I’d happily sign a petition to get you to at least be a consultant on these games even though I doubt that’s how Sony hires. I was honestly expecting either the dialogue or the bag model to be changed but hey I guess it’s only a small detail. I’m really looking forward to the rest of your coverage from the remake especially on the implications of Josh’s new ending!

Thanks! What's really interesting is the difference in camerawork in the OG vs Remake - after Matt puts the bags down in the OG, there are 7 different shots that clearly show the 2 bags together, then midway through the fight we get a shot of the luggage and suddenly there's just 1 bag. They're letting you know the bags are important based on how much they're showing them off. By comparison, in the remake, after Matt puts the bag down, there's a single shot in which the two bags are visible - clearly the devs didn't think that the bags were important at all. It's also nice that you can tell in the first Matt/Emily scene she isn't paying attention to him at all, so it's totally believable that she could not notice that he had both bags with him when they left the cable car station.

Though I'm curious, what makes you think the new bags in the car from remake are meant to be the infamous bag they're looking for? That's what you assumed from the get go but for all we know it might be an addition to give us more infos on Emily's playful personality (and it connects with the "lacy undies" she mentions later, those bags are probably to emphasize her playful personality), plus the fact it's 2 bags makes it clear that they're different stuff. I don't think the devs are that clueles, though we still can agree that it doesn't make sense to travel this much distance with shopping bags. For the Josh bit I just think it's a mistake from the devs, there's no way he went from the fireplace to picking up the bag in that short amount of time in front of everyone without being visible by the player nor any characters, keep in mind there's a chair behind Emily 6:17. The fact he literally reappears out of nowhere when he asks them to stop makes this even more blatant. BUT it does not by any means discredit Joshs moving the bags, the camera shots of the bags are quite sussy and the devs wouldn't have made it disappear if it wasn't important. I don't know it seems like theories to me at this point.

The reason I associated the car bags with the missing bag is twofold - 1: If they went to the trouble of adding a car and props it would likely be for a concrete reason, since this is the only change to the map I've seen in the game. Answering what happened to a missing bag is an issue worth assigning resources to address - establishing Emily as being interested in bondage seems less pressing when it comes to resource allocation. 2: Take all of the words associated with the bag: Small - Pink - Pattern - Purchased in Los Angeles - Bag - Lacy underwear. Show that word cloud to any designer, and you wouldn't be surprised if what they tried to hit all of them at once - and a pink bag with a pattern on it from an LA sex shop would certainly tick all of those items off, even if the designer came to the wrong conclusion in doing so. You could be right, and they meant a different bag, but then we've gone from the original's 2 bags, one of which goes missing, to the remake's '5 bags, 1 of which goes missing, 2 of which are never mentioned by the characters whose bags they are'. Of course Josh could have gotten the bag in that time - the fight starts, and there are 25 seconds before the bag disappears, and then another 20 seconds before Josh reappears - it's not a big room, that's plenty of time to walk over, grab the bag, drop it behind some furniture, and get back to the fireplace. He didn't have to do it unseen by anyone, because people were watching the fight - who would have noticed/paid attention to him walking around? In the original, the camera angles are very careful to keep track of the bags - showing them 7 times before one of them disappears during the fight. It's not really a theory - the bag is there before the fight, then it disappears during the fight, then Emily and Matt go looking for it. What else could have happened to it other than Josh swiping it?

@@HOGuru They did bring other changes to some areas, I remember one with a swing and a baby doll to interact with (presumably Hannah's). Also just remembered the one area near the radio tower. There's another detail I feel like you missed: we know that Matt and Emily slept alot in Matt's car, those 2 bags are there to highlight the playful Emily we don't see alot during the game. To me the car is mostly there because it's an important component in their relationship and so clearly separated from the missing bag. So it makes sense to include it while also showing how they got here. Maybe the shopping bags were an afterthought before leaving L.A. who knows. For Josh I'm with you on this one, I'm not saying he didn't do it, I'm just saying it's a mistake from the devs, he literally just reappears out of nowhere eventhough he's supposed to get the fire going. "who would have noticed/paid attention to him walking around?" literally Sam, Ashley and Chris in the background who were far away from the drama.

@@Inblader Would they have noticed him? There's a cat fight about to start, all eyes are going to be on that, not Josh walking around the entrance hall. That's how misdirection works. How can Josh have taken the bag, and also his disappearance from the background be a mistake? The bag was there, then one minute later it wasn't there - when did he take it if not during the argument, while he's missing from the fireplace? I'm not super-clear on what you mean about the car, though... are you saying that the whole parking area was added to let the audience know that Matt and Emily have sex in cars a lot? That seems like a completely irrelevant point for them to go to so much trouble to... confirm? It's not like there's a bunch of unanswered question about Matt and Emily's relationship like there are about the missing bag.

