Speaking of fictional detectives, can I nominate the Shadow for consideration? He began with the Street and Smith pulp magazines and went on to radio. One of the most successful.actors to play the character was Orson Welles who would arrive at the studio and played the script as written. The character lasted for decades.

"bloodhounds may lick you to death" I love that. The same can be applied to Basset Hounds, which is why they're not the most amazing guard dogs..at least that's what my mom told me about her hounds. Completely irrelevant here, but a Bloodhound won best in show at last year's Westminster show.

I love your video, I'm a big fan . As a Sicilian who's lived in Palermo I know about Petrosino who's a legend to Sicilians. Today especially he's a bigger legend because the hated mafia has been driven underground, many store owners now the "no pizzo" sign, pizzo is the word used for the "protection racket'. Unfortunately you were wrong about the locations where he was murdered. Caltanissetta is too far from Palermo to matter. He was actually murdered at Marina plaza in Palermo

I love Vidoq! Did some reading about him. I believe he used fingerprinting in his work, ballistics and intelligence activities. He was a master at disguising himself. Police have him to thank for some of their “practices”. A man ahead of his time! He started the Surete. There is a “Vidocq Society” with 81 members- no more as that his age when he died. It is a group made up those involved in criminology. They look at “cold cases”. One of great interest is “ The boy in the box”. He was finally oidentified as Joseph Augustus Zarelli. It is unknown who murdered this dear little boy.👼🏻💕

@ 19:40 approx: I could be wrong, but the US Constitution's 18th Amendment (bolstered by the Volstead Act which provided the enforcement of/for the 18th Amendment) banned the sale, manufacture and transportation of alcohol but NOT the individual's CONSUMPTION of alcohol. My Great Grandfather, I was told, left Italy just ahead of being arrested for smuggling... I was never told smuggling what... he ended up in NYC around the early 1900's... considering his Italian activities he may have become a "Black Hand" member... it makes sense because at least one of his sons became one of the Mobs most notorious Hit Men... he was the first member of Murder Inc. to be arrested, convicted, and executed at Sing Sing in 1942... 8 years before I was born... very long story short... My Great Grandmother went to live with family in the Boston area, so my side of the family and I, never mixed with the "connected" side.... you can find him in the history books under "The Dasher"... not saying some of my close relatives weren't a bit on the "shady" side... LOL... I never asked, didn't want to know, but there was one guy I met, that when I mentioned my uncles name, he turned sheet white and I never saw him a gain.

I am sceptical about the accuracy of police investigations before the advent of modern science - and even then. How do we know that the people who confessed didn't do it after hours of grilling?

The inclination on the part of blood hounds to greet their subjects with licking is not to be taken lightly. Like all dogs with really superior scent ability blood hounds are known to be extremely slobbery. Most people will be able to deal with this but non swimmers and those inclined to panic in water should use caution.

What was his name in Italian parsley I'm pretty sure anyway we got to give credit to the so-called bad Irish cop does he realize that he needed an Italian to be able to infiltrate the criminal Italian groups that had been wreaking havoc and spreading influence throughout New York City that little guy had some balls five foot two Italian Stallion and he had a mission to clean up what he thought was bad people who were representing his country he realize that they weren't just victimizing other nationalities they were going after everyone he must have been a great organizer and like you said he remembered faces and names which is a great attribute to have as a cop and unfortunately it was a day that cops could pretty much do anything they wanted to and get by with it they just weren't organized to be criminals at that time so most of their work went into apprehending criminals because there were plenty of them so at the time the lower echelons of the police force had no time for criminal activity however we know that the upper echelons were up to no good and criminal activities back to Petrucelli and his gang of thugs they went wherever they wanted to and of course they made mistakes sometimes and it got covered up because at that time they could there were no videos and if there were Witnesses wanted to say something different they got taught a lesson and sometimes that was a dirt nap leaded enticement to shuffle off the Mortal coil and it was actually accepted by the General Public because they were most affected by The Gangs of New York we've come a long way from that and we've had setbacks yet today we're dealing with police that believe that they can treat the general population as if they were a gang member of 1901 New York City juxtaposed to the Supreme Court Justices being serenaded by multi-billionaires and corporations with impunity and the only way to get to the nitty-gritty as I'd like to say is to spend millions of dollars and wasted Congressional time eating a bunch of bulshit hearings that will ultimately come up with some b******* line that supposedly the public can get behind and we can parenthetically move forward😢 and if the truth be known the people that really care have no time to do anything about it because they're having to work their asses off in order to try and live the American dream which they never get to do because there are so many little things that they have to deal with everyday like are their children going to be shot in school today are the cops going to pull me over and abused my rights or even shoot me for no reason are the cops going to raid my home in mistake for the house next door and shoot me because I had my cell phone in my hand of course they thought it was a gun and they don't just shoot once or twice they mag dump which means they don't stop until the gun is empty even after the suspect is on the ground no more threat maybe the gun could go off by itself excuse me I meant the phone might go off by itself meanwhile in d.c. they're making laws that you don't even know about because you're busy dealing with this s*** that's America today baby last thing on my mind is even if they have to roll President Biden into the 2024 inauguration on a gurney I would rather him be president then any Republican on the face of this Earth even if he or she pretends to be a Democrat that doesn't mean that if there is a another Democrat out there willing to take on the responsibilities and able to win the primaries then more power to them perhaps then Biden would actually step out of the way and back the new presidential candidate for the Democratic Party otherwise I'm looking at independent prospects ciao for now sorry I bent your ear I just hope you could hear it
