Fire for blood and blood for fire is probably referring to a sacrifice of someone who is loved by the person sacrificing them. For example when Azar Ahai kills his wife to create lightbringer and Dany sacrifices Khal Drogo to get her dragons.

GRRM has hinted that there is a "connection" in the ancient past between dragons and Valyrians. As we mentioned in our Comet video, there is a 2nd case of a dragon-baby we've discovered through GRRM reading at Conventions. We'll be addressing that soon, probably when we do a video on dragons.

I've always thought of the "dragon horn" technology to be the tools used to originally tame the wide dragons of Essos. It was only after the initial taming that the Valyrians were able to acquire dragon eggs, which allowed them to raise dragons from birth, there in taming the dragons without need for magical intervention.

I actually hadn't noticed that, good catch. I like the way he's constructed, as a character, by GRRM. A dumb brute who is skilled at war, but he is not lacking in depth. His psychology is quite well developed... the nicknames, the lack of respect for non-warriors/priests, the deep superstitions, the mistrust of humor. I find him quite compelling despite how terrible a person he is.

I assumed that the effect the horn had of making Victarion want to blow it was down to some sort of enchantment to calm the poor SOB chosen for the task. If it has always killed those blowing it you need some pretty good compulsion to get people to blow, especially if they just saw another dude do it and die. If it has some sort of magic built in that makes people want to blow it even knowing it will kill them that would be useful.

Horn of winter being 8ft could have been made from a mammoth type situation. Can't remember any details to such but I'd think they would far exceed 8. Not technically a horn but a tusk... Then again we aren't talking earth and ivory, here. Just a thought.

We've been wondering for a while how bad the cold will get. Will it be enough to freeze larger bodies of water? If so, quite a few possibilities open up. I definitely think there's a connection between the Others and control over the weather, and GRRM has said the weird seasons are magical in nature.

I know this is a pretty old video but I think DragonBinder is one of a kind and actually belonged to the “High King” of Valyria. We know the Targaryens were a lesser house in Valyria and they had dragons of their own. So we can assume the more prominent houses had dragons as well. So what was keeping all these other houses with their dragons from overthrowing the central government? Dragonbinder. The dragon horn may have been used to assure that if any dragons or dragon lords rebelled, the leadership of Valyria could regain control of every dragons.

am I the only one who thinks that the Dragonlords used Dragonhorns to hog all the dragons for themselves? this also goes with the theory that the dragons choose their rider, not the other way around. imagine you are the son of a valyrian dragonlord, your dad dies and his 400 year old dragon doesn't bond with you, so it leaves to find a worthy rider, congratulations you just lost your strongest dragon, you're screwed. so to prevent this, dragonhorns were made to keep family dragons in the family.

I think you should consider that maybe the horn isn't meant to bind dragons. Maybe it's meant to bind people. Slaves in particular. Valyria had a history of slavery. Maybe the Mages there made the horn to control people. Or the undead.

Just as a side note, rearing again GRRM's excerpt reminded me why I hate Victarion so much (in a good way, like hating Joffrey). He objectifies everyone Who's not a warrior. With him is "dusky woman", "bastard's bastard", "red priest". No names, just descriptors. But, then again, most of the ironborn are like that. Hopefully they'll all die :-)
