No idea who said this, but I remember reading it on twitter the other day and it's really good: Once you realize that nothing is magic, that you can learn it all if you try hard enough, there's no limits to what you can do.

Realizing is hard though, not just telling yourself it isn't magic. You have to work hard to realize you CAN do it, then keep on working on it.

I recommend listening to Aqueous Transmission by Incubus, Insurgentes by Steven Wilson, "Music For A Nurse" and "The Frame" by Oceansize, and Ljudet Innan by Storm Corrosion. Perhaps these will help somewhat.

As a random guy on the internet, but who is also in the E part of STEM, I'd like to thank you for creating your channel and putting yourself out there. I have young nieces and friends with daughters, and it's *great* that they can see women *can* succeed in STEM fields. Don't panic, I'm not putting the pressure of being a role model at your feet, but you are an excellent of doing what you love and enjoy, while ignoring (or trying to ignore) the naysayers. Cheers to you!

Hay, in regards your acne. here is a few tips : keep your hair off your face, use hair band if u want, just keep them off your face. wash it with PH neutral soap, no need to go fancy, just get a decent one, do it often if you have oily skin. i recommend 3-4x a day. always wash up everytime u return from outside or if u were sweaty. wash your pillow or blanket or whatever that might come into contact with your face at least 1x a week. it could be a plushie or head cover or scarf or anything. Would help if you have separate towel for your face ( small one will do, wash them daily and dry them ) Basically it happens because dirty stuff comes into contact with your face and doesnt get cleaned quickly enough. On another note, i dont think u need to do anything to your room aside than make up that bed of yours. tidy up! being an engineer is not an excuse for messy bedroom. Also if yours is caused by hormonal imbalance due to periods n stuff, consult with doctor, because continual acne outbreak might end up scarring your facial complexion permanently when you grew older. dont take it lightly. Sorry if i sounded like an old crank, its because i am. I wish all the best for u :) Oh on side note : read the manga Re:Life, u might like it for non fiction, read outliers by malcolm gladwell, it would shed some light on success stories n stuff.

5:05 is called the Socratic Method. Socrates supposedly believed that most disagreements were differences of definition. So he approached every disagreement by asking a series of good-natured questions in order to prompt the speaker to nail down exactly what definition the speaker is using.

A radio host I like, Dennis Prager says something along the same lines, "I prefer clarity over agreement." When he gets a disagreeing called he uses the Socratic Method, often as you said it's a matter of misunderstanding and it is reconciled. And if not, at least everything has been further clarified for everyone else listening.

I liked the two horse analogy, the issue I often have is when to listen to the bad horse, danger in only listening to the good horse is that it can lead to being a workaholic and burnout, especially when most of your productive time is channeled into your job. I have a hard time with feeling guilty for spending some time unwinding with a game, thinking that I should be being productive. Finding balance is hard but really important.

I've been feeling very trapped recently. I'm taking Online College courses that I'm having a very hard time with. I don't have a working vehicle and I couldn't drive it if I wanted to. I'm stuck at my house all day feeling guilty about my horrid grades, everyday just waiting for freedom that never seems to come. I'd love to have money to buy things that I want and to rent an apartment or buy a small house, but I can't get a job because I can't drive to one. This video has inspired me to try harder in college, I'd been thinking about similar topics and it's nice to hear it from someone a bit more articulate. Any advice on early adult life?

What course is it? Personally, I would try to narrow my scope within whatever course to something that seems interesting. But also try summarizing the course's material as concise as possible also helps. Ask questions like: What is the importance of X to Y and how can I use this? What is the problem that X is trying to solve? In short, break it down and ask critical questions. But take only as much as you can carry. Learning is a gradual process. It took decades to accumulate knowledge that one is expected to learn in a year. Taking online courses without anything to ground me to the real world left me asking why am I even learning this. But I think this was a good thing to ask because it means that I would try to understand why someone would think this is important. How does it fit in the larger scheme of things? I think that knowledge ultimately was created to benefit the real world. Finding interconnection to what you are learning to real events and things. But most importantly, I cannot stress the importance of the basics. Take time and go back to where you are graded badly. Try to get feedback from graders. Feedback is of utmost importance. One of the most subtle but important error is failing to understand the question. Another is the failure to understand the problem. In short regarding grades: It is okay to fail, that just life. But negligence isn't. Reduce course material to as simple questions and answers as possible and note the important bits. Eventually, you will be able to deduce other points from those One doesn't build houses on a weak foundation so don't build up if you are unclear of requirements below. Move at your own pace. I hope this can help. Good luck

Someone wise told once: "Never try to be like someone else. Just be the best possible version of you." I often get the feeling that you're talking about and I totally agree with your ideas. I also think that it is good idea to try not to get overwhelmed with other people achievements by focusing on small things you can do instead of thinking about big stuff. Give yourself small, not too hard tasks and get it done. Don't try to jump on the top of the building. Use stairs and trust that they will bring you to the top even if you can't see it yet.

lol omg happy cat you're up so late! XP just starting the video but to answer the question right off the bat: Never think about how much better than you anyone is, there will always be someone better. the only person you need to beat is you, every day. And when you don't know something, whatever little thing you learn today will carry you on to learn a new thing tomorrow until you have snowballed an enormous amount of knowledge. the key is to stay focused and know that everything you've put in is adding up. At that point, it's only a matter of when. Never stop KNOWING you will get there.

