I saw him live in Majorica for my 18th Birthday back when he DJ'd and that night was such a wonderful experience. Thank you, Boy George!! You brought homosexuality into the world of normality. My great-grandmother LOVED Boy George! I moved to London for a music industry job in 1986, & she asked me if I could get his autograph for her. I couldn’t, so my boss signed an 8x10 glossy of him, & I sent it to her. No harm. No foul. Just a little white lie to make an old lady happy. I play Culture Club vids and just get teary-eyed with nostalgia. And Boy George--his make-up then was so perfect. So ahead of its time. He expressed himself and challenged expectations and norms. His voice is uniquely him. You hear it and immediately know who it is. Interesting conversation. He always mentions Madonna in his interviews! I've always thought that fundamentally they're quite similar people.. They're both complex personalities who came from large, Catholic families, both wanted public adoration and then created it for themselves on a large scale only to discover that fame can never fill that internal void.
