The Ansel Adams Wilderness in the Inyo National Forest contains some of the most beautiful scenery in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Recently, I went on a three-day backpacking trip in the Wilderness with Mike “Marmalade” Lawrence.
This video chronicles my journey with views of crystal lakes, snow-covered mountain spires, meandering rivers, cascading waterfalls and various native wildlife.
Thanks for watching. Please leave a QUESTION or COMMENT and don’t forget to LIKE, SHARE, and SUBSCRIBE and click the NOTIFICATION button to be alerted each time I upload a new video. Again...thanks for watching.

Rev, I agree....1000 island lake MAYBE best place in the Sierras..........but there's many others too. Evolution, Bear Lakes, Rae Lakes, Miter Basin, Palisade Lakes, Bighorn Plateau, Yosemite Valley, Tehepite Valley, Dusy Basin, Ionian Basin, Goddard Canyon, Mineral King, what can I say....the Sierras are truly the Power of God made manifest and benign for us......especially in summer and fall.

Hiked from Red's Meadow to Yosemite Valley via JMT and agree THAT is some AWESOME trail. Highly recommend that section IF you can get a permit. Unfortunately, we were under the remnants of hurricane Hillary for the section from Garnet Lake to just before Donohue Pass. Made for great photos but limited viewing of the Sierras for those two days.

Backpacked this spectacular area in the early 80’s. However, no music needed. I much prefer to hear nature’s sound. The music, though beautiful, was distracting and a bit irritating as I wanted to hear the wind, water and birds. Fascinated by your tiny backpacks. Hey Max from the Netherlands! I met some hikers from the Netherlands on my recent trip in the Sierra Nevada’s. You’ll have to come to the US and hike.

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I'm in the early stages of planning a first trip to the Sierras. I've been leaning towards doing the Ansel Adams Wilderness and your video is further confirmation that this is the place to go. I'm surprised how much snow is out there. The date on your video says July, is that when you went?

Thanks. Actually, it was June 18 - 20. It was absolutely breathtaking. I would highly recommend it.

I was looking at a hike from Mammoth through Donohue Pass down to Tuolumne. This may have talked me out of it. Have a few questions. Where did you park? At the trailhead? I'm looking at my map following what I think was your route. Ok. Now, the video. Fantastic. I love Yosemite. This video had some of the BEST views EVER. Thank you.

I hope you enjoyed it. I parked my car at the parking lot where you pick up the shuttle to go to Reds Meadows. There were cars parked at the trailhead (Reds Meadow). Good luck on your hike!

Rev, great video and I'm looking forward to your 21-day adventure posting soon. Questions: How do you get to this trailhead? Where did you catch the trolley/shuttle? Is there a sign/post that shows the way (turn off) to Ediza Lake? How well are the two trails marked? This looks like a great weekend loop. Walk on, Brother.

Hey Bill. Great questions. I went to Mammoth and stayed at a motel room. The next day I caught the shuttle bus from Mammoth at the Adventure Center near Mammoth Mountain's Main Lodge to Agnew Meadows trail head. I believe the cost of the shuttle was $15 round-trip. I used Gia GPS app to follow the trail. Plus the trail is fairly well marked.

Of all the PCT, the Sierra is the part that I am most interested in hiking. I can't forsee when I would be able to do the entire PCT but one day I want to section hike the Sierra, maybe in conjuction with the High Sierra Trail and Tahoe Rim Trail

Hey, from New Zealand. Nice to see you fully recovered and back on trail again. May one ask how old you are now? I am 85 this year and still getting my share of mini adventures both on foot and on bike; a great beliver of "use it or loose it"

What a gorgeous area! Simply stunning. Do you have any suggestions for hiking - and specifically sleeping - with pain? I have cancer and my meds give me joint pain. I'm fine while I'm moving but when I stop and sleep on a camp pad (and I have one of the best, the Nemo Tensor), I sleep around 2 hours a night because of pain, even after taking Advil. Any suggestions? Any ideas for inflatable bolster pillows for side sleeping? I've never seen one for hiking. Thanks for the lovely videos, I'm enjoying them.

Thank you. You’re very kind. I use the Nemo pillow for sleeping. It seems to work out fine for me. As far as sleeping with pain I toss and turn almost all night when I’m in my tent but not from pain. I am learning to adapt for my health while out on the trail. I’m not able to do what I used to do. Very frustrating.

Wow 🤩 spectacular scenery! Hope the skeeters didn’t bother you the entire time? I see you carried bear canisters- did you see any bears! Was that a coyote or deer- ? Nice you have a Marmalade to hike with. I’m going to check out his channel.! Happy 4th July weekend 🎊

Thanks. We didn’t see a bear but bear cans are required in the Sierra. I thought that was a wolf but it may have been a coyote.

Love your videos. Do or did you carry both an airbed AND/OR a foambed for sleeping in your tent or just the foambed? I am confused as to what to carry for thru hike. Do most thru hikers carry both or just one over the other?

I am enjoying your videos! I am considering an Appalachian Trail thru hike attempt. And am wondering where it is best to purchase the gear (all I have is an osprey aether 60 pack and mini mo jet boil cooking system that were gifts). Do you go to REI for everything or the individual companies (ie Z packs) or somewhere else or a combination of all of the above? Maybe you answer these questions in one of your videos? I am 73 and run about 4 times/week for about 17 miles total. The only hiking I have done in the last 30 years was a 1 day up and back, to the trailhead, to Mt. Whitney about 9 years ago.
@TheHikingRev

Hey Mike. I ordered most of my stuff from “cottage companies.” The bad thing about ordering from “cottage companies” is you can’t “try before you buy.” REI has a tremendous return policy though. Check out my gear video playlist for ideas.

WOW!! Beautiful!! On my bucket list. This got me so excited to start planning a trip there. I do have a few questions if you have a free minute. Is there a town close to where the trail head is? You mentioned taking a bus from where? And because I solo hike I wondered about day hikes though I would love to do what you guys did. Have you ever thought about leading a group you would be great at it. Blessings!
