@charlesholtforster9651 Жыл бұрын
We tried that. It's difficult to get it dialed in just right so that the cables don't go slack on the winches and tangle, but it also doesn't pull the thing out of your hand. This requires operating it in direct torque mode, which can lead to equipment damage if there's a communications fault, so I didn't spend too much time on it (although we certainly managed to break the winches in that time!) When you have the throw feature engaged, as built, it is backdrivable like you suggest, but then it measures the velocity when you disengage that button and launches.

Great build! Y'all should absolutely rig a 3D printer to your cable system to make a room sized 3D printer! It'd be a great opportunity to go over how a printer works in detail while being absolutely ridiculous
@crazybird1992 жыл бұрын
That would be epic, but it would be incredibly difficult to code and set up.
@theneonbop2 жыл бұрын
@@crazybird199 idk its similar to a delta 3d printer, so the code wouldn't be that hard. The main problem I see is print time, as to make use of the full area you would need either a very long print or a very large nozzle, and it doesn't look like the system could easily support the weight of such a large nozzle (and tube leading to it) Eventually by tweaking the design to be more feasible you would end up with something like the full house 3d printers, which already exist.
@TimSheehan2 жыл бұрын
@@theneonbop No Elijah is right, with all the oscillation in the cables and inaccuracy of the winches 3D printing with this is pretty unachievable if you want accuracy finer than about 10cm. They commented above that they had to calibrate everything before each shot of the hammer flying here and it would drift out of calibration the more it moved.

5:11 that is a great way to detach the cables but wouldn’t it be tedious to reattach them each time? I tough that maybe there could be a small transparent mount on top of the hammer that could detach when needed but it would still keep all 3 cables in place so that the hammer can be easily reattached. The idea with the hammer that comes to you is still really cool lol so great job!

just a personal thought that came to mind, that would make the release system easier to reattach. steal the magnets from the hammer that uses the ring to release the magnet, and keep the metal ring from testing the cable system. have one in the top for catching and one in one of the faces for having it fly. me no know, just something that i was thinking about watching this.

Looking past the cable system, am sad they connected it via cable to said cable system, rather than some form of magnetic lock. Would be much easier to attach and detach, possibly allowing more fluid and complex handling. Might even have been able to allow the system to re-attach by itself mid-air, how cool would that have been?

While this would reduce the invisibilty of it, what if you created a sort of rig (perhaps a disc or something) to attach all 3 cables to. Have a single rod coming off of this with a single entry point into the hammer to secure it. That way, you could reattach the hammer with ease and keep all the cables connected to that disc/rod system. :) Love it either way!

“Hithumanintheballs = false” As someone who’s tried coding before, and as someone who’s also been hit in the balls, this cracked me up

I'm curious if we will ever reach the point where multiple features of the previous hammers can be combined into a singular one or a few.

Glad another upload is out! I've been missing you guys doing regular videos, but I'm sure there's a good reason, haha. Thor 4 was a great movie, so this was awesome too! (That StuffMadeHere video was super funny too lol)

You guys made a mini Lightsaber?! THAT'S AWESOME! Also, LOVED watching the video, it was AMAZING! X3

I think the release system would have been better if you added electromagnets inside the hammer, and then put small magnets on the ends of the wire. Then you wouldn’t have to take the hammer apart to reset it every time.

With a magnetic glove and a plasma globe in it for the lightning should be just the the real thing just not as far a distance

You fellas are insanely amazing! I don't know if you've done this or not, as I seem to recall you strapping a jet to a boat before, but have you made a boat stylized like the dinghy in Treasure Planet? I would be absolutely crushed in the awesome presence of it and I think it'd be an interesting theme with all your other futuristic gadgets and equipment! (And I'm just a total Disney geek. Treasure Planet's one of my favorite movies.)
