5 things your toolbox or garage needs right now are the things that people don't think about when putting together tools. It doesn't matter if you're working on a Harley Davidson motorcycle, or any other brand. The secret to making it easy are in the various lubricants, cleaners, and solvents that you use! The most skipped steps of a full on service are lubricating certain parts of your bike, and I'll show you what I use where I use it in this video!

As a highly trained unprofessional myself, I highly recommend Kano AeroKroil over PB Blaster for penetrating oil. I've used it for years and it works so much better for breaking down crud and corrosion than anything else I've tried. And it smells alot better than PB too. Love the channel, keep up the great work.

I happen to be a law enforcement officer I’ll get you the name of what we use on our Glock firearms so the slide on our firearm is smooth. I’m sure other gun owners have oils that they use. That get some 1000 I’m sure does the trick but not for $10.00 just for shipping I bought everything else on eBay. Keep those videos coming your a good guy!

I used to work on boats in Florida, and the best penetrant I found came from the local Chevrolet dealership. GM Rust Penetrant and Inhibitor (formerly Penetrant and Heat Valve Lubricant). Give it a try and you won't even consider PB again...

Rusty exhaust bolts- 50/50 acetone and automatic transmission fluid. Keep it wet, let it sit for awhile. I used this on the exhaust manifold bolts on a 25 yr old motorhome with a 8.3 Cummins, which had the original exhaust manifold. The rusted bolts came out like they were new, didn’t even squeak. How long you wait after application depends of course on how rusty the bolts are, be patient.

S100 is amazing s###! Gets dirt in nooks and crannies (I don’t actually know what a crannie is) as well as just being an incredible (German engineered, go figure) all purpose dirt, bug, tar bike wash/cleaner. I even use it on my truck floor mats to remove salt. Does a great job! Bonus: I’m lazy and it is super easy to use and washes off with the hose (do not wait - rinse with jet stream quickly)

John, look into Kroil products out of Tennessee. If you have rusted or frozen parts, you give a spray, wait a minute and they come right apart. Been using it on cars for about 30 years now and it is seriously worth the cost.

Hey John, I recently had my FXSTB in for service at my local shop & I wanted them to remove the baffles in the V&H Big Radius pipes...as expected, one came out real easy, the other one they couldnt get out....I took it home and soaked the inside with Liquid Wrench after watching a “best penetrating oil” comparison test by a You Tuber scientist...needless to say, i used a tire iron lug wrench from a 82 chevy luv pickup (the small lug end fit inside the baffle perfectly. Applied pressure while the pipe was wrapped in a towel and resting in my shop vice. After 10 minutes of hitting the lug wrench with a mini masonry sledge hammer, the baffle was free. Big thumbs up to Liquid Wrench, the winner of the best penetrating oil test! $5.49 a can and a pint of sweat. Keep the vids coming, you rock! J Kiv Yankee from Pa

Five things I've found that actually work. To loosen rust or heat-bound parts short of an acetylene wrench, a product called 'Releasall rust solvent', made by Releasall-Target corp. It's not a lubricant, so has no lasting lubricating properties, but that's not its focus. Best stuff to break free parts that other penetrating lubes will not budge. Aero-Kroil. A penetrating oil and lube. Has some lubricating properties, better than WD40 and PB, but not as cheap. Unless of course, you use it a bit more sparingly. Tri-Flow makes a great cable lube. They make other lubes as well. Good stuff. Water. I have wet down rusted parts with water, which loosens the rust. Seems counter-intuitive, but it works. If all of these fail, it's time for drastic measures. To keep all this seizing from starting in the first place, but you've got to be careful not to use it in certain applications, like where no oil or lube is required for torque-spec, Bostic brand Never-Seez. I have the nickel based compound that I used for turbo fasteners. They make all kinds of atom-age wonder-paste. Just need to be sure the one you're using doesn't cause some kind of reaction. That whole dissimilar metals bit. Oh, and cheap nail polish makes a handy small-parts threadlock. Cheap and effective. Plus, you can color match. Or not...

Tri-Flow is awesome! I've been using it for decades on bicycle cables, doorknobs, nuts, bolts and just about anything that moves. It is NOT WD-40 which is a solvent more than a lubricant (great for deicing, removing labels, grease, etc.) and it is THE BEST LUBRICANT I've found for clutch cables, throttle cables. Spray it on your pliers and socket wrenches, ratchet wrenches and any joints where metal touches metal. I even spray it in my key ignition switches in my Harley, F150 and Accord. One can will last for years while using it about a hundred times a year. It never dries but it is clean and does not leave residue. Only use a little bit because it goes a long way. Great videos, by the way! I like your dry sense of humor.

The car dealer I work for has been using a brand called Interflon for a couple years now with the normal stuff like PB blaster and 3m stuff. Interflon has a spray can grease that's similar to Lithium and works great. But their Super Fin spray is awesome. On bearings and hinges it lubes them up and gets into the small cracks. Thanks, John, the reaction to the can hitting the floor made me laugh harder than I have all week. Enjoyed the video while I was drinking my dinner, now I have tools at work, at home, in my truck and in another state. I live in Virginia and vacation 4.5 weeks a year in Florida, that's also where my bike is so I have tool boxes to be able to service my bike. My friend built the garage to keep his two Harleys in and I said it looked like he had room for another. So I bought my bike and we have built quite the Harley shop. I supplied the tools and he bought the air compressor and bike lift, my first trip of the year is in a few weeks; My son and I attend 98Rockfest VIP because if your gonna go you might as well go first class. You probably don't know many people that travel 1700 miles round trip to attend a concert, I'm Tracey, and that's how I roll. While this isn't my first bike it is my first Harley, I got some pics on my YT page. We are actually in the same line of work, I just work on big trucks although if I could make the same money I wouldn't mind working on bikes. I have worked on my own and a few others but not at a dealership or bike shop level. They would actually be hard pressed to find room for my tool boxes, again pics on my YT page.

F11 topcoat works really well for me as a cleaner/polish... it is a bit pricey though

I use S100 Total Cycle Cleaner it's $14.95 at the dealership (here anyways). I have seen F11 but haven't tried it. Have you tried S100? If you have what stands out with F11?

I love F11. I’m honestly surprised you don’t like it. I mean, it’s price is sky high, but I’ve barely put a dent in my bottle, and the results are insane.

I'm a Harley tech (MMI Orlando '01-'02). Thanks for the tip on INOX. I've been using metal straws on Triflow cans for cables, etc. Messy. I think the plastic bottle with the metal straw will work better. I ordered from eBay. Better price than Amazon. I'm enjoying your videos. I retired from the Army from Fort Benning before going to MMI. I lived in Columbus for about 12 years (yep, lots of years at Fort Benning). I live in Kennesaw, GA now and work for myself. I have for the past 10 years now - work on Harleys. Later...

I've worked at 3 different Harley dealerships as a tech and, in my opinion, most Harley techs are arrogant dicks. Refreshing to see a tech that appears to be a nice guy and willing to share info. Rare. Best of luck to you in your career.

In addition to PB Blaster (which is good stuff, no worries), try KROIL as a penetrating lubricant. An aviation mechanic turn me on to it. It's incredibly effective at breaking free rusted, corroded fitting.

Sea Foam penetrate works just as good as PB Blaster, and doesn't smell as nasty. As far as shining the bike up, I like Harley's Poly Glaze. Definitely puts a shine on stuff! Till next week...

haha thank you, thank you. It'll work great on the denim black! And with the powder coating, I would recommend using a scotch-brite pad to help the DOT 4. Powder coating is different from regular paint you know!