But it's that moment of completion when my machines are running that I feel so awesome!! I can holeheartedly agree... if you have a thing that you do that gives you some kind of structure and it pays the bills or its education then do that, stay safe and do not think you need more money right now, just make your mind up and take your time! I am not talking several months, really take your time!!! I am talking years and you will see, if you progress in the stuff that brings you further like education or stuff that opens up your options, you will be all the more thankfull and find peace!!! You start to build your life at 17, before you kinda tried to keep stuff together, but if you reach that age you gain more opportunities to build up that emotional security. PS.: You do not allways need to be doing the stuff you wanna do to progress, keep calm!!!

It's sort of the difference between immediate and delayed gratification - It's really compelling to do things that pay off quickly because it's so easy to imagine and predict and understand, but generally the most important and defining things in life go on for years at a time. It's a larger abstraction or difference from the day-to-day to think about or label big ideas, which means those big ideas are naturally more difficult to plan or believe in. So all the equations for maximizing happiness are time sensitive. If it's all about having maximum happiness for the next 12 hours, then it's heroin, that's the shortcut. But if it's all about maximum happiness over the next 80 or so years, you want healthy dopamine receptors, and a patient motivation to learn about this beautiful universe and all the awesome people in it. I could go on about this forever.. Btw love the video happiecat, first thing in a while that's made me go "AH! There are others!"

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain." --------------------------------------- You're a very wise woman and I have a deep respect for you, it is true also, that we only make two kind of choices (and we make choices on the present basis EVERY. SINGLE. SECOND.) There's choices made from LOVE and choices made from FEAR. That's it all. If you let fear prevail, you'll become miserable, no matter how many friends, money or family you have. If you make choices from love, you will become happy even when everybody thinks you're doing the wrong thing, even when the law enforcement is prosecuting you, and even when you have nowhere to sleep nor anything to eat, nor a friend to talk to. Strenght is the ability to go beyond Fear and Pain. You're Strong Happie Cat Please keep being awesome! Best wishes from Spain :-D

Great video like always, I just found your videos a weeks ago and all of them are awesome. Is great to know the "human side" of a game/software dev and learn a lot of useful things in the same channel :)

i've felt like this with my lastest job. i underwent a really hard recruitment process (programming c, assembly) , nevertheless i made it through and i am really loving every second of it, regardless of the bumps on the road. from time to time tho i can't help but to feel i am a bit lacking when it comes to the use of certain tools and technologies that are being used and when i feel i need to ask for help its when i feel what you just described. i can also affirm that "bake it til you make" it is the solution for this. there will always be problems and things we will find difficult or stuff that we don't grasp and the only thing we can to do is just to go with it, learn from the experience, keep asking questions and pushing yourself harder. if its something you enjoy, it will feel like a time investment and you will grow professionally and as a person. thanks for the great clip!

TLDR: Cool vid Every time I watch one of your videos, I always find something interesting to think about. Hopefully this doesn't sound too weird, but there was such a variety of topics in your video that I actually felt the need to take notes so I could see your thoughts as a whole (which is a good thing, there is a lot to discuss in life after all). One of the thoughts I found really enjoyable was "words are just empty vessels". I think this is an important concept people should take time to think about. People can all learn a language, but the associations and meanings they connect with each word can vary for each person. I like how you go through the trouble of describing all your ideas in detail so I can understand exactly what you're trying to convey. I also thought your comment on "the good horse and the bad horse" was a good thought. I heard something similar about peoples' souls being like two wolves, one good and one bad, constantly fighting, you can choose to feed one or the other, and the one you feed more will ultimately prevail. You can feed them by doing things that the wolves would have you do (for example the good wolf may have you be kind to someone, while the bad wolf might have you steal). But in any case, I think the analogy is very applicable to many of our lives. I find it to be a useful tool to remind myself to be try to do the right thing as often as possible. I think I like the analogy with the horses slightly better though, considering the connection you made to gravity and our natural tendency to do what is easiest for us. So now that I've wasted the time of whoever chose to read this, let me just say to the creator of this video specifically that I really like these personal videos. The way you don't try to cover up anything makes me feel like I'm listening to someone in person (maybe that's why I felt the need to write this monstrous comment as a response haha). If I could make one recommendation, which you by no means should feel obligated to follow, I don't necessarily like all the camera cuts. It kind of ruins the personal feel these videos have. One moment I feel as though I'm sitting in your room talking about life, and then a camera cut brings me back to realize I'm starring at a screen. I will definitely check out both of your recommendations, I happen to watch a lot of anime and read a quite a bit so they are coincidently right in my area of interest. To whoever just read this: again, sorry for wasting your time haha.

