real one will be done using laser technology..not gas...someway to contain amplified multi-laser beams in a confined area by using magnets...the big issue is it would require lots nano-tech engineering and realisticly it would take few years without a factory to actually build.....and probably a lil short on tech advancement for them to get their hand on yet to made materials(stuff on the level of graphene but that would have properties that a lightsaber could use)........basicly i imagine a "cap" magnetized to the handle exaustion spot and that when the laser get turn on it push that cap up(the cap would have built in powerfull magnets so that it cant be push back to far by the laser and would also serve as limiting the range of the beam AND contain the laser within....thats as far i can help them with design....i have no knowledge in engineering itself....coming up with designs is the easy part...assembling and having materials knowledge is an headache XD...its like staring at a wall of binary numbers and your brain explode trying to decypher it XD

you must have missed the countless times he referred to it as a proto-saber then ig cause funnily enough these look very similar to the first lightsabers in star wars lore because he literally based it off of proto-sabers, because an actual lightsaber wouldn't be very viable to build in a real world setting due to kyber crystals obviously being fictional, and it would not very practical nor safe to attempt to fill up the same handle that radiates such a high temperature with the same gasses needed to fuel it

That door repair reminds me of the stories Adam Savage sometimes tells of the old days at Industrial Light and Magic. You guys literally fixed days of work in minutes to make the scene happen with nothing but the tools on hand. As bad as the mistake was, you need to also take some confidence from this.
