Funny to think, Vince learned from killing WWF popularity, by really overkilling Hogan and older guys, while not developing top talent. I was at that match in Providence , Danny Davis was a heel referee at the time. Jake would pull his own hair and fall down & the Ref would admonish Hogan LMAO it was awesome. I worked at the airport & that day I saw both Jake & Hogan arrive in RI. Hogan ran right thru the airport to his car avoiding everyone including kids. Jake who was traveling with Moolah actually took time to take pictures with kids and sign autographs & he was a heel,I never forgot that, Jake is a great guy

Sting was so "inspired" by the movie "The Crow" he basically cosplays as the lead to this day. Wrestling is full of people taking heavy inspiration of those who came before and other popular cultural things. It isn't what you are inspired by, it is what you do with it. People just like to trash Hogan because they don't like him, not because he is deserving of it. He may not be the best individual, but that doesn't change the fact that he was one of the most impactful wrestlers to ever enter the ring; he accomplished more than Billy Graham ever did.

It turns out, he told the higher ups that his shtick would blow up huge if he could be a baby face, but I guess they thought they needed to start new, since they always used him as heel. So they gave Hogan all his characteristics except as baby face, so Hogan got to blow up big. And yeah, he is humble now, but dude went off the edge with drug addictions because he couldn’t handle his character being given to someone else and himself made irrelevant.

I actually watched the 1992 Royal Rumble live from a friend's house on Pay Per View the night that it first aired! It was two months before my thirteenth birthday and I was a die hard fan of World Wrestling Federation wrestling. My all time favorite pro wrestler will always be The Ultimate Warrior, but I was already aware from the previous event which was Summerslam 91 that the Warrior wasn't around for the next few months. I didn't realize until later that he got terminated by the company for holding up Vince McMahon for a certain amount of money. However, in the months leading up to Royal Rumble 1992, I started gaining an interest in Sid Justice who was new to the organization a few months earlier. While watching Royal Rumble 1992, I was pulling for him to win the whole time! Hulk Hogan was already far past his time as the legendary heroic wrestling superstar, and I felt it was time to have Sid Justice be awarded the championship belt! To this day, I will never understand for the life of me why Vince McMahon chose to choreograph that event for Hogan to do such a dicky thing like get so butt hurt over Sid eliminating him to where he grabbed Sid's hands and pulled him out from outside the ring like a true crybaby! Rather than Ric Flair being Vince McMahon's choice to win the Royal Rumble, he should have used better common sense towards the fact that Sid Justice had his chance of a lifetime opportunity to be the new heroic superstar! About a year later, I gave up on pro wrestling. Hulk Hogan is so egotistical and spoiled! Not everything should ever revolve around just him! ~Dutch

That was Sid's time because fans tired of the "face" being too goody two shoes all of time. Sid was big, had the look, the demeanor, was a terrific actor and was at his best when he was in a rage yelling about something. The problem with Sid is that he had to be a villain and would have had no real competition to keep the belt for a real long time. It wasn't until Austin came about as a bad ass villainous face that wrestling fans took to him, and it worked brilliantly and kept us watching.

I think, especially in the 80s and 90s, that there was only a certain amount of money WWF was willing to pay out to all the wrestlers. And it wasn’t as much as the superstars make today. So Hogan wasn’t going to help bring new talent in that would dilute the amount of money being paid out to everyone. Of course he was looking out for himself, but he had been screwed over by promoters in the past and wasn’t going to let that happen again.

The best thing I ever saw about Hogan was something Nash said. Nash and him talked in a hotel parking lot for over an hour, with Nash explaining how Hogan was keeping the other guys down and not letting them get the right opportunities, and to Hulk's credit he sat there and listened to Nash say his piece, but in the end he just said "Brother, what you're proposing will cost me money." Melvyn Singleton except those other sports were not predetermined or choreographed. Vince made the conscious decision to make him “the guy” and he took the opportunity and made the most out of it. Unfortunately his ego ran wild and he stood in the way of pushing the business past himself on several occasions not allowing others to be bigger than him, even when he was older and past his prime. I was there at RR92 live, it was my birthday present. The fans were mixed on the Hogan elimination. There were many WCW fans in the crowd happy that either Flair or Sid was about to win the WWF championship. Hogan fans far outnumbered Flair/Sid fans. However, the majority of people did not like Hogan's reaction after being tossed out. Point is Hogan's time was far from over and it wasnt the majority cheering he was out. WWF clearly did not expect Flair to bring as many fans with him as he did.

With Heenan, That pairing was great. Rick was/is an interesting man and sadly as he died far too young, We have and will never get a career shoot interview obviously but every story I've heard told by others about him makes me wish that it wasn't that way. As a kid, Like 6 years old to 8-ish, I always thought Freddie Mercury due to the tache and hair colour/style but not homosexual and absolutely shredded. He is in no way the most famous wrestler of all time. He's a great actor both in and out of the ring but really didn't do anything for the sport and certainly didn't sacrifice his body or sanity for it like others have. Many wrestlers gained much wider notoriety prior to 2000. Wrestling was HUGE in the '70s and really was at its best in the '80s and '90s before drugs, murder, suicide, and learning about damage to the human body really started to tame the sport. Look into Dark Side Of The Ring, Beyond The Mat, The Resurrection of Jake The Snake, For All Mankind, The Unreal Story of Professional Wrestling, and I've forgotten a few others but you get the point. Many others were known farther and wider for their actual wrestling careers as opposed to movies.

Hogan is far from a perfect human being and yeah maybe he took that ball and rolled with it, but he sweats charisma and he's got the perfect voice and look as a face. But he never became my favorite wrestler until he morphed into Hollywood. He was the perfect heel always having his NWO minions do the dirty work for him. Vince was right to make him the guy in the 80's and his historic heel turn made the WCW relevant and is a top 3 moment in wrestling history.

What Jerry Jarrett said stuck out to me because it applies to most guys today. Most guys today are wrestlers but they don't think they are wrestlers and don't see themselves as such, that's why they don't put the extra effort into their characters.