Don't worry about the fear over us 50,000+ watchers starting these videos and finding faults. Wait till you hit 200,000 subs (I know that if you continue with the awesome vids that will definitely happen!) then return to this video. You'll wish you never showed yourself this way, but in truth it's you that makes us watch more. You are interesting, funny, insightful, and just allround show yourself to be doing the most important thing: having fun whilst making your videos. Keep being awesome, I will look forward to more interesting content!

Watched two videos of yours and subscribed! I saw your game engine video, and then this one through your channel. I like the idea of learning to live with discomfort, being out in the middle of the ocean... this is a really excellent way to describe the feeling. I struggle with exactly what you describe in the title of this video, to see way ahead to something I don't know is incredibly self-defeating... "I'll never get there, why bother...." Also, I've had facial problems for 25 years... I finally found some relief in the information found at acne org. I hope this opinion is ok to post...I don't get any kickback from mentioning it, just something that really helped me!

Due to misinformation of the fields when I graduted High School I went to college and started a major in Computer Engineering (CPEN). After 2 years I finally realize what I was truly passionate about was Computer Science (CS), I decided I would finish my current CPEN degree and try to learn as much as I could about CS independently, since at the very least I did enjoy Electronics which forms part of my degree. I really want to make video games and when I first tried to start learning on my own, I felt helpless I felt like there was just too much knowledge I was missing and that the world of Game Development was just too much for me. I didn't lose hope though I kept looking for more information, more sources for me to learn from. I am now on my third year of college and thanks to a variety of channels including yours, I've slowly started gaining knowledge and confidence and I am very certain that soon enough I will have made my very own video game even if simple. So I just thought I'd thank you for that. Thank You.

Awwhh dude, Just found you & your channel! Really cool :) I think people forget that things aren't completed in 1 day, we always see the end result and not the struggle that created it. I work in DevOps, so i basically monitor a process and try and automate it via scripts; thing is you don't always know how on earth you'll get to the end result, you just know a you want to get there. Its all about trial and error. The important thing is juts to believe in yourself, and never put yourself down. On the spiritual side of things I'm a strong believer that we create reality with out minds; " I think there for I am" . So just think happy things and happy things will happen. And remember people's everyone has doubts, we just don't always see them ;) Love your channel though

I will soon apply for my first job and for many years, going into any new environment, I always had the mindset "I have to prove myself. This is so hard! And the others probably figured out how to do this", especially when I entered university. The imposter syndrome was influencing me a lot. Reading job offerings was rather frightening. "Oh, they want someone who is awesome at both C++ and C# and know HTML and CSS. ...and these 10 other programs I've never heard of". It frustrated me to read these but now I understand that they set these standards at a level of "if anyone fulfills all of these things, get that person and glue it to our company!!" and maybe nobody fits it ever. I found the courage to tackle the first application this week, wish me luck. Over the last years I kind of trained myself to be more confident in my skills, but I still undervalue myself. For these applications you have to state what salary you are aiming for and my friends were just constantly saying "man, look at your grades. Go for X-k higher!" and I'm just frightened to put a too high number that may result in not getting the interview in the first place. I guess there's still a lot of room for improvements when it comes to my confidence. But if I can keep the image of a confident person during the interview, hopefully it'll all work out. I reached a point where I believe I can actually pull it off. But then, looking at my girlfriend, I'm very concerned. She still has two more years studying, but she is like the definition of imposter effect. Always aiming for 100% but even that isn't really enough. I somehow need to help her to appreciate herself. It's not easy. Her hard skills are there, just not the personality to carry them. Any suggestions how I could help her?

There will always be people, that posses better knowledge, looks, finances, you name it. Im going to become an mehatronic enginner, but might never become skilled as my uncle in machinery or my father in electricity. But that will not stop me from going my way. I will become an mehatronic and live my life as i want, no matter what comes. And TheHappieCat, your one skilled programmer, and will become better at your field of choice.

About the good and the bad horse, I think it is important not to ignore the bad horse, but to know when to tend to its needs. I find some of my most creative moments come while my mind is turned off. Who doesn't love small doses of reality TV? It lets your mind turn off for a while. I think that is important, as long as you limit it

Thanks for posting this. I've found that the people who are best at what they do usually think they know the least; that's what pushes us to continue learning and practicing. I'm a third year engineering student and I worry that I'll have no idea what I'm doing when I get my first job. I'm also a drummer, and I just got a job with a seasoned, professional band after their former drummer passed away. I don't know how, but I beat out three other experienced drummers. I don't know if I'm coming across clearly or not, but I'll wrap it now before I really start rambling.
