That beautiful mount was amazing. Beautiful fluidity, and stuck the dismount.

She is a true beast of gymnastics. The way she worked the code of points to her advantage is mesmerizing.

The long legs give her lots of swing, though, and that's why she does lots of gainer elements so she can swing them along and get lots of strength :) And the 2.5 twist isn't really that easy...it isn't the hardest either, but it's as hard as a double tuck back (both off the beam and on floor!) or as a double pike back on floor. :P

I like these kind of videos where the author stands out every element that gymnast is doing! 👍

The only weakness in her gymnastics, imo, is the lack of full amplitude on many of her split leaps.

She does a 3/4 twisting "Shushunova" as the third jump in her leap series. It's not just a back hip circle. Now, I know jumps in the 1/4 turns are not recognized now, but she should at least get credit for some kind of straddle jump swingdown situation.

She's tall alright, it's what made her unique as usually tall people aren't gymnasts and Svetlana proved them wrong.
@mathemusicianify
@mathemusicianify 7 жыл бұрын
She was quite tall for a gymnast, 165 cm (5 feet 5 inches), and she definitely showed that it was possible to do gymnastics as a taller person, inventing and finding unique skills that worked for her unusual body type. After her, there have been a lot of taller gymnasts who have had great success in the sport. Some notable examples include Sandra Izbasa at 167 cm (5' 6"), Kyla Ross after her growth spurts (by now she is probably 170 cm 5' 7"), McKayla Maroney at 163 cm (5' 4"). The current Olympic bronze medalist on bars, Sophie Scheder, doesn't look it but she is as tall as Izbasa at 167 cm (5' 6"). So the idea that gymnasts can only succeed if they're short isn't completely accurate, but a lot of skills are easier for shorter people. It just can require some unique routine composition.

scientificmusician Georgia Rose Brown from Australia is around 173 cm which is about 5'8? She doesnt have the difficulty but her long body makes even the simplest moves so elegant and beautiful. I love tall gymnasts, both male and female.

Other than Khorkina always had her beautiful dismounts , you have to agree with me that Svetlana Boginskaya was a much better beam worker than Svetlana Khorkina all the time.

She is more stable due to a high center of gravity. Having proportionally longer legs and a shorter torso compared to the Chinese gymnasts who tend to wobble with their longer upper body swaying sideways.

I agree that gymnastics used to be more artistic and creative. But Khorkina is not a good example. Her form and overall presentation were ugly. She was all knees and elbows. Her vaults were super gross.

B H I see what you mean, (especially when it’s slowed down) but she was safer to tuck since she was taller, and most vaults we see are layouts so when you compare it’s easy to see her knees and elbows. Still, I’ll say vault wasn’t her strongest event but she managed to do a clean run and get the score she needed. I love Svetlana. :)

How is there a 0.3 CV on the first series. B+C is no connection, C+D is 0.1, and 0.1 series bonus, ergo 0.2 CV.
@volleyballfan2
@volleyballfan2 9 жыл бұрын
+Joshua Paik She gets the .3 CV because the C+D is rebounding. The C+D is rebounding, so it's a .2 CV and she gets the .1 for a series of 3 or more elements.

Don't judge me wrong but I don't like Khorkina's salute to the judges. And I can't believe that she is doing gymnastic with that tall. Her legs is soooo long and flexible, it looks like a whip :) But her dismount GREAT! (I know 2.5 twist are the easiest, just in my opinion)

Never understood why was she so dominant with her horrible form and bent knees on every element.
@jodavitow
@jodavitow 4 жыл бұрын
@Jenny Jen lol Simone has almost perfect form. You'll hardly ever see her bend her knees. And Simone isn't competing under the 10 she is so dominant now because she can perform the highest difficulty out of everyone with a good execution. There is no comparison. Khorkina would get hammered in execution nowadays, specially in vault and floor.
@jodavitow
@jodavitow 4 жыл бұрын
@Jenny Jen lol that's just plain false. Gymnastics is the hardest it's ever been right now. Everyone is doing harder way things than in the 90s and they're expected to have better execution. That's not even an opinion. It can be seen in the numbers and the rules. You're being completely biased and refuse to see facts. I do agree it makes no sense to compare, the rules are completely different. They don't reward you for being khorkina anymore. Anyway, go check biles' execution scores and compare them. They are hardly ever in the low side. Her execution is top notch. But good argument when you called me stupid. Great way to make your point across. It definetily seems like you know what you're talking about and have facts to back that up. Keep up those amazing debating skills
