I saw the Sheik at the old IMA Auditorium in Flint back in the 60's with the chair and the flame... the whole deal. For being a fourteen year old at the time it scared the hell out of me.

I remember hearing of the Sheik while being a kid in Las Vegas only from magazines . We didn't have cable in the state. I went to visit some friends in Detroit . That 💩 was crazy! And I loved it. Those were the days!🗓

Same. Great how things were so regionalized back then. I only knew him, Abdullah the Butcher etc. from magazines. I spent most of my time in a WWF area, then spent summers in an NWA area, seeing Georgia Championship Wrestling in the summers was like better than seeing the Super Bowl. In the early days of TBS, I got NWA and then on local channels got Mid-South Wrestling and occasional AWA. Thank you to the many pioneers who really sold it us as kids.

The Sheik was scary, he chased fans out of the arena. George “the animal” Steele once had the same kind of heat. He used to chase the fans around and scared the living shit out of people. Then Vince changed him into a cartoon, after that it was a big laugh.

When Pompero Firpo turned good guy and beat the sheik for the US Title - was and still is thing in wrestling that moved me the most. Pompero was pretty dispicabal as a bad guy and when he turned good - I was a dreamer as a kid and wanted to save the world of bad people so Firpo's turn was great for my psyche - and ended the Sheiks reign, It was fantastic

Big Time Wrestling used to be televised from Sacramento. A group of car dealerships, in that area, used to sponsor the show. Once, after a match he busted in on car salesman Mike Salta, who was doing a commercial, and proceeded to tear the door off a new Pontiac. 😆

Al Snow's philosophy on drawing money is so stupid. Fans go to wrestling cards knowing there will be more entertaining wrestlers than the main eventers. The dumbest is Snow claiming the best match on any card is the main event because its draws the crowd. I've watched wrestling plenty of times for the mid or undercard talent and I didn't care about the main event.

Late 1970s. I was a kid sitting in a fast food restaurant and noticed this beautiful Cadillac pulling up alongside the restaurant. This gentleman and two beautiful ladies enter. He sits down at a table next to mine while the ladies get the food. I recognized him, but not from where. He looks at me and I say, I know you from somewhere don’t I? He looks at me and says I am the sheik. The ladies bring his food, and everyone continues to eat.
