@ I'll take male Hags over the politically correct genderless asexual succubuses of the new Dungeons and Dragons edition. Because making canon being demonic and transgender is connected, somehow a representation win for progressive Hasbro and WOTC. Similar to how VivziePop sees making demons in hell overwhelmingly LGBT, somehow a representation. Especially with every relationship in Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss is toxic and abusive.

"More powerful in X" shows up in a few creatures, usually making them memorable. 3e's Death Knights were okay, but the Dragonlance version, with extra spells for making PC days nasty and short, were one of my favorites.

@Mr_WelchКүн бұрын
If used correctly they're a decent monster. Just don't let them become too whiny. For whatever reason I've seen a lot of them played that way
@michaelwest4325Күн бұрын
A lot can be done with Hags at lower levels, I like to use the device from Rahasia and make them powerful only as a coven, and spin them more neutral or even lawful evil, making wicked deals that demand child sacrifices, etc., to test morality.

Creature types weren't really a thing in the early editions. I think they added them with 3rd edition I would have to look. Before that they were whatever you wanted them to be in your campaign

I know there is the issue of the great barrier so this plan would need help from some of the Immortals but could there be some way to banish/transport/dimension-door/etc. Black Annis to the Cathedral of the Silver Flame in Eberron so she would have to face the Loli-Pope?

The great continuity problem of having different powerful creatures with the same name in half the settings. I don't think getting two copies of black Annie in the same room is a good idea as the collateral damage as they tear themselves apart would be contained

You know, I'm aware 'male hags' is an unpopular concept for good reasons due to its lack of archetypal roots but I could actually see that working as a monster. If the classic female hag is everything noxious about the darker side of feminity (beauty lost, envy, witchcraft, manipulation) then it stand to reason their male counterpart would be everything foul and vile about the darker side of masculinity. Huge, boorish ogre-like fey with rapacious appetites and desires, some of the definitely-best-unmentioned variety. Violent but cunning bullies. I could see something a bit closer to an ogre mage being their male counterpart.
@Mr_WelchКүн бұрын
@@Skritz-mt9zb The ogre mage was the first thing I thought of when you just started describing it. Then it becomes the issue of what's the difference between those two?
@Skritz-mt9zbКүн бұрын
@@Mr_Welch Well, in any setting where ogre mages aren't a thing and where you don't want the cultural baggage of an Oni, I'd say it works. Obviously not within Mystaran context, but hey. Its just an idea.

@Skritz-mt9zb there are a lot of monsters that appear in the rule books that are in the known world but only on the wandering monster chart. That's how came up with this video was when I found that there's hags in several of the nations but they don't actually appear in any of the adventures. And the background given in the rule books is a single paragraph. We have firbolg on the southern continent but they're only mentioned once with no context. Even stranger it's mentioned in a becmi book and those only appear in first edition at the time.
