzor sucks, yes bixby totally sucks and the voice recognition works pretty much well only for english language. Comparing to my previous moto 360 2nd gen i really miss that i cant use voice typing the messages as it cannot recognize my language (which wasnt a problem with 360's wear OS). Despite this i love the watch as it feels super premium and is absolutely beautiful + all the things mentioned in the video. One more thing that wasnt mentioned in the video is the problem with remotely switching songs playing on your phone through spotify. The native watch app is really buggy and doesnt work very well and spotify app just doesnt work at all on the watch. You can launch the app but you cannot really do anything there it just keeps popping up failure messages...

Actually, you can add the water lock function in the quick toggle menu if you down it from the top. Very easy and fast. In my opinion it is the best way to easily add it to the watch without being intrusive. Try that out and let me know if it was usefull.

The Gear S3 FRONTIER is just as waterproof as the Galaxy Watch. I always shower in mine and other go swimming in theirs. I always get 3 days easy from my FRONTIER even with quite a few calls.

Thanks for the video. I've had the s3 frontier for a year and I've been so disappointed bc of s voice. Voice control was the main reason I bought a smart watch and it's useless. To highlight it's uselessness, I basically bought an $300 watch I wear daily, and I still haven't broken the habit of pulling out my phone to check the time. I was considering this one until you reminded me there's no way samsung will take any strides forward when it comes to voice control. Thanks for the heads up. The waterlock mode has the funtion that you can't use your touch screen so you dont accidently press some settings without knowing. It has nothing to do with the watch waterproofness

I feel the heartrate sensor you have might be defective. I have regular doctor visits where my pulse is taken for a constant period of time and I've tested my watch on a few occassions to see how close it matches up to the medical equipment. On every attempt it was within a few beats of what was showing on the monitor so I'm curious why yours seems to be bugging out so much lol

I normally get 4 days out of mine, and that's with Continuous Heart Rate, but I have AOD off and use Night and Airplane mode when I'm sleeping. I found HR to be hit and miss when the band is loose, the tighter the better, this is taking a lot of adjustment for me as I come form a loose metal band , don't like tight things on me...

Is the MST omission a problem for specific countries or something? I've never seen a card reader without NFC for the last 5 years at least so I can't figure out why this would be a problem. I got a debit card in 2001 and have never even used the magnetic strip on it; it's chip all the way (MST uses the magnetic strip technology) and my Visa has had NFC too for the last five years or more.

1-2 days battery life is not good for two reasons. One, watches are required regularly for use throughout the week and charging both your phone and watch doesn't make sense (you're better off just having a phone). Two, Samsung can't advertise 4-6 days when it knows that typical use will result in just 1-2 days. That's borderline false advertising in my eyes. I appreciate that 'smart' watches are still in their infancy, but just be honest that, like the battery life of most tech, it's not good.

Have you ever had a watch without LTE? I'd love to spend less money on a watch for the Bluetooth one, but I've heard you practically have to have your phone in your pocket for it to connect. I work retail and we have to keep our phones in lockers way in the back, so I don't want it disconnecting while I'm working up front at the register.

this actually is the NON LTE version! The device works with both bluetooth and wifi so as long as your device is in range of the bluetooth range (about 30 feet) or wifi range (however good your router is) you will stay connected to your device.

@@LinzG143 The LTE model really only comes into play if you see yourself running/swimming alot without having your phone with you. I am the same way where I always have my phone nearby anyway that I didnt feel the need to pay an extra fee per month to have an LTE version of the watch. Plus when I was swimming I had my phone on the beach and was able to answer a phone call while out in the water without issue! As for choosing between the two smart watches, the main difference with the new galaxy watch is the water proofing for swimming. If you truly dont see yourself actually swimming with your watch, i'd personally save the money and go with the S3 mainly because it has the better samsung pay feature built in which they removed from the new model. You can still use samsung pay with the new galaxy watch, but the pay station MUST HAVE NFC which kinda sucks.

GK I tried it with all 3 bands that I have. Same results sadly. At first I chalked it off as a defect with my unit but I found forums online of other people having similar issues. I think the heart rate sensor is just not as accurate as it's been with previous models. Could be due to the extra water proofing ?

The HR sensor is not perfect but for me the readings are accurate, i've compared it several times with a medical grade pulsoxi meter and mostly the readings where equal. While biking i compared it with a shest strap and the results where also very good. the only issue i have with the HR monitor is that it sometimes just stops recording for a few hours. on one occasion i even had to restart the watch to get it going again all sensors stopped working on that occasion.

I just got my watch and the heart rate reading is the same as the one from my phone. I still need to do more tests but first test pass