@@HOGuru There are lots of shortcuts the game takes to get where it wants to be storywise, how can you make the bag disappear by Josh without it being too noticeable? you do it off screen and hope the player don't pay attention, but like you showed the bags are quite easy to spot since the game focuses on them. I have no doubt the whole idea behind it is Josh doing it, my issue is just the execution being flawed. How did Emily survived the fall from the radio tower and got conveniently tied to a rope? That's the kind of shortcut I was talking about. Emily and Matt mention the car in their playable segment, I thought the interaction with the car in the parking was a reminder of that dialogue, we also see one of the handcuff out (probably used already). Most of the new contents are not supposed to be THAT meaningful (the one i mentioned in my previous reply). Plus the devs know that the players know the bag was carried by Matt on the very first seconds we see him. It's either incompetence from the devs (and i mean not just the pink bags but also Josh scene) or a callback to something different (lacy underwear, sex in the car etc...).

I’ve recently seen on Reddit that someone posted about a glitch that occurred in one of their playthroughs that broke the Matt segment where he and Emily go to look for the bag. They were able to look around the area without the cutscene of the pig head triggering that ends the segment(or maybe the cutscene broke). They found an interactable item buried in snow. What was it? EMILY’S BAG! It had underwear in it too! The bag was torn. It was like a beige color and I think there was a bit of pink on it but I didn’t see much of it. There is a pattern there but only one bit of pink. There’s also blue and red on the bag. Of course this obviously wasn’t meant to be seen and I doubt it really means anything. But one final note is that the bag is different from the bag Matt places down in the lodge(I always assumed the smaller bag was Matt’s and the suitcase was Emily’s) So the question is was this bag in the original or is it something new to the remake that they scrapped but kept in the game?

Actually that black bag wasn’t removed in the original. It was always there. You just could never see it because of the angles and darkness but there was an angle where you could see it behind the other baggage. So this confirms the bag wasn’t the black one and instead it was the pink one for the remake.

In the original there's shots that the bag should be in that it's not - now, it was originally supposed to be there, so it's just a question of whether this was a story fix, or just a case of someone making a mistake while putting the shots together. I can confirm the bag in the car is not the one being discussed, but that can wait for an upcoming video :)

Yeah I remember finding those bags in the car in the remaster and being unsure what they were about. My first thought was obviously Emily’s missing bag, but since these are clearly just throw-away store bags it just confused me

The only thing I've always been confused about is why emily wasn't pranked as bad as Chris, Ashley and Sam? especially when emily, Jessica and mike were more involved when it came to pranking Hannah the year prior... the only conclusion I came up with was maybe josh was going to try and pick them off one group at a time but he didn't have time due to what else happens in the game? Or maybe he knew emily was very intelligent and he needed her out of the way so she couldn't outsmart him? And maybe he didn't prank mike and Jess bc he could've been scared of mike bc hes popular and tough af? Idk.

The only targets of his revenge are Chris and Sam - Ashley is just used to get at Chris. My guess is that he blames Sam for not stopping the prank when she knew about it and could have, and here's a whole video about why he tortures Chris - kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWLMdamMmblqrNE As we can see from his work shoppe, there were no plans for anyone else.

Honestly, this detail could easily be assumed as a mistake and that’s what likely happened during the development of the remake. Funny that most of the remake team are supposed to be original members of the original Until Dawn. Does your theory make sense? Sure but it’s just a theory. There’s no concrete evidence and it’s up to interpretation. Was it necessary to clarify this detail? Not really, it’s just a macguffin to move the story forward. They didn’t need to explain what “actually” happened to the bag

I think the one thing I would say is that I don't think this would be accidental. It's not like a movie set where someone could've just forgotten to put the bag down for another take - I think someone would have had to have chosen to have the bag disappear from the scene. Might be wrong but that's how I understand games.

Agreed, plus the whole narrative of Josh taking the bag fits way too well for the missing bag model to just be a coincidence.

Frankly, I didn't think this plot point needed explaining until I played the remake - I'd assumed up until that point that it was perfectly obvious what happened. Josh needs them gone, and then a bag disappears after Matt brought it in.

Also I like how they went out of their way to add the little area just to make it make more sense, but they couldn't fix the scene where joshes gloves just disappear right before he revels himself?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So weird! But they seem to have been tweaking the old models, not making new ones, so I guess the error was grandfathered in?
